took my 15 year old son -mom & son tradition to see the marvel movies together. we were so excited to see it and not disappointed at all--better than i even imagined it could have been--had all the elements of a great movie--funny, exciting, suspenseful, action--and a little romance--incredibly good movie--BEAST!!!!!

I can't recommend this movie highly enough. The Avengers successfully captured everything I love about comicbooks. Marvel and Whedon demonstrate it is possible to make a superior adaptation without sacrificing the integrity of the source material.
A concern was that Downey might steal the show and IM would eclipse other characters in the execution of the story. I am happy to report that this is not the case. All the relevant characters were well represented and each made their own important contributions to the film and the action. If anything I thought Scarjo and Ruffalo really stood out as Black Widow and the Hulk.
The action was beyond spectacular with each battle trumping the next and the team dynamic particularly stood out as it should.
MAKE SURE TO STAY FOR BOTH IN-CREDIT SCENES AT THE END OF THE FILM!!! Both worthwhile.
I can't wait to see it again!

This is by far, the best super hero movie ever. Joss Whedon was a perfect choice to direct/write this film. He is able to perfectly mix both the action and the dialogue during the action scenes, as well as giving each character nearly equal amounts of screen time. And the little inside jokes that were placed throughout the film had my theatre laughing hysterically. I would definitely recommend this movie to all my friends and family.

This movie basically lived up to my expectations and more. Director/Writer Joss Whedon (you may know him as the creator of Firefly) has done a fantastic job of knitting together a plethora of stand-alone heroes into one big live action film. This movie has it all: awesome action, great humor, witty Joss Whedon dialogue, and a decent storyline. Since I am not necessarily well-versed in the comic book universe, I cannot say how accurate this movie is to canon, but still if you love superheroes then you will love this movie. The only thing this movie really lacks in is romance I guess as well as a deeper symbolism/story as seen in Christopher Nolan's Batman movies.
I am pleased with the direction Joss Whedon has taken this franchise. The movie is basically a whole Avengers origin story, where all of our heroes are getting used to one another. It makes sense given all of the heroes come from diverse backgrounds and films of their own. Even more important, Whedon does not neglect the character development of any one hero. The balance is near perfect in my opinion. This movie is the start of something huge, a Marvel dynasty. I eagerly await the upcoming Avenger films, no doubt there will be more to come.

Joss Whedon not only directed this movie, he was also the main source for the script. This screenplay delivers action, adventure, good v bad, and character development for each main superhero, and an good story plot. The character development made you care about each superhero and helped lay the foundation on how they would interact with each other (and why).

best superhero movie i have ever seen! saw this movie at midnight. great cast acting....everything about the movie was great. their wasnt one boring part either. that movie was hilarious.fight scenes were awesome. ive been waiting a long time to see thor and hulk fight each other. i cant pick what my favorite part of the movie was but ONE of the best parts was the fight between thor, captain america, and iron man. cant wait until the 2nd avengers movie :)..this has got to be one of my top favorite movies of all times :) i could watch it a couple hundred times and i would still not get bored lol.

Joss Whedon provided another amazing project with "The Avengers." An almost seemless transition from the previous movies, which was no small task. Character interaction was superb, and often hilarious. Though I will need to see this movie again, as the crowd was laughing over follow-ups from the one-liners.
I highly recommend you rush right out and see this movie. It exceeded all my expectations. Make sure to stick around after the credits, in the trend of the previous movies.
The only bad thing I can say about the movie is the choice of Bruce Banner. Having seen the trailers leading up, and enjoying Mark Ruffalo's earlier film roles, I thought I would give him a chance. Well, now I can say with all conviction that Mark Ruffalo was a poor choice for Banner. In my opinion, his performance was lack-luster and did not hold a candle to Edward Norton's.
Final thought...be prepared to be amazed!

This film probably stays closest to it's comic book roots of all the prequels. It will be interesting to see where the filmmakers take the series from here. Character development and representation was solid, and the carryover from the other films was seamless. Well done overall.

Great action and mostly fast-paced. The whole theater was into this movie! There were a lot of funny lines and all were delivered with great timing. This will definitely be a purchase, but it should be seen on the big screen, first.

I have gone to see each and every Marvel Comics based film that has been in theaters. The Avengers is truly the absolute best I have scene. I've been reading comics since I was in 4th grade and my collection is huge. Based off of my readings and the films that I have seen over the past 3 decades, I can honestly say that I have NEVER seen a comic book movie that made me so fulfilled and happy then The Avengers.
Joss Whedon has truly out-done himself in aspects of movie direction, screenwriting and movie making in general. The action of the film was epic. The cinematography was gorgeous and the special effects were astounding. I'm glad I didn't see it in 3D because now I can go see it again and match it on the differences.
This is now the standard that all comic book based movies will be judged on. Not because of the SFX or the Action, but because of the story. You couldn't help but care about these characters and the story pulled you in. The drama, the comedy, the action mixed with CG was like nothing I have seen since Star Wars.
There are movies I have loved and movies I have Hated. This is now the top bar. Everyone now has to reach to get past it.
Thank you Joss Whedon. Dude you ROCK!
