My wife and I had seen the previews and thought it would be funny. Was it ever! We went to a matinee so most other viewers were "older" like us and the laughter at times was overwhelming. The casting was great -- the future son-in-law was perfect. An entertaining movie.

I don't go to the movies often, but am a huge Meryl Streep fan - once again she was phenomenal! Casting was perfect....we laughed through the entire movie; relationships are complicated and adults of all ages could relate to this movie but I think middle-aged people will especially enjoy it. Men beware! a major chick flick. It would be an okay rental but not quite one you want to see at theatre. The 4 to 1 women to men ratio should have given me a clue. Your wife or girlfriend will probably like the movie, mine did. I did find a couple of that parts of the movie funny which at least made it tollerable to stay in the movie with my wife. My husband and I are in the same age group as the characters in this movie and could easily identify with many things they went through. We laughed a lot and would easily see this again or even possibly buy it when it comes out on DVD. The acting is superb by both Alec Baldwin and Meryl Streep. Steve Martin is perfectly cast and does an excellent job as a nerdy architect. The children are perfect also. The script is done well and moves right along.

It was a real good movie. Enjoyed the plot and lots of funny scenes. Ending came on rather abruptly, almost like they wanted to cut to the neding quickly so edited out some part and boom the end.

It isn't often that you see a movie that just has the entire audience in stiches. I heard comments as we left like "that was the funniest movie I've seen in years"...................and it was! The actors were perfect for the part and we would recommend it to everyone!!!

The movie was witty and funny and they made a great pair - good chemistry together, however, it ended strangely. It almost felt like they cut it (edited) or cut some scenes that helped explain why their relationship (marriage) ended in the first place. I'm a sucker for a happy ending, but even still, an ending that was more evolved would have been better and would've let you leave the theatre more satisfied. To be closer to reality, you would like to understand, even with humor, why it ended the way it did.
