Go see this film. Some of the scenes in this film equal the best scenes ever in film history. The subtle nuances in sound, lighting and absolutely in the acting in the film really raise this film head and shoulders above all the other films that I have see this year. I've seen all of them to this date. Great film and, on a side note, if you have ever gone to Catholic School in the 50's or 60's they pretty much got it right. Although I have to say, there were definitely not any nice nuns where I came from. Meryl is fantastic as is Hoffman! Idon't do five stars, but I give it in this case. Great Film!

Not as gripping as the play but still very good. I'd rate the acting as uniformly excellent but the story, especially the ending, as good but not as great as the play

The excellence of the play-based script and the actors, Streep and Hoffman, is enough reason to see this move. Viola Davis deserves special mention and proves there are no small parts. The negatives are all the usual ones expected when translating a made for stage play into a movie. Unfortunately, Shanley overplays the ' visuals rain storms etc. that threaten to turn an otherwise realistic portrayal into a gothic caricature.

Streep will win the Oscar for her performance as the very terrifying Sister, convinced of her moral correctness and determined to destroy all who stand in her way. Hoffman is brilliant, too. Supporting cast is marvelous also. I found it gripping and fascinating. Would definitely recommend this one.

"Doubt "delivered...doubt. If you like certainty and everything is black and white in your world see this one and your world will seem silly. Great acting accompanied with story that left me with many questions (as life usually does).I can imagine this one not being everyone's cup of tea though.

See this well-acted movie if you are over 21, enjoy complex, historical morality tales and enjoy seeing Streep, Hoffman and Adams at the top of their game. This is not a "perfect movie" (as if such a thing exist....) but on the strength of the acting alone by the top 3 leads it gets my 5 star rating. While I never attended Catholic school I was 11 years old in 1964 which is the time the film is set in. I have a feeling that the older you are the more you will appreciate this movie and all of the intertwining nuances. See it for the acting more than the story.

It's hard to criticize great acting like we get from Meryl Streep, but the script never gets to the point that it's gripping. Philip Seymour Hoffman has definitely done better acting in better parts. At times it felt like he was phoning it in. (I had seen Milk a week earlier, and Sean Penn is a hard actor to follow.) Amy Adams is quite good in a role that is not overly demanding. The action doesn't lag, but it hits a wall at the end. I'm not sure if this is a real-life story, but the ending seemed extremely contrived.

Thought provoking, multi-layered and intense story with incredible acting all around. Hoffman's priest is engaging and enigmatic and keeps you searching for clues to his guilt or innocence.
