What a waste of time and money. A very bad story line. Terrible camera work. We hated most of the characters. We couldn't wait of the movie to be over. If we would not have been seated in the middle we would have walked out after an hour of suffering.

Anne Hathaway fails miserably in her first "challenging" role. A perfect demonstration of Hollywood nepotism (Jenny Lumet is the daughter of Sidney) a "name" means you don't have to know good story. As Demme says, this picture "barely has a story". 2 hours of emotional masterbation is supposed to equate a courageous journey of recovery. Jonathan, stick to documentaries for the causes you champion. Anne, stick to ingenue roles. Jenny - get out of town.

I will start with the nauseating: The camera work in the movie is a la Blair Witch Project with possibly slightly more ridiculous attempts at art. The close-ups are many, and the camera stability is non-existent through out the entire movie. I actually felt car sick about a half hour into it. As far as the content: Just plain uncomfortable for most of the movie. The people are not likable. Mostly self-centered drama queens and enablers bantering back and forth about whose life is been made worse by the other all while indulging the central prima donna's ridiculous tantrums - and hating her for them at the same time. Frustrating, depressing and just not entertainment in my book - unless you like pain

I initially thought this would be a smartly made movie about the strange antics of a young woman coming home from rehab for the first time. I was expecting a dark comedy. It turned out to be a snapshot of a family - their interactions, secrets, and inability to speak truths to one another to resolve long-standing wounds. It demonstrated both triumphs and failures within families, that love brings one another together, but does not conquer all issues. The acting was superb; a breakthrough role for Anne Hathaway. She was not the expected quirky girl l, but a character carrying the full baggage of her past, alternately in your face and repentant. However, if you had a normal, communicative family, you won't get this one.

One of 2008’s best movies. It ends with a few unanswered questions and unresolved plot lines. Immediately after watching the film, I found myself bothered by its ending. Later on, I didn’t have and issue with it after realizing I was merely looking at a snapshot of the lives of a family. The film left me with questions and made me think; putting this movie on a higher level from what’s out there now. Each and every performance from the actors is top-notch, particularly from the supporting cast. Director Jonathan Demme definitely deserves and Oscar for his ability in this film to intertwine scenes of joyfulness and acceptance with scenes filled with underlying tension and uncomfortableness. See this movie. It’s a film you won’t soon forget.

To hell with buddy-buddy movies, this is one of the most realistic and insightful films ever made about mothers and daughters (and sister and sister), even more so because the mother doesn't actually appear until half way into the film, which illustrates just how remote and distant the mother really is. Think Ordinary People meets Monsoon Wedding and this is the movie for you.

Every week I have a group of people who call me for my movie reviews because I see alot of movies. I would NOT recommend this movie. It reminded me of The Big Chill the way it dragged on and on. Anne Hathaway was good, not great, and certainly not oscar worthy in my opinion (Angelina Jolie in Changeling and even Nicole Kidman in Australia were much better). I never understand the way the critics give out their reviews, but this was not a 4 star movie in my opinion. Plus, to make matters worse, since this was a limited release movie I had to go far away to see it. If you want to see a very funny only 2 star rated movie go see 4 Christmases where we laughed out loud for most of the movie.

The movie was good and Anne Hathaway was excellent as always but it wasn't at all what I expected. Rather dysfunctional family who needs to learn the lesson of forgiveness which I don't think they ever really do. A comedy it is not. While I liked it enough, I wouldn't recommend it. Too much was left unanswered.

Ann Hathaway was great in this movie. I really liked the sister and the Dad. Other than that, boring boring boring. It was like watching home videos of someone elses wedding. I like the handheld camera, but it just went on and on, kind of like this review. Out of 15 people in the theater, 2 left and 2 went to the back of the theater, probably to make out. There were good parts, but they were few and far between.

that this movie is about. It is about her sister, played by Ann Hathaway, in a truly breakout role. I liked the slowness of the movie, but admittedly there were some flaws and some spots were a tad overdone. Weddings and family get-togethers sound romantic and nostalgic, but so often bring out our inner weaknesses, doubts, rivalries and more. That's why this movie resonated with me. Plus shedding a few tears even felt cathartic.

Added a new dimension to Anne Hathaway. Generally one to play the "cute girl", this showed her acting ability in a new light. She carried off the "family addict" very well. Also liked the use of a hand-held camera for filming. Made me feel like I was there. This story can be true for many families. You'll enjoy if you're not looking for mainstream.

I had mixed feeling about seeing this movie in the first place but having invested the time to watch it in a theater I am glad I did. Most movies are 2 dimensional, some reach a 3rd dimension and then there are a very few that get to a 4th dimension. Rachel Getting Married is one of these. Complex, emotional, psychological and not a movie that comes neatly tied in a bow. This is more like a movie jigsaw puzzle that you find yourself being drawn into increasingly to put all the pieces together only to find in the end that the box was missing a couple pieces. This frustration keeps it from being a perfect movie but still gets it a big A+ for effort! Ann Hathaway's breakout role for sure.

The only redeeming quality was Anne Hathaway's acting. Otherwise you are going to wish you weren't invited to this wedding. There isn't one character we could relate to. Even the bride has few redeeming qualities. We went back and read all of the gushing reviews in the NYT, LA Times, Roger Ebert, etc. and it just doesn't add up. I'd rather get a root canal. I second the other reviewer who said he would have left but he was stuck in the middle of the row.

This is a flawed movie about flawed people. It is refreshing to see a film that doesn't sugar coat life. Anne Hathaway's performance was excellent. The entire cast was top-notch. A movie about people skittering on the edge that doesn't try to be edgy or melodramatic. The potential flaw is in the wedding performance aspect of the movie. The movie tries to create and bring the viewer into the ambiance of a real wedding experience, with the extended cast of anonymous characters and the music and the speeches. The problem is that the viewer remains too much of a spectator; the movie fails to give the viewer an avenue to be a participant. This is where an element of boredom sets in. But definitely a movie worth watching.

Any family that has suffered the pain of the death of a child, substance abuse and dysfunction can relate to this movie. It poignantly brushes the emotions of guilt, jealously, hate, love, doubt, self-consciousness, and loss of self-esteem on a canvass of a dysfuntional family torn apart by a tragic event that occurred earlier in life. It was worth watching.

Other than the unreal amount of great music always present, everything about the movie was incredibly real - from the casting of everyday faces to the dialogue that did not always get finished and the issues that were broached but onoy half-heartedly dealth with.

What a waste fo film! It was absolutely a snoozer from the opening credits and it went down hill from there. The two people next to me left 20 minutes into the film... I was sorry I didn't follow them out. I expected much more as the rating I saw in the listings had 4.5 stars. Who posted that one? I felt "suckered". One phyco after another and the camera work was very painffull...ridiculous... it gave me a headache trying to follow it. Sorry but the soggy over-salted popcorn was gets a higher rating than the movie

I have never been so disappointed in a movie in my entire life!! I have never walked out of a movie until now!! I can't even explain how disgusted I am! Absolutely no story line!! It was a bunch of no name actors who were trying to ad-lib like pros but failed miserably!! NOT OSCAR WORTHY! I kept telling myself it would get better but it never did. There were only 8 people in the theater and four of them left Do not waste your time or money on this movie!! I wish I had read these reviews before I lost an hour of my life that I will never get back!! Seriously... THE WORST MOVIE EVER MADE!! Please believe this!!
