If you are a child (boys especially) between the ages of 7 & 11 years of age I think you will like this movie and stay awake through the 94 minute length. For most kids under 7 it will be too intense at times. If you are over 11 (and especially if you are over 18) you will be fighting to keep your eyelids up through the second half. I did like the voice casting and appreciated the animation style. The problem is that 90% of the potential movie-going audience does not fit the targeted demographic and most of us outside that demographic will be mollified into heading off to "sleepyville".

Took my nephew to see this movie, and we had a great time. We both enjoyed watching all of the action in the movie. Of course, the underlying message of the whole movie is lost on a 6-yr-old. But I found the message to be wonderful. This a good movie for the whole family!

This movie starts off a little too "intellectual" for younger kids..and kind of slow to the part they want to see...astro boy flying around! The part that the kid actually dies at the beginning leaves the kids confused and sad....not to mention some of the parts were a little boring to my kid...and he wanted to leave the theatre...i really thought this movie was going to be better...but disappointing to both my kid and I.

A good film for all the family. My kids (5,7,10) all really enjoyed this action packed movie, especially the ending. The messages in the film were good and not overplayed. The action was constant and, although violent in places, non threatening. The voices were very good, especially Donald Sutherland and Bill Nighy. I would highly recommend this.

First off in a movie presumably for kids, the kid dies about 5 minutes into the movie. I understand that drives the plot, but one would think there would be a better explanation for what happened than he simply died. In addition, it certainly was a bit too scary for young kids. Finally, and i imagine most importantly, the plot line was too stupid to keep adults interested. If nothing better to do, than it will entertain the kids, but basically a disappointment.

Good movie. Not great, but truly worth seeing on the big-screen with surround sound.
There was a hint of an environmental message that reminded me of "Up." The character development was good--some character changes were a little quick and ungrounded, but helped the story along.

The animation was fine. The performances were good, given the material they had to work with, save that of Nick Cage (the dad/scientist), who really didn't deliver parental acceptance/love at the end. Frankly, most of the characters are unidimensional. The pacing is horribly slow, save the few action sequences. The plot is incredibly thin, failing to explore numerous possibilities that could have been interesting. It's unoriginal, and was done better in AI. There were several kids in the audience nearby, from 4 - 13, and they kept asking "why?" questions - which leads me to believe the film doesn't even work as a kid flick. if you're an adult - avoid; if you have kids, wait for cable or dvd.

Having grown up with this iconic little hero myself I was delighted to introduce him to my grandchilden and gratified they found him every bit as exciting as I did. It is still the same origin story with some modern twists, but the essence of brave boy robot with more compassion than most humans hasn't changed. The only negative was Cage as Dr. Tenma who does little to endear himself to the audience. Their reunion at the end of the movie feels forced and a little creepy. He could learn a thing or two from his creation. Astro Boy is rather simplistic, but entertaining and a great kid's movie...and everything a hero should be !

This is a great movie for kids. My son loved it. Kids don't care about deeper social meaning, they want to be entertained with cute characters, bright lively animation, and for the boys, some stuff blowing up. This movie had all of that, plus a heartwarming story about a man who lost his son, tried to recreate him and failed, but learned to love the thing he had created. It's a good message for any audience.

This movie was heartless and soul-less, but at least it doesn't go for the cheap vulgar laughs like most "kids" movies. Basically, they took an iconic Japanese character and dumped him into an American stock-plot-movie - one of those generic ready-made, off-the-shelf kiddy plots designed to make everyone think this is some "meaningful" movie. Seems like the "writers" missed the boat on this one; the last few minutes of the movie are an utter embarrassment to watch. Bottom line, this Astroboy is unoffensive, but generic and forgettable.

I watched the movie with my 10 years old daughter and my husband. It was great! I was born and raised in Japan, so I used to watched Astro Boy TV series when I was kid. Original stories were created 60 years ago. The good thing in story is that the Astro boy forgive even bad guys at the end.Did you know Osamu Tezuka created original "Lion King" 60 years ago. Somebody stole the story and sold it to Disney. However, Tezuka didn't sue Disney, instead he said "The most important thing is that many people enjoy the story." I took my 4 & 6 year olds to see this movie & they both enjoyed it. Usually my 4 year old would fall asleep during movies, this one he did not. The animation was great! It was a little too tough for my little ones to understand (which I would think is the norm) the story but they enjoyed the movie regardless.

As a longtime fan of the original Japanese Manga series and later television show I was worried that Hollywood would destroy this franchise as it has so many others. While the film deviates significantly from the original I was at least about to enjoy most of the movie. Be warned, it bears little resemblance to the long loved Astro Boy of yore.

I thought I was bringing my son and his friend to another animated movie I would soon forget; but this was not the case. I enjoyed it, but mostly, I thought hat the movie was multi-dimensional. It was action filled as well as appealed to an emotional side. That I did not expect,. It is worth the trip to the movies, if you can make it!

Saw it with my 7,9,11 and 12 yr olds, didn't like it much, as an adult, it has a weak plot, a little AI, Robots, and others mixed in too much, no time to develop any real connection with the kid, they KILL the kid in the 1st part, NOT COOL for younger or emotional kids, major Dad/Son relationship issues, PG is appropriate, I little too dark for young ones. Nick Cage didn't really fit character except when being horrible to his kid. Animation was great. 9 yr old thought it was boring, and it was for the middle hour.
No, I do not recommend this movie.
