I've seen it live, I've seen the film, but never so up close and personal. The time, the place, it was definitely my struggle too. Took my husband - his first time to see it at all - and he loved it. To the videographers - THANK YOU. It was amazing. Please - more musical theatre......

I took my girlfriend to see this because she is a HUGE RENT fan. I liked the movie, but I found the actual production to be much more moving. I felt more of a connection and more compassion. It was astonishing. I wish it would come out on DVD because I'd buy it in a heartbeat.

I loved the movie. I agree with many of the other reviewers about the fact that you get to see the close up emotion of each of the performers. Justin Johnston....I just love him. I was disappointed that there were no added "extras" like interviews with some of the originals, or footage of outside the theater before the final performance. I feel like the fans were sort of left out. We traveled to NYC on 9/7 and stood out there for hours to catch a glimpse of the actors from across the street while sucking bus/car exhaust since they left 41st St open to traffic. We sang our hearts out in homage to the show, but were barely acknowledged. But once a Renthead, always a Renthead. I will love this show/movie forever. Thank you Jonathan.

Though it still misses the electricity that pulses from the stage through the audience of a live show, it is an excellent representation of what RENT is like live. Having seen it seven times on Bway, I guess you'd say this was filmed for people exactly like me, obsessed with the brilliance of Jonathan Larson's legendary masterpiece. I found the crystal clear vocals thrilling and tight shots of the actors a bonus you don't often get from the audience view of the stage. This LIVE filming is as good as it gets, in my opinion, in preserving this fantastic Pulitzer Prize Winning show. THANK YOU Sony & The Hot Ticket! I'll be seeing it at least one more time in the next three days!

I think it was great that they allowed fans who couldn't see the last Broadway show an opportunity to see it in movie theaters. I did enjoy the movie because the performances were solid however, I had issues with how this was filmed. Although I like getting closeup shots of the actors, I think some shots were a little too close. I also think they could've balanced out handheld cam shots with more static, zoomed-out views of the stage. FYI, I thought MTV's filming of Legally Blonde was well done. They also really should have found some way to distribute this with surround sound--the sound was pretty flat. Lastly, during the credits at the end, it would have been nice to see some "extras", like a montage of reactions from the actors' & fans.

I had a great time watching the movie yesterday. I loved the whole movie. I thought the intermission was hysterical! I love all the shots and angles on everyone. the whole performance was amazing. I cried like a baby. I want to see it again. No one was shy in the movie theatre because we were singing and clapping. I give a thumbs up!

This is such a great cast, Eden Espinosa as Maureen, and Tracie Thoms as Joanne were my two favorite. I also really liked Justin as Angel. We went and saw this same cast on Broadway 3 weeks before it closed, so seeing them live and then seeing them on the big screen was a real treat. They all are amazing performers!! I will definately buy this when it comes out on DVD!

I had seen Rent on Broadway back in 2004 after being in love with the music for years. Being a music major the points that some of the actors did not preform the songs well bothered me, (Without you in particular) yet I know from experience that doing a show can have a effect on your voice.
This is a must see for anyone who loves the musical. Do not expect the movie, sense they had a lot more to work with than what the stage can offer ... but it is a must see for anyone who hasn't seen the play and wishes to see it before their last chance is up.

I saw the movie last night wihtmy best friend. I loved it. I loved the stage show, and I loved the movie. I know, a big dork. However, I was little botherd that sometimes the syncing wasn't great, but that must have been from the fact they tapped on several days. I agree that ROGER was uhmazing.....and I loved Michael McElroy,a nd Rodney Hocks. I wasnt a big fan of Mimi until the second act, and Mark wasnt quirky enough for me. However, I loved Tracy Thomas and Eden. I just love the show, and it amazes me how after so many years it really still affects me. The audience had fun, and it was such a fun new experience. THANKS!

This film was a religious experience for me. Every time I see the show, I always get something new out of it. Last night was no exception. Even though the show has left Broadway, it is now more clear than ever that Jonathan Larson's message will live on in our hearts. The emotion is incredible, all the actors have taken the roles to new and unfathomable heights. My words can not express how great this experience was, but if are considering going to see the show, DO IT. You will not regret it, I assure you.

This was an excellent performance by an amazing cast... some of my good friends.
The cinematography was very well done, an excellent vision of how to film a Broadway show. Will Chase as Roger is sheer perfection. The only complaint I had was that the audio was not synced in SEVERAL places. This might have been an issue with the theatre, but I doubt it. It was very annoying. Also sounded as if they used autotune (pitch correction), but it's not as bad as the recent movie musicals we've seen. It wasn't too noticable for the average theatre goers, but it might bother some.
Go see it. Go see it. Go see it.

I absolutely loved this! If you haven't had the opportunity to see the show on stage, then this is the next best thing. The only really extraordinary part of this movie though, is that unlike the play, the audience gets to see close-ups and little details that they would never have seen if watching it live. The emotions are there and I never doubted for a minute that the actors were really Mark, Angel, Roger, etc. Absolutely amazing! I wish I could see it again.

I think my wife and I have become Rent snobs. Instead of just enjoying the play, we compare it to previous productions we have seen (Broadway, Philadelphia and Atlanta). To us, not one of the actors/singers was all that good -- even Tracey Thoms from the movie didn't do it for us this time around (though we liked her in the movie).
We had high hopes -- psyched to see the Broadway production again, but we were disappointed. We could not believe that cast was the best Broadway could do...
Loved seeing some of the original cast members at the end.

This was awesome to see in the theater on the big screen. Almost better than front row on Broadway- you can see every filling when someone sings. I wish the theater was more full (there were about a dozen), but maybe only because it was a Wednesday night. I HIGHLY recommend seeing this before it is gone!!
And, for those of you who don't know, RENT is going on tour! It will be here in San Diego in March of 09 starring Anthony Rapp and Adam Pascal- can't get better than that!

Like one reviewer said, you need to totally wipe out the original cast or any other cast you have seen before this one. I thought some of the cast member performances a little disappointing, but I was comparing them to the cast I saw 10 or 11 years ago when a lot of the original cast was still there. I was so happy to see Gwen Stewart back, especially for Seasons of Love.
It is brillantly filmed and you don't miss anything. I don't think you will be disappointed. You have to go see it! I hope this is released on DVD.

I anxiously awaited the presentation of HD Rent. I went to experience HD. Rent has been around for over a decade and it never interested me enough to see it in its many roadshow live presentations or the film. What a treat to see it in HD as a Broadway production. There was an audience of about 100 people in the Chinese 6 in Hollywood. Within a few minutes, it began to feel like it was like watching,a live show, only better. The advantage of the close-ups is a major turn on for me. The audience started spontaneously applauding many of the singers along with the HD audience. All in all, a remarkable entertainment experience. .

I have only seen Rent live once, an have watched the movie version several times. This version renewed my faith that the show could be brought to life on the screen. I feared that it just wouldn't come across as well filmed, but it did. It hit me in the gut with emotion repeatedly, and left me feeling just as satisfied as when I saw it in the theater. Kudos to whoever decided to film the last performance, I will continue to be grateful.

You know, as I watched this, it reminded me how much more powerful it is to SEE this story, as opposed to listening to it. Don't get me wrong, I love the soundtrack but it loses something when you cant see it. I also much prefer the stage version to the movie, as much as I like the movie. This was fantastic, and I enjoyed MOST of the cast's performances. I especially enjoyed Tracie Thoms (Joanne) and Renee Elise Goldsberry (Mimi). I really and truly recommend that everyone who is able go see this immediately, if not sooner.

This production was beautifully filmed. The sound is great, and the cast was strong.
Though there have recently been some successful movie adaptations of Broadway shows, seeing them is not the same as seeing a live performance. This managed to capture the energy and intensity of the NYC production. The show is not perfect, and I was reminded why I have never loved Rent. For every moment of stunning emotional beauty, there is another moment of superficial drek. I wish J. Larson had lived longer, so that he could have edited his show a bit better. But I am glad that we have this representation of the NYC production, and hope that we will see many more filmed versions of Broadway shows

For Rent-Heads, there will always be drawbacks to seeing Rent on the big screen vs. live. It is less powerful and the voices may not be as strong, but the big screen has close-ups, different angles; it allows you to view the live performance in a whole new way. Just as moving as live performances and Jonathan's vision is just as strong as ever. No day but today!!!

This was a wonderful production. As an avid RENT fan since it came out, I was excited to see the show filmed in its entirety, because they focused on every character. When you go to see it live, you tend to focus on the characters you like the most. This gave you a chance to look at the expressions of other characters, as well as your favorites up close. It was a good film to introduce people to RENT, without them spending a ton of money to go see the production. It also provided you a view from the best seats in the house, as well as from the wings of the stage. I had seen several of the cast members live in NYC before, and I thoroughly enjoyed the performance. It is definitely a must see if you are a RENT fan.
