I thought Hilary Swank did a great job; she was Amelia. The last scenes with her knowing they were lost were incredibly powerful. However, overall, the movie was a big disappointment to me and my husband. Script was weak and the direction was not up to what we expect from Mira Nair. I read one of the books the movie was based on, East to the Dawn by Susan Butler, several years ago and would highly recommend it.

Slow moving, too much commentary and not enough dialogue. I expected more from Hilary Swank and was looking for more beautiful costums. I wanted to know, how Amelia learned to fly? More background information on her life would have been nice. I admired Amelia for her intelligence and courage, she was shown in this movie to be promiscuous, that fact was very dissapointing at best.

Hilary Swank, Richard Gere and Ewan McGregor were excellent in the movie but I would have expected nothing less. The movie had some interesting parts but was very choppy. I had a general knowledge of the story and would probably have enjoyed the movie more if I had known the story better. There really wasn't a good flow and I felt a little lost in places. I would save it for a rental.

I had such high expectations for this movie; however, a spotty, disconnected and over edited storyline made it difficult to enjoy. There was enormous potential to go deeper with the characters and yet it didn't . . . which was almost agonizing.
The bright spots for me were: 1) Ewan McGregor in a heartbreaking portrayal of Gene Vidal, 2) the earnest portrayals of the Navy radio men on Howland Island, and 3) the gorgeous planes.
Maybe this is one of those stories best told in two parts in order to fully capture the amazing achievements and the intriguing personal life of Amelia Earhart? Don’t know . . . but this muddled movie glazed over both and left me disappointed.

Love the job done by Hilary Swank and Richard Gere. The story was slow but so was the time period. Good information about Amelia and her flying profession. It is no blockbuster...but there was no violence and profanity like the newer movies. YEAH !! Worth going to see in my opinion. Great, great scenery !!

Hillary Swank did a good job of putting a human face on the legend of Amelia Earhart. I don't know enough about the real person to know how accurate the portrayal is, but the movie depicted her as very self centered about getting what she wanted, which made her controversial at times. Even so, I felt a sense of loss at the end. The depiction of the time period was great, which gave something to savor when the action was slow. As for being a flyer, was she brave, or just reckless? See the movie and decide for yourself.

Everything that could have been good about this movie WAS good...Hilary Swank, Richard Gere, Ewan McGregor, even the kid who played little Gore Vidal--all excellent in their roles. Even though we all "knew how the movie would end," the tension building up to the end was tangible nonetheless. For me, the only thing that would have been a nice touch to the film would have been if they'd played Joni Mitchell's "Amelia" in its entirety during the end credits. Just a thought.

I agree that Hilary Swank did an excellent job portraying Amelia so much so that at the end when old film excerpts are shown of the real Amelia one can't see a difference between the two. Richard Gere does a good G P and the rest of the cast is good in their roles. It was excellent!! My only disappointment was it didn't cover her time in Chicago, but it didn't and couldn't cover many other aspects of her early life because what it did was 2 hrs!! Overall, an excellent receation of the life and times of a real person!!

I really liked this movie. I think Hillary Swank, played Amelia very well. Sometimes I forgot that it was not the real Amelia. Amelia was a independent spirit who in a time when women were demure and softspoken, she was outspoken and not afraid to push the buttons. I liked the costumes of that time period and I was pleasantly surprised. I like longer movies and this one was just the right length of time. I thought Richard Gere played a great role as Amelia's husband, he played the adoring husband and I believed him. Richard is so likeable, no matter what he is playing he always does his best. Unfortunately the ending was brief because we never knew what happened to her.

i'm sure ms. swank produced this film to honor an american icon. i'm equally sure it was a mistake to go with this screenplay. it's an unsatisfying depiction that could have been so much more. yeah, i get that she was a maverick, but - i don't know WHY. the pacing is off; the movie is slow and boring. character development is just about non-existent. swank's performance is fine; gere and mcgregor phone theirs in. the cinematography is nice; the score tried its darnedest to get me emotionally involved, but failed due to the script deficiencies. the couple next to us got up and left after an hour. if i were alone, i would have left - i know how the story ends(companion didn't). we thought astro boy (disliked) was better than this film.

I was pleasantly surprised with this film. Hillary Swank's interpretation of Earhart is spot-on. This movie serves well as a period piece to celebrate Earhart's true love...that of flying. The addition of Richard Gere to the cast adds a certain refinement of character, not only of the part he plays (I think one of his better performances in this one), but also affects the entire movie itself. This movie will probably do better in DVD rentals and sales, and on the pay movie channels. This was not a "barnstormer" of a film, because Earhart was not a "barnstorming" lady, but a very charming and determined one. I believe this movie succeeds in displaying both qualities remarkably well.

This movie was wonderful, but you must remember that it is based on fact and is not one of those present day action, scifi or unrealistic flicks. If you want to be entertained with lots of action and computerized fluff you won't like it. It is REAL.
While I would have liked to see more about her "behind the scenes" involvement and less of her "double" love life, I still really enjoyed this movie, but of course, I love history and real life stories.

This film reminded me of Sky King in color. It was about as deep as that old series, but has better music and cinemaphotography. For at least the first hour, the characters were cardboard standups, albeit with some animation. I kept waiting to find out more about Amelia than the fact that she wanted freedom and wanted to fly. That didn't happen.
The plusses are that Ms. Swank has a great smile and tears up very well. Her costumes were great.
As for the film being a family movie as my fellow lover of BC's claims, if adultery is your idea of good family fun, we part ways.

Good movie. Great acting! I think the movie could have dealt just a little bit less about her double love live, and include more 'behind the scenes' details of her other flights. Personally, I would have appreciated seeing her do at least one basic pre-flight inspection or even just a simple walk around the airplane before taking off . That would have been so easy to work into the script. I would have liked seeing a few more simple details like that included. I hope the movie gets more women and young girls interested in flying...it is indeed all that Amelia made it out to be!!! She was an amazing woman, and an outstanding pilot!! I thought it was good movie. I would definately recommend seeing it .

Good solid family movie, though might be a bit slow moving for some. I enjoyed the history in the movie, as I know little about Amelia Earhart. Performances solid, though no oscars waiting for this one. I recommend this movie as good, solid entertainment.

How can two oscar winners perform so badly in one film? The dialogue, if one would call it that, was shallow and forced. The plot or story line was disconnected, and any character attachment was distant. The music was light and pleasant. My wife and I almost dozed off during many parts fo the movie. Save money by renting when it comes out in dvd at the Red Box.

An excellent acting job by Hillary S. Enjoyed the feel of the period well done throughout this historical journey. Would like to have seen maybe a little more of the flying detail and experiences but a nice movie for PG audiences.

Amelia was a very well acted movie that provides an excellent account of some interesting historical events. Hillary Swank looks amazingly like the real Ameila. I would recommend this movie to parents for their kids to see (12 & older) because of it's historical significance and magnificent photography.
