This was well filmed, and it gave you a chance to see the real emotion on the faces of the actors for their farewell performance. I would recommend this to anyone, and to have had the chance to see the final performance was awesome.

This was an excellent chance to see this wonderful show with the Broadway cast one last time. I will definitely buy it if it comes out on DVD. And the oringinal cast joining the current cast for the finale was very touching. Everyone in the theater was moved.

This film gives everybody the chance to experience one of the greatest shows to grace the stage, and to be a part of history. The last performance of any show is a magical thing to see and I feel priviledged to be able to see it in such a unique way. I encourage everybody to catch this film before it leaves theatres, whether you're a seasoned Broadway addict or someone who has never experienced a live show, you will not be disappointed. RENT will go down in history as a piece of influential social commentary that will never be irrelevant, and the final cast does Jonathan Larson's masterpiece proud. Don't miss the final curtain when some of the members of the original cast, and the movie, come on stage to sing Seasons of Love one last time.

Superb movie. Of course, nothing is as good as seeing the show live in a theater -- BUT what Sony did with the final performances of Rent on Broadway should be done with every show on Broadway!
I felt I was right there on stage with the actors! and the performances were superb! Music, sound, crystal clear.
Please, please, please release this on DVD!
Could not have been better produced than simply being in the theater.
Hugely better than the movie version of "Rent"

I have been a fan of RENT since its first release years ago. I saw the original production and several touring productions. I loved Pascal and Vega as singers, but not their acting - perhaps since both were band singers before RENT, they represented the gritty sound the original director was going for. This newly filmed version has an amazing cast who work well together and spark wonderful chemistry. The biggest surprise was Angel -- he recreated the roll and made it his own, adding some hilarious quirks to the character that made me love Angel even more; and made it THAT much more devastating when Angel meets his fate.

Unlike other filmed versions of stage productions that I've seen, Rent was a faithful recording of the stage show without the awkwardness that can result. This is not the OBC, but I wasn't disappointed in the final cast.
One note - this is long, 2 1/2 hrs. with an intermission.

I saw RENT twice on Broadway and of course, the movie. I never really enjoyed it. In the theatre, I felt the music was so loud it drowned out the players even with the mics right up to their mouth. But here the mix of music and voice was perfect. The cast was excellent for the most part. I thoroughly enjoyed every minute.

The whole cast was fabulous in this filmed version of the broadway musical Rent. The special appearance by some of the original cast members was very moving. It was not the same as seeing it live in the theater, but it was certainly better than the movie (which I also love)! I hope this version is released on DVD!

I have a been a fan of RENT since it came out in 2006. I have seen it in several cities live including this cast live on Broadway! But to get to see it SO up close and personal was AMAZING! I loved all the choices that were made when it came to close up's and all! The fact that they actually have an intermission made me laugh! I would ask anyone to go and see this film, and YES! I would see it again...

I will admit...I am a total RENThead. This was probably my 7th or 8th time seeing the play--saw the movie and it was ok.
I thought everyone played their character extremely well. Contrary to the other review, I thought Roger's voice was fantastic. He brought me to tears several times.
In some aspects, I liked the filming because the cameras zoomed in on faces that unless you're in the front, you don't see, but there was a downside to that as well because when they're zoomed in on someone, you miss what is going on elsewhere on the stage.
Overall, I loved it. The entire cast was phenomenal--specifically Mimi and Maureen whose voices blew me away. Well worth the experience for this RENThead. :-)

there was only one thing I would change about the film - I would have liked to see more shots where the camera could have panned in. Didnt' need the extreme close-ups for most of the shoot. I was a bit distracted by being able to see the performers' dental work...
However, Rent is a genius work and as such I highly recommend it.

I have seen the show live 14 times. So it is hard not to compare and be picky. Not to mention the fact that I am an actor and a director. Some of the camera work is off and I wish they had done more full stage shots at times, because I know that other things were happening that I would have liked to have seen. I LOVED Mark, Maureen and Joanne. I liked Roger but at times he was very quiet and you missed a lot of his part. I did not care for Angel because I felt the actor was too masculine. He needed more life and flame. However, all in all, it was great to see the last performances captured on film. It was so moving and I still cried even tho I have seen it so many times. I really really hope that they release this for DVD distribution.

Going into this, I just thought it would be a straight-forward video recording of a live performance of Rent. It became apparent early on that this was going to be SO MUCH MORE! The editing alone for this movie should be applauded. It somehow managed to make you feel like you were in a theater, on Broadway, watching Rent. The cuts were fast and artistic and framed Rent well. This is what the film version SHOULD have been.
Really a great experience and made me fall in love with a score and story that I've loved for over 10 years. Definitely worth seeing and I hope there are plans to release both a soundtrack and DVD of this version!

I have been a RENT fan since the first time I saw it on broadway. I have the 2-disc cd version. I think the problem with fans going to see a movie preformance of RENT is that we expect the voices to ones we remember and the people to be our same favorites. It was a phenomenal preformance that kept me excited and interested (even though I've seen it 3x). There were times that I thought oh, I don't like that character. What I didn't like and was so resistant to was, change. But to be honest each new actor brought something new to the role which keeps the play interesting. I think overall RENT is a great musical/play and felt honored to get such a up close and personal screening of the play. Any RENT enthusiast will love this film!!!

It's like being in the front row on Broadway. Having only seen the touring cast in the past, and from a distance, you really miss a lot of the little nuances of the performance. It's also clear that the show has evolved over the years so that today's audience gets it but the show is still set in the 90's.

I didn't know what to expect going into this, but it was filmed perfectly. The close-ups allowed you to see things you could never see on Broadway. I've seen it in NYC twice and this was the perfect tribute to a wonderful show. I didn't like the actors portraying Roger and Mimi, but everyone else was great. Glad to see Tracie Thomas in the role of Joanne! Can't wait to catch the tour!

If you are a RENT fan, then this show was amazing. OF course, not as good as the OBC, but great overall. Was different to actually be able to see the expressions of the actors. If you've never had the chance to see RENT from a good seat, THIS is what you've been missing out on. I've always had to watch from seats far enough away that none of the actors' faces were discernible. What an amazing experience to see the stage as if you are actually on it! At times, the camera was so close that it felt too intimate. Emotions run high for this performance, and you'll probably cry through the entire second half if you're a fan. So much better than the film adaptation!

This filmed version of the play was so good I wish I had never seen the other film version. Seeing the play like this, stripped down to a minimal set, the characters so much more earthy in the play then the scrubbed clean movie stars in the film version, was so much more moving than the film version. If you have ever walked through the Lower East Side in NY, you know who these people are. The play gave them humanity beyond the stereotype of outcasts of society. It was beautiful. If you missed it on Broadway this is truly the ONLY next best thing. Had I not seen the movie and seen THIS version first, I would have hightailed it to Broadway to see it live. But maybe this was even better because of the close ups. Best seat in the house!

I am awestruck at its perfection. Utterly and unbelievably incredible. RENT: Live from Broadway is a piece of art. An accomplishment owned both to the extraordinary talents of the cast, musicians and spot-on camera-work and director of photography. It only took a few minutes into the title song to realize THIS was it.

If you've never seen Rent on Broadway before, this is one of your last chances. Do it. The quality of the film is really good despite being on stage. The singers sound great, too for what they have to go through every show. Don't expect the 2005 movie. Broadway is much more edgy than the Hollywood glaze-over.

I went to this movie having only seen the movie version of Rent. I have wanted to see the live version since I first saw the movie, but really couldn't afford it. I did not know what to expect when I sat down in the theater.
What I saw was amazing. The fact that they didn't changet the set at all and used the same props for almost everything was so innovative! There were some spots where the singing was not quite perfect, but given the fact that it was live and not done with take after take, it was minimal and did not affect my enjoyment of the movie.
I highly recommend this to anyone who wants to experience RENT as it was meant to be seen.... on a stage.

I watched as the movie started and from the Beginning I saw mark, start the show and He had a strong voice and started the show well. If you know the story of Rent you will love it, despite the weakness of Rogers voice it has its strong points and that alone makes it just as moving as the Original Broadway Cast, within reason, so when you watch it do not think about the OBC or you will be disappointed and miss out on the wonderful story of a Year in the life of a group of friends. The movie of the play live mostly stays true to the original show with few changes here and there. I suggest this movie to anyone who is a fan of Rent, it is also a good way to introduce someone to this long running musical.
