A comedy with a serious topic

"While the premise of this movie is somewhat stretched, it does tell a compelling story with a controversial topic. It was told in a warm, fuzzy, at times funny way. The structure is somewhat loose and the conversation could be better written, but a solid movie nevertheless."

over the top but not mean

"The portrayal of the evangelicals is over the top but not mean. The male couple are very well portrayed by David Moscow and Orlando Jones. (Jones' character is a choreographer; when it comes to the dance performance, close your eyes. But keep your ears open throughout: the composer Michael Levine did a great job with the music, which includes traditional shape note singing plus some shape note composition of his own.)"

good low budget indie

"Misconceptions is a well acted, socially relevant good natured yarn. It has a Preston Sturges-type of plot and mixes humor , affection and pathos. The audience "got it" and laughed out loud at the humor. The actors resonated with each other like an ensemble. In classic sit-com style one could envision sequels. We need more honest low-budget films like this. Catch it during its limited release (I think it plays for one week in just a few major cities)."

I laughed, I cried...

"Actually, I mostly just laughed. An appealing cast in a warm, funny, easy-going movie about a Bible-belt wife who believes she has been called by God to bear a child for a gaycouple in Boston. I know what you're thinking, but it pulls it off, and manages to be knowing and clever without condescending to any of the characters. A date movie for people who are already married."
