I now appreciate the making of many of Amelia's flights(time, fuel, weather, and condition of plane). Even with the best laid plans, we al;ways overlook one item-human error. It held my suspense until the end. The costumes and antique planes were a great addition in recreating the times and places for this movie.

This movie is the story of Earhart shown through her eyes...a woman impassioned to fly!
But how you get to her flying is a very SLOW process - more akin to a snail's pace than an energetic airman, er, airwoman!
Swank and Gere do offer powerful performances that make you forget who they are and pull you into this movie's true story.
Overall, good film, just don't go if you're expecting a lot of action.

Being a part time student of History, I immediately wanted to go see this film after seeing it being advertised on TV. Since I had not read any of the books from which this film was derived nor any film reviews, I came into the theater with a sense of curiousity and a farily open mind.
The writers, film makers and actors did a good job of transporting the audience back in time so that one could begin to feel what it must have been like to live during the first 40 years of the 20th century. The film score, cinematography, and Ms. Swank were all very beautiful which added much to the romantic/nostalgic tone of the film. Overall, this is a good film biography.

This movie offers great personal insight into an individual about whose mysterious disappearance much has been written and filmed, but about whom little has been produced as a person. I really feel as though I know Amelia Earhart having seen the film. The cinematography, costumes and sets are beautiful, and the actors all do a fine job of portraying real people with real life issues. I must say that I do not understand the less than glowing "critical reviews" of this movie; The critics have reviewed so many movies with less merit so much better than they have this one...I wanted to see for myself, and am very glad that I did. You will be too.

I really enjoyed it but it had some slow moments. I noticed that the theatre was filled with older folks. Nothing wrong with that but I am 16 years old and I'm pretty sure I was one of the very few teenagers there at that movie. I thought Hilary Swank did an excellent job though. I never thought of her in previous roles i thought of her as Amelia Earhart.

While the cinematography was beautiful and the acting was very good. The story drags along until the end. Anything of interest about her life is glossed over. Myself, my Daughter and Mom all fell asleep at certain points in the movie. Better to rent and watch at home.

I thoroughly enjoyed this movie. It was very realistic and factual in addition to great acting. The costumes, scenery and locations were very well representative of the era in which the events took place. It was also a good story, although the ending was sad, of course.

Hilary Swank channels Amelia Earhart is this bio-epic. The problem is that the writer and director do not imbue the screen character and her surroundings (people & place) with enough passion, spontaneity and rawness to allow Swank to inhabit a movie that is as special and breath-taking as what she accomplished. If the movie were a dart game Swank would be in dead center and most of the rest of the darts (cinematography one exception) would be in the wall and not the board. Rent this one in 2 months.

The movie was excellent. The producers and directors did a great job of making the movie seem as close to reality as possible. Furthrmore, Hillary Swank and Richard Gere did exellent acting jobs in their respective roles. The film did not have a happy ending but that is ok since it is based on a true story. Not all situations in life have happy "Hollywood Movie" endings. If you're looking to see a film that depicts reality at its best than I highly recommend you see Amelia.

As a female pilot myself, I wanted to love this film about the audacious aviatrix but instead found it disappointing. The production design, cinematography, costuming and actors are first-rate – Hilary Swank is an enthusiatic Amelia – but the dull, old-school script glosses over the woman's complexity and romanticizes it. For example, her Kansas girlhood and early flying life are shown only in flashback, so you miss her motivation. I got bored about halfway through. . For truer depictions of Ms. Earhart, I recommend the 1976 TV biopic Amelia Earhart starring Susan Clark and PBS’s American Experience: Amelia Earhart – The Price of Courage.

I found the film "Amelia" to be an extremely self-conscious depiction of Amelia Earhart's life. The title character, played by Hilary Swank, seemed to be constantly asking for permission to be herself. After initially getting over the dead-on physical similarity between the actress and Amelia Earhart, the film maligns itself by degenerating into a melodrama of the Svengali / Prof. Henry Higgins personage of George Putnam transforming Amelia Erhart into just another bar of soap to be merchandised. This consuming business relationship that eventually is consummated into the Putnam/Earhart marriage further degenerates into the extramarital exploits between Earhart and Eugene Vidal, Gore Vidal’s father.

I have been waiting to see this since I first saw the trailers- and I was not at all disappointed. If you are a movie buff that is looking for gore and blood- lots of action and drama-- this is NOT a movie for you.
However, if you, like me, is looking for insight into who Amelia Earheart was- the person- this was a very enjoyable, insightful movie.
I felt that Hilary Swank did an exceptional job portraying Amelia- accent, mannerisms and somewhat dry personality. Richard Gere came across as being the man behind the legend...
Even though you knew how the movie was going to end-- ultimately-- there was no sense of disappointment that it did not end in fire and flash--
At least, not for anyone in our party!

72 years after Amelia Earhart's disappearance a movie attempts to take flight. I use the word "attempts" loosely. "Amelia" does not even get off the ground. This was not a movie, but played more like a time line of Amelia Earhart's life. I was so bored at times I almost fell asleep. Hilary Swank plays "Amelia" brillantly but that is where the brilliance ends.There is too many gaps in the movie, too much left untouched. It looks as though things were pieced together and you are left to guess or fill in the gaps yourself. This is supposed to be a Biopic Drama, but it felt more like an unfinished spotty documentary.

This is another period movie that does an effective job of exploring Amelia love of flying. It also brought out the flaws in the around the world plan that were little known. They also recreated the airplane in the Smithsonian "Big Red" of hers that was neat to see brought out in the movie. The movie was slow in parts but overall was very well done.

I was not crazy about this movie. It portrayed the events of a few years of Amelia's life beginning with her first trans Atlantic flight. Then she went the next distance and then she went further the next time. I agree with another reviewer that said they would have liked to see more about her growing up and learning to fly. The actors did an excellent job of portraying their characters, but it was not enough for me to say I would like to see the movie again. I began to look at my watch to see when it was going to be over. None of our group of 4 were enthusiastic about seeing this one. Everybody felt that it was just alright. I wanted to see and engaging story. Amelia did not do it for me.
No, I do not recommend this movie.

This movie is worth seeing however there is something missing. The character development was poor. Hilary Swank was outstanding. The photography was beautiful but the script was only average.

As a young girl growing up I read a ton of books on Amelia. Some great points in the movie, but it was hard to feel the passion of the characters.
