This is a nice modest movie, somewhat slow, about kids, most of whom are one or another form of social outliers, who are working one summer in a tacky low-budget amusement park (the Adventureland of the title). The male lead is bookish, innocent to the point of being naive, and way-overeducated for this summer stint. But he is likable, and mixes easily with the other park employees. This is a small movie with modest charms, but a nice movie about basically nice young people. It could be brisker! But don't have excess expectations, and you can enjoy it.

If the previews hadn't made it seem so funny it wouldn't have been as disappointing, although it wasn't terrible. The story is predictable, but the 80s setting gives it a cool twist and the acting isn't horrible...the dialogue is weak but the characters are likable. I laughed a lot. My boyfriend and I both though Bill Hader should have had a bigger part, he is hysterical.

Adventureland waits too long to get interesting. I didn't really care about any of the main characters until the romance comes to a head about 2/3 of the way through.
I couldn't get over the poor Michael Cera imitation that Jesse Eisenberg is forced to do throughout the movie.
Also if you didn't believe the dialogue coming out of Juno's mouth then skip Adventureland.
Still it's better than staying home.

Honestly, I am a fan of many of the actors featured in this film & I was sadly DISAPPOINTED. It had all the makings for a comedy masterpiece but failed in every direction. We went STONED & still could find NO ENJOYMENT in this movie.

The previews looked like this would be a 'summer fun' comedy. While there were a few good laughs, they were few and far between. Most of the subject matter was quite serious and some of it even depressing. I'm not saying serious movies are bad, just not what I thought I was getting into. When I first saw the out takes I thought that this could be an interesting movie, however I thought the pacing of the movie was a little slow. The acting was good and believable, but todays typical audience 15 to 30 expects a little more action. Some scenes were well done example the threat of the knife fight, the fireworks on the hill and most of the scenes envolving Bill Hader. It was a movie for an afternoons entertainment, but not a movie that you would think about or ponder over.

I really enjoyed it. To me it was kind of a 1980's Dazed and Confused with more attempts at blatant humor. Not as funny as expected, but definetly more heartfelt (not in a sappy way though). It has its romantic storyline, but it is one that is relatable and not one that makes you want to throw up. Overall a good movie that will remind you why you never really want to grow up.

Honestly going by reviews, I expected this movie to be more comedic less dramatic. None-the-less I still fell in love with it 's great writing and poignant to life views on growing up. Kristen Stewart is amazing- having seen her in Twilight and In The Land Of Women before I'm A BIG fan of hers which is why I went to see this film. I thought it was good for a little laugh- and it had a quirky little story line. It really does make sense about how ridiculous the jobs are at carnivals- this movie them reminded me a lot of that American Dreamz making fun of American Idol- so it's funny how they did that so well and the two people in charge of the carnival one word HILARIOUS! And what really topped the cake was that kid from those AT&T commercials about the rollover minutes- he was in it and kept punching Jesse Eisenberg- HYSTERICAL:) So all in all def. check it out if you want a quick laugh- it was a fun and quirky film:)

This movie was heavily marketed as a romantic , coming of age 'comedy' and in my opinion was a dark, painful saga of a young man's disappointing life. Wow, I don't really know where to start on this movie review or how to progress, but that is fine because neither did the writers of this movie. To me the movie felt like the writers watched a ton of teen angst movies and tried to mush them all together with terrible dialog. Putting aside the pointless time period shift, I really couldn't find a single linear plot progression. I understand that this poor kid's parents have fallen on hard times and that his summer is awful now, but why do I care? The one redeeming factor of the movie was the old best friend punching everyone below the belt, mainly because I felt that the movie was doing that to me for the whole 1 hour and 46 minutes so it was nice to see it visualized.

Bill Hader and summer memories are the only good parts about this movie. If you want a movie to get you in a summer mood, this is it. You can tell they put up a front of a movie that tried to be funny, but mostly failed because a lot of the funny parts were just awkward. It had a home-movie feel to some of the scenes, which just added to the awkwardness. The main character is an unlikable wuss. The ending was the worst part, but by that point I was just glad it was over.

Don't go into this expecting Super Bad pt. 2...it's not as funny or silly but it is a great movie and it does have it's laugh out loud moments. I'm not into writing long reviews so I'll cut to the chase: It's good. I totally recommend it. It's clever and the cast makes sence. The soundtrack ROCKS b/c the movie takes you back to 1987... Can't wait to see it again!

Mottola shows us a brilliant microcosm of Americana -- a theme park staffed by teenagers who are fettering into the world. For a change, we meet a young man who's sure there's more than instant gratification, and a young lady who cares little for herself and finds ONLY that. These two fumble through their 'might be' relationship ... and they keep on trying to 'get there.'
A refreshing movie with thoughtfully developed characters, comic relief and some genuinely sweet moments. Fabulous acting all around -- and baby boomers will be taken back ...

This was definitely a formulaic coming of age flick. However, the actors (not just the two fabulous leads) completely carried this thing and made it work. The '80s setting was well done and the musical numbers were aptly chosen. I will own it on DVD.

Hard to believe that Greg Mottola could create such a personal and enjoyable tale of the transition from college back to the real world. Although the characters are somewhat stereotypical, the cast performances are restrained enough for you care about what's going on. SNL veteran Bill Hader is hilarious. Truly a nice movie: the drama and comedy of everyday events that we can all relate.

While aimed squarely at my demographic - the 40-ish crowd that graduated in '87 - the movie tries just a little too hard to tug at the nostalgic heartstrings. The sentimentality comes off forced, if not a little artificial.
Overall, not bad. Not great either. I think this movie missed it's potential.
I just kept wondering if Jesse Eisenberg hates Michael Cera, or vice versa. It's like the male version of Helen Hunt/ Leelee Sobieski.
