I own over 500 movies and have watched thousand's of movies..I can honestly say that "The Box " is the worse movie I've ever watched. I paid $24 dollars for my date and I to watch and wish I had donated this money to a charity or something.. If you have never faced a moral dilemma of astounding depths, you won't get this movie. Not since "Sophie's Choice" do I recall a movie like The Box. Both are about the dimensions of evil that can sear the soul, Nazism being blantantly so and the "opportunity to gain wealth" which is human evil trading wealth for another life which happens every day.
This is an "old fashioned" existentialist dilemma. It has considerable twists and unexpected characters (Zombies, anyone?). But maybe that is what we all are, unless we awaken to the responsibilites we have for not being so cavalier about our "it won't hurt anyone" approach to making ethical choices in our world.
It is the best serious acting by Cameron Diaz.

This movie was just plain terrible. It started slow, built a little bit of suspense which was then lost in a slow moving presentation of random disjointed mystery. It was so bad when I was in the bathroom after the movie everyone was talking about how awful they thought it was.

This great psychological thriller made you think, contained an interesting story line, had well done special effects and most importantly was about a topic not often done well in film - if ever. I can't think of a movie that has ever been anything like this one. Don't go into it expecting the story to be spelled out for you from beginning to end. You're going to have to think some - which, in my opinion, makes for a good movie.

What a dissapointment! This movie was awful. It dragged, was confusing to follow, was really weird, and overall it was one of the worst movies I have ever seen. I thought about walking out, but for my $8 I wanted to at least see if it got any better---and it didn't. It's too bad, because I think the actors did a great job acting. But the story was just too strange for me and very confusing to follow. Reminded me of something like a Twilight Zone episode. Not my type of movie.

The good thing about this movie was that it had good actors. However, the script was terrible, and the concept was worst. We were definately disappointed, and shaking our heads coming out of this movie. When people finish seeing a movie, all look at each other, and ask : "What in the heck was THAT?"... It's bad! Personally, I would suggest saving your money and seeing another movie.

I, Randall, went to go view the film "The Box" by Richard Kelly. Now before you jump to conclusions just let me say, don't walk into this movie expecting to get the facial hair scared off your upper lip. It is not a horror, per se, but more of a psychological thriller with a touch of sci-fi. You have to make sure that you are paying close attention to the story as well, or else you just may find yourself lost in the plot. I personally thought the film was great and it made me think, which is something I like in a movie. So overall "The Box" gets four out of 5 in my book. I went to see this with a few of my friends, and expected this to be a good movie. During movie i found that most the people were laughing more than being horrified. The acting was terrible. I kept hearing people around me saying that they should get there money back because it was so confusing.....There was also no need for a southern accent in the movie. I wouldnt recommend anyone, unless you want a good laugh.

I am a big fan of Donnie Darko and I did get the same feeling during this movie. Cameron Diaz was a better actress in this than anything else she's done, I'll say that for her. I actually enjoyed it. I enjoyed the creepiness and the story. If you like sci-fi and creepy.. you will appreciate it. It's not a horror movie.

My wife and I went to see this movie and were disappointed. I agree with the previous review that this movie was not even good for the "1970's". Acting was horrible, the plot was worse, and we walked out after an hour of the movie. Went to go see The Fourth Kind instead which surprisingly was much better than I anticipated. My wife and I went to see this first showing and wow what a huge mistake. The movie is set in the "70"s and feels like a "70"s movie. Poor acting and laughable plot lines at times. The Box tactfully portrayed how human emotions are the frailty of our existence and override a great deal of 'good judgement' and the repercussion associated with this weakness. An interesting parallel is that of a religious nature. If you look carefully at the decision, it is very similar to Adam and Eve. It crafts beautifully the careful and conscious decision Eve made to usher in mortality, and the bridled yoke of burden between her and Adam (regardless of fault blaming) and how they will resolve the problem that is irrevocable by their own devices. The interesting twist is the absence of a savior and the turmoil and hardship justice is for those who seek forgiveness with no one to offer it.
