My kids loved it. It's beautifully animated, it's not overstimulating, the story is kind and touching, and there was no violence or vulgar jokes. Perfect!

This was my best summer viewing experience...took my 3-year-old grand daughter to UP... I liked it-she was bored. Took her to ICE AGE...I was bored-she liked it. Saw Ponyo yesterday- we were both fascinated! The animation is stunning, the storyline was sweet and adult at the same time. It will be a true classic I'm sure.

I was captivated from the moment it opened to the end of the flim. This director makes real art, and it is a pleasure to be able to see his films in the theaters in the US. Thank you Disney for bringing it here.
A small warning, though, for parents this movie will be a bit of a culture shock if you are unfamiliar with the company that made it, and think it was made by Disney. While Disney often tries not to offend, Miyazaki does not hesitate to put his opinions out in his films, including an often heavy handed enviromental slant.
This movie might not be for you, if you do not have an open mind.

While this is not as exquisite as "Spirited Away," it is still a good movie with delightful animation and creativity. The depiction of the family of Syoshi (sp?) was warm and realistic, and even the odd marriage of the two sea creatures was loving. Ponyo's father was alarming at first, but in the end he was a father who wanted the best for Ponyo. The love of the two children for each other was sweet. I would not recommend this movie for small children, however (perhaps 6 or 7 or older). A story based on Japanese-style storytelling and spirits is more confusing than American storytelling. Adult women probably would appreciate it more than adult men, which was at least true for our group.

A lot of the reviews here complain about the underlying theme of the movie, but they miss the point entirely. Yes, Ponyo's father hates humans and is bitter about the pollution. Yes Miyazaki is somewhat to the left (his other movies would give the reviewers indigestion if this one got to them). But the whole point of the movie wasn't about blaming humans and making them evil, it was about achieving balance and unity between a mysterious and magical nature and human beings. Even Ponyo's "evil wizard" father accepted that by the end and her sea goddess mother accepted that from the beginning. It was about a child's innocence and love for a little fish who wanted to be a human. Beautifully rendered and well told.

I wasn't sure how Miyazaki would translate onto the American screen, since we are so used to mindless violence and action heroes, I came expecting something unque and was not disappointed.
The story is mature, but understandable, even for my 8 year-old. The fanciful use of potions and "magic" is in keeping with most Disney fantasies.
This movie won't appeal to everyone. I would not recommend this for kids under 5 or for those who require constant action to hold their interest (that goes for adults too).
So if you are in for a beautifully animated and thoughtful story steeped in Japanese animation, this is a great flick.

Hayao Miyazaki has done it again with Pony and I can easily recommend this film to peoople of all ages. The gorgeous animation is some of the best to ever come out of Stuido Ghibli (which really is a remarkable feat in and of itself) with excrutiating detail. The characters are also extremely likable and the voice cast was superb despite being a dub.

Miyazaki has done it again. This movie was a sheer joy to watch. It may have been, first off, the most absolutely adorable thing I have seen in a long time. I was also initially doubtful but Jonas and Cyrus actually did, in the end, come across as not only believable characters, but also very likable characters. Even though this is primarily a kids' movie, it is a joy to watch for anyone- The handcrafted art (long live traditional animation!) of the movie is simply breathtaking, and Miyazaki's imagination brings a depth to this movie that makes it insanely entertaining. Please go see this movie.

I can't believe this movie is in theaters......should be on the dollar isle at some discount store. Ponyo's Dad looks like a strung out lead singer of an 80's big hair band and the grafics stink in this movie. The story doesn't make a lick of sense. Hayao Miyazaki is truly an artiste. All doubt has been completely put aside when he unveiled his new masterpiece. Ponyo brings it to a whole new level, as has his other movies, of entertainment and captivating imagery. The movies reflects on one's perspective during childhood, toward whether experience portrays one's maturity, and much more. Definitely A movie for all ages. Miyazaki has done it again...although Disney fared somewhat acceptable in the english dub of this film.

I took my four year old granddaughter to the panyo movie this morning and left after about 20-30 minutes. Parents, that care about what your children watch, be ware. The part we saw was nothing but pure evil, scary, promoted drinking magic potions to achieve power and Panyo's dad looked like a drugged out rock star. The dad hated all humans because of all the polution. .. so all you tree huggers will love it. About ten minutes into the show, my granddaughter couldn't get in my lap fast enough, because of her fear. Several parents took their children out just before we left. This is far from the Disney, G rated movies of old.

All of you 5 of 5 star people must be seriously entertainment deprived. "Laugh out load", hardly. I smiled at 1 thing in the movie. My 5 year old somewhat enjoyed the movie but hasn't mentioned it since we left the theater so it certainly didn't leave a lasting impression. Oh, and there was only 3 people in the whole theater counting me and my daughter.

Miyazaki never ceases to amaze me with everything he does, from his beautiful coloring of each individually brilliant frame, to his absurdly creative ideas and directions for his films. Outwardly this film may look as though it was intended for an audience of a young age, but as all of his films, this is a false pretense. It offers something spectacular for people of all ages, from 5 to 85 and everything in between, to take away with a heartwarming feeling that hasn't come from a film in ages!
So, if your a long standing fan of Hayao Miyazaki, or this is the first time you've heard of him, the critics agree, this is a film you simply cant miss out on.

What a beautiful film!
Attended a midnight NYC showing, and the small audience was laughing, "awwww"-ing, and then clapping at the end for this latest gem from Hayao Miyazaki.
Of the director's films, only Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away, and Howl's Moving Castle struck me as deeply as this tale - it's among his best work. The visual style is a watery, shifting aesthetic that is hypnotic and matches the younger-audience tone of the overt story, while the subtext is as sophisticated for adults as those in Mononoke or Nausicaa.
I loved it. Miyazaki seamlessly blends reality and fantasy, prehistory and modernity, childishness and maturity, from frame to frame, and you're taken right along for the ride.

I went on a trip to Japan this summer and our tour guide showed us Ponyo during our long ride to one of our destinations. This is definitely the cutest movie ever!! After watching it, everyone on our tour scattered out to find Ponyo items. I would definitely recommend this movie for anyone to watch! The magic created by Miyazaki in Ponyo is definitely seen throughout the transitions of the scenes. This movie is about a little girl's love for someone she is not allowed to transact with and I promise you that you will not regret watching Ponyo!
