Kind of predictable. They could have done so much better with the characters. Steve Martin was barely funny. Alec Baldwin could have been a little deeper. Lake Bell should have been used more.
John Krasinski stole EVERY scene he was in. He was easlily the best actor in the movie.
And the whole idea about celebrating an affair didn't turn me on. Granted Lake Bell was supposed to be a b!tch, but then they show how she was hurt in the end.
The only laugh out load part was when they were all smoking weed. Other than that, I want those 2 hours of my life back.

This movie will appeal to people of all ages looking for a lighthearted yet complex story line about a topic that most can relate to. At 50+/- you will appreciate the complexity even more – ie, to the genuine feelings that are portrayed. Meryl is brilliant in her portrayal of emotions felt by people of a certain age - a sense of routine doldrums, joy of life, fear, grown children love, self- awareness, balance, fear, guilt, exhilaration, and common sense practicality. That brought the best out of Alec Baldwin's part which was more cliche but worked very well in context. Steve was intentionally underplayed but added to the complexity of the final story - well done and very deep beyond the specifics of the story.

This was a very enjoyable movie. My husband (who isn't all that much into "chick flicks") enjoyed it too. Meryl Streep is amazing - is there anything she can't do? Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin also do a great job. Lot's of funny moments balanced with a few reality spots. If you haven't seen it yet, go before it leaves the theaters.

The previews of the movie looked cute so when my husband and I finally decided to go out for a movie date (haven't seen movie together since our 2 year old was born!) we picked this one. I was so pleasantly surprised at how funny this movie was...there are some pretty hysterical scenes that take you by surprise. It's got some serious, albeit lighthearted, moments, too. I would definitely recommend this movie because it will keep you entertained the whole time. Meryl is so beautiful and "real", Alec Baldwin found his perfect role and Steve Martin is quite good in it....

Hadn't heard raving reviews so I expected it to be good, not great. Was pleasantly surprised! I loved Nancy Meyers movie "Something's Gotta Give" and as an interior designer, I was interested in this movie's set decoration, which was wonderful! Went with my husband. Laughed our a** off. we both agreed it was funny, thought-provoking, and touching. Meryl Streep is my favorite actress; she always makes her characters into real people with depth. I could totally relate to her character. Alec Baldwin and Steve Martin are not my favorite actors, but I loved them in this movie - they were perfect! Loved all the characters - all the acting was superb. I highly recommend this movie - perfect kind to discuss afterwards over coffee.

I'd heard mixed reviews of this movie, but went with my wife. We are both around the same age as the main characters - late 50s. I think that helped, since we could relate to a lot of the dialogue. A younger woman sat in front of us and left with about a half hour left in the movie. I had to see the end. The best surprise here for me was Steve Martin. Except for a short manic episode (which is hilarious, by the way), he played a serious character, and did so very well.

Not always a fan of Meryl Streep, only lately have I started to pay attention especially with Julie & Julia, she has been one of those actors that have just existed in hollywood. And, Alec well somehow he has always managed to find a way onto the silver screen. That being said, this time around they were meant for these rolls. Meryl executed the love lorn, lost, anxious ex wife left for a younger woman maiden in distress, while Alec (not that I know the guy) seemed completely himself, I think his character is almost what the guy is in his everyday life.

I'm not a big fan of this particular Mr. Baldwin, so it took reading the reviews here to convince me to give this movie a try - in addition to the fact that my wife really wanted to see it. I'm glad we did; I laughed as much or more as I have during any recent movie. I think it would be best to see this movie before seeing any previews, since the funniest scene (laptop) is part of the trailer, but that scene is still funny the second time around. Enjoy!

I thought this movie would be funny, but not as funny as it turned out to be. The bits with Streep and Baldwin were good, but throw in Martin, even funnier. Martin and Streep sharing was just hilarious and unexpected. Can't wait for the DVD to come out

The star is for John Krasinski as he's the only good thing in this movie, ok maybe the furniture and the chocolate croissants deserve a star also. I usually love anything with Meryl Streep or Alec Baldwin but this movie was probably the worst thing i've seen in ages. I don't get it. Do we think that adult female movie goers don't deserve any better than this? This and "The Departed" are now numbers 1 and 2 on my list of most over rated rubbish movies. I also have to mention how bad i thought the actors were that played the adult children, everytime one of them came on the screen i actually had to turn away so i didn't have to see them try to act - can you tell how much i disliked this movie.....

But, I was pleasantly surprised! I really loved Alec Baldwin at the start of his career but of late with the things that he says politicaly and to his daughter I have stopped watching him all together. But I laughed my butt off at this. I was surprised by the crotch grab, but really enjoyed this movie and would buy it! Loved Steve Martin, an would love to see him in alot more movies!!!
