loved the movie. I grew up in Catholic schools, so I could relate. Besides that, the acting was top notch across the board. yes, some minor holes in the script, but a very close to perfect movie. The performances really stood out. PMH and MS were sensational. I highly recommend the film. Youngsters though, will not be interested in this film as much.

The acting was great. I grew up in the era of going to a Catholic school and I am very angry at the sexual abuse in the church. One of the priests, when I was going to school, was one of the priests who abused the boys. So, this movie was good and I felt he was guilty. It was well done, dialog and directing, showing expressions and change of behaviors was well done.

I always expect excellence from Meryl, but part of me thinks she missed the mark in this one. It has nothing to do with the fact that she played the role in a more toned-down fashion than Cherry Jones; in fact, I quite liked the decision. However, when it got to the end of the film, I sat there a little annoyed. It is not that it ended in unresolved, because I like unhappy endings, but something about her performance in that last scene left me a little dry. It is weird to say that because the woman is obviously a genus, but perhaps she missed the mark this time. PSH and Amy Adams were terrific, and I would say that overall, the movie was fantastic.

The unanimous consensus seems to be that the acting in this movie is absolutely fantastic and I concur. Compelling acting! The only problem for me is that there were gaping holes in the script. For example, did the teacher notice alcohol on the kid's breath BEFORE he was called into the rectory by the priest? If not, the priest was clearly lying. Seems like an obvious question to ask, but I guess it would have ruined the whole storyline theme of "lack of resolution." Also, why did the priest's general demeanor change so dramatically as the movie went on? And why didn't anyone bother to ask the kid what actually happened? Makes no sense...

The acting in the film is superb. I wish it had been a longer film--how often do you say that! I think that the restraint shown in the film was the same restraint shown at the time that the movie was set. This film sheds a lot of light on a time that is not so far in the past. The performances were outstanding - I mean, Meryl Streep how can you do any better! Amy Adams was a perfect pick to go up against this tough nun, Phillip Seymour Hoffman was great as well and Viola Davis in her brief time in the film gave a great performance! Authentic in every respect.......for us who grew up with Sister Mary Sunshine looking over our shoulder....the feeling is there, the look of the school, the demeanor of the actors....all right on....Meryl Streep is great but Amy Adams steals the film when she stands up to Streep....bet that didn't happen to often in real life....Bless me Father but I still have doubts.

I thought this movie had wonderful performances in each scene. Streep never disappoints me on the screen. Amy Adams was believeable and Philip Seymour Hoffman did a good job. Viola Davis was outstanding in her brief performance. The movie was mildly intense and while it was dealing with an uncomfortable topic, this topic did not overshadow the performances relating to doubt, in itself. Strong opening and closing scenes.

The play was much more powerful. Sister Aloysius as played by Meryl Streep is overly stereotypical - a little over the top. Philip Seymour Hoffman is miscast as Fr. Flynn - too lascivious. Ron Elgard who played him on Broadway brought a youthful freshness to the role. Amy Adams, as always, was tremendously sweet providing a balance to Streep's tyranical portrayal.

Just watching Meryl Streep in that habit with her pursed lips and squinty eyes makes this one worth the price of admission. The screen adaptation of the stunning Pulitzer Prize winning play doesn't disappoint. The pleasure of this play/movie is that the audience is left to uncover the layers of doubt that exist in this church and its constricted population of pious nuns and priest who....well, you have to see the movie. I think this must have been a better stage play than a movie. I has all the hallmarks of the Theatre with a capital 'T' - scenery chewing, unresolved conflict, miserable people trying to muddle through miserable lives. Why do all Oscar bait movies have to be so serious and muddled? Can't an Oscar performance ever be happy? Viola Davis deserves her nomination - it takes guts as an actress to let herself be that pitiful on screen. But the rest I could have waited for video to see. And it probably was better on Broadway.

A very good flick that creates intense drama from a flood of innuendo. Any kid who attended parochial school in the '60's will recognize these characters! But, the ending is a bit of a discord -- of course she'd be confident in her decision. Doubtful Nuns? May be now but not then!

This movie was strong, and dramatic. The subject matter was covered gracefully, yet coherently. I really enjoy a movie that engages you to pay attention to details. The direction was awesome. This movie has very little “action” in it. It is all dialogue and situations. The writing makes you relate to each character’s situation. The Director has you trying to figure it out. I left the film questioning everything. Excellent. I especially enjoyed the authenticity of the school, church, uniforms of the children and clothing of the characters. My children attended parochial school at one time and I felt as if I was watching a documentary rather than a movie.

It's hard to not like a movie with the cast of characters in Doubt. The story was very well adapted from the play, however it is a bit slow and drags at times. Meryl Streep was fantastic and the story was one that, well...left you with doubts.

The acting in this film is outstanding. Aside from being what I think this is an accurate depiction of some of the conflicts that must have gone on in that era, this movie is an amazing character study. I found myself wondering who the antagonist and protagonist were until the final confrontation. I guess this would qualify the plot and execution of the movie riveting. I highly recommend this movie, first, as just a darn good movie and, second, as an insight to Roman Catholic church politics and the struggle with clerical authority prior to Vatican II.

As expected the acting was superb. The movie was fast paced, not one slow moment. The best part is there being no clear and easy easy answers at the end. Everyone has a different impression of whether he did it or not. Excellent movie, a definite must see.

Meryl Streep is starched and venemously bitter in her role as Sister Aloyisous. The absence of makeup makes her appear even more doggedly determined to get Father Flynn. Philip Seymour Hoffman is a great Father Flynn. Viola Davis' cameo performance as a student's mother will leave you amazed. The question that weaves throughout this well crafted film is, who is telling the truth. The use of weather to introduce themeatic changes is a bit staged, but all in all a great piece of work.
