It's been many years since I've seen an enjoyable comic book film that combined great acting, great dialogue, and great action without sacrificing character development ("The Dark Knight"). For the first time in nearly four years, "The Avengers" makes the grade. Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, and especially Robert Downey Jr. had great chemistry, and each brough something special to their characters.
Filmgoers should be aware that without prior knowledge about these characters, it would seem that this movie fails to give much backstory to its lead characters. This film is not meant to be a stand-alone, rather it is a next installment in the Marvel movie franchise that surrounds Captain America, Thor, The Hulk, and Iron Man. For those comic book fans who have waited so long for this film, this should definitely meet their expectations!
In recent years, my expectations for a film have greatly lowered. I was cautiously optimistic about "The Avengers." Although it has its negatives ("Scarlet Johansson, although an improvement from Iron Man 2," still leaves much to be desired; the film does get slow at certain parts; the story is a bit simplistic), they seem to fade in the distance when the great dialogue and action draws one great big comic book on the screen. Bravo, Joss Whedon!

The movie was awesome...I was worried during the first 10 minutes or so when they were leading into the story...but as soon as it all started coming together, you forget you had any doubts whatsoever. I loved the humor throughout the movie and thought Mark Ruffalo was an excellent choice to play the mild mannered Bruce...for those of us who grew up watching the Incredilble Hulk tv series, it was a great personality portrayal. Scarlett Johansson was absolutely beautiful and perfect as Black Widow...and I'm impressed by Chris Hemsworth...never really a Thor fan before, but could be now :) There's not much to really say about Robert Downey, Jr and Chris Evans...they were at the top of their game as usual...and even more attractive than ever! The entire cast was just great...The kids loved it and they are our biggest critics! LOL I would definitely recommend seeing this movie!

This was an awesome culmination of movies that have been leading up to this spectacular event since Iron Man in 2008! Great story, great effects, great characters and a real geek fest for those who are fans of the comics as well! Marvel has done an excellent job of bringing this event together. I even thought Chris Evans was better as Captain America in this movie than his first outing as the Star Spangled Avenger. Mark Ruffalo was a better Bruce Banner/Hulk than Ed Norton in my opinion, can't wait to see more of him in that role in following movies. Robert Downey Jr., well...he continues to prove that nobody else could've pulled of Tony Stark/Iron Man the way he did. And Tom Huddleston as Loki, briliant! I was very pleased to see more of Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye cause he was great! Scarlett Johansson was incredible as Black Widow, her scene with Loki was very well done! And she looked great too! Another person I loked better in his role this time around, Chris Hemsworth. Much better as Thor in this movie I think. Plus, Sam Jackson...well, he's just great in everything he does.
Bottom line...It's action packed and has hillarious moments as well, many of them provided by the Hulk! If you like sci-fi or action movies or just a fan of comic book movies this is a perfect movie to see!

Given all the hype for this movie, my and my family's expectations were very high.
Well, I'm happy to say we were not disappointed in the slightest. It lives up to all the hype and more. I'm so glad we saw it opening weekend, because I would hate to have known all the best lines before seeing it. All the good lines of this movie will become part of pop culture within weeks. And the movie is likely to stand up as one of the greats in the superhero genre for a long time to come.
It's hard to know what to praise first. It was just all so good. It was one of those movies that you only want to end because you have to go pee so bad and you don't want to leave and miss a single second. :-)
Only if you extremely dislike superhero movies should you avoid seeing this. And if you only see one movie this summer (and some people can only afford that pleasure sparingly), this should be it. It's THAT good.

A "not a problem the line is out the door and around the corner" movie. Worth every time switch just to be head of the line for a good seat. Awesome movie.... Started a little slow, but the ending (and the credits) make you wanna research when the sequel is!!! GOOD JOB!

Even though I hadn't seen all of the previous single-hero movies (Iron Man and Captain America being the 2 I'd seen), it wasn't difficult to jump into this flick. The action was fast and furious, with enough comic relief interspersed to give me a chance to let the heart rate stabilize before picking back up again. RDJ was fabulous as always. The interplay between Iron Man and Captain America was fun to watch. My family quoted favorite lines almost all the way home. Can't wait to get this one on DVD.

Iron Man is my most current litmus test for superhero action movies. I thought this movie made the grade (which is impressive), but did not surpass it. The capabilities of the Iron Man suit were effectively highlighted. I loved the one liners and comedic dialogue!! This was my favorite aspect of the movie. Robert Downey Jr continues to excel as Iron Man. People were definitely correct in that the Hulk stole the show. Plus, I really liked Mark Rufalo as David Banner. Different than previous actors, but still good.

After waiting 8 years for Marvel to make the Avengers movie and all of the movies up to it; they created a masterpiece! I loved the movie! I saw it in 3D as well as digital projection. The 3D was nice in that it added depth t the movie, noting jumped out of the screen at you. I highly recommend going to see this movie!

Outstanding! Great story line, great action and special effects. The actors did a fantastic job of portraying the characters. It was good to see that each hero was given their share of the spotlight and we were so glad to see that the characters were tough and not wimps. What really surprised us was the great writing and humor throughout the movie. The audience was laughing out loud and reacting to every action scene. We plan on seeing this again soon. Definitely hope that the sequel is just as good or surpasses this movie.

Really enjoyed this movie. Have been following The Avengers since I was a kid and they have done a good job with all the Marvel movies leading up to this by keeping them true to the comics including this one. Also loved the one liners, jokes and jabs.

This was such a good movie! Totally lived up to what i expected. Mark Ruffalo did such a great job as Bruce Banner I loved it! Robert Downey Jr. was awesome like always! It was just an all around great movie, from the cast to the special effects....i can't wait to buy it when it comes out on dvd!!!

I have been looking forward to Avengers for a long time, BUT it was even better than I had anticipated! All of the Avengers were brilliant, but the Hulk stole the show! Lots of action as well as some really good laughs! Had everything I would want in a movie!!

This movie was perfect. It played on all the hints from the previous marvel

I have been waiting for over 20yrs to see this on the big screen. I have collected The Avengers, for more than 25yrs. The only downside, was that Capt. America was seen using a gun. Any die hard marvel universe fan knows that he would never pick up a gun.
Aside from that, the stoy line was on point, the characters were believeable, and the special effects were tight.

The action was great except it didn't get to great until near the end, but the story, acting, and effects were great. I like all of the avengers, but I also like how they were all evenly distributed through out the movie-I also liked the unity through out the movie of all of the different avengers with each of their different stories happening simultaneously, but the theater I went to had new projectors or something so they cut out near the end. So I didn't really see the last two minutes of the movie plus the additional scene(I heard it). Good movie though.
