i usually fall asleep during animated movies, no matter how good they are--this time i didn't, and no it wasn't caffeine. the animation and special effects are marvelous. it was tough melding the Eastern message with Western sensibility but it will get easier. this was the introduction Astro Boy was completely amazing

The story line was great and the quality of the animation was exceptional. I really felt my heart go out to Astro boy as he struggled to gain acceptance from his inventor/father and to gain acceptance from society. Despite it all, he showed charisma and true concern for others. Most of the children were under the age of 12. After the movie, people applauded. I heard a group of children growling and make the statement “I love that movie and I want to go to the movies everyday!!” That statement alone should give any parent a feel for the sort appreciation to expect from their own child.

The visuals were awesome in this movie. But what happened to the plot? The story just wandered along without aim. And my mind began to drift off as a result.
All the action and excitement is contained in the trailer. I really wanted to LOVE this film but sadly was heart broken!
However, Nic Cage and Donald Sutherland braught real character to their voice-over rolls.
I hope the kids in the audience enjoyed Astro Boy more than I did.

My seven year old thought that Astro Boy was not good because there was too much dying involved. I thought it was hollywoods typical, 'people are bad and killing the earth garbage.' I'm a little sick of feeling like the 'bad guy' in all of these kids movies. I wish they would keep their propaganda to a minimum and just make a fun movie. I also hated the implication that the communist robots were trying to 'free' the enslaved robots--not generally what communists are known for (except to the hollywood leftists).
No, I do not recommend this movie.

I loved it! Well done!
The late Dr. Tezuka, the creator of Astroboy, does cameo-appearance twice. That was cute.
1) All the deep philosophical stuff that Dr. Tezuka tried to convey... this movie had altered it a little bit more toward the American taste... but it still retained most parts of the messages that he wanted to convey.
2) I think the kids will love it. This flying robot will be their hero.
3) The ending is semblant to "Fantastic Island of Unico," which is yet another charming creation by Dr. Tezuka.
4) Stephen Spielberg should now acknowledge where he got his ideas about A.I. from, now that this movie made it apparent to everyone.

This movie was amazing. Wow... I took my younger sister to see this and was thinking that it would be a cute kid movie, but I was pleasantly surprised by the topics that came up. I would definately reccomend it to older children (10 and up)

This is one of those "family films" that provides a great story, wonderful animation, and great paced entertainment but also runs deeper; very much in the way that Star Wars plays with mythologies and grand themes. I took my two boys, ages five and nine, and they were both riveted. There were many seriously touching moments as well as funny ones, which worked successfully as the characters were richer and more complex. The storyline riffs on references from Dickens' Oliver Twist, the Roman Gladiator battles, The Jetsons and Star Wars, among other things and it's just a great deal of fun. I would recommend it highly to anyone, and trust that this thing should be a blockbuster.

I took my son (11) and 5 of his friends to the pre-screening at IFC. I was worried it would be for a younger audience. They all had a great time and I even cried a couple of times. We had the chance to ask questions to the director which was also a great experience for the kids.

Had a wonderful time seeing this movie with my 12 yr. old son. He's not that familiar with the characters but I do! (my favorite cartoon when I was a kid). This is a must see movie! love it!

Our family (mom, dad, 2 boys ages 11 & 13) loved this movie. Truly well done in every way-good script, interesting characters, great voice talent and beautifully done animation. We are fans of the Astroboy comics and were really looking forward to this movie. It exceeded all expectations! The story may be too scary for very young children-a boy is killed in an explosion early on and recreated by his scientist father as a robot-Astroboy. That said, the theater was full of little kids who seemed to enjoy the movie. I would happily recommend this to families with kids 8 & up.
