Although this movie DID have some good moments... over-all, I was disappointed.
This is another example of great story, bad movie. It is as if the director couldn't decide if this movie was for adults or kids, so the adults are left feeling like they are watching some sort of dark disney movie gone wrong, and the kids see too much graphic violence.
Go see this one at the dollar theater with your 14 year old son, He would LOVE it.

This movie was a fairly decent movie. The characters played the parts well. However I was a bit disappointed. I expected more action than was delivered. Was a great movie for younger population (tweenagers & teenagers). In all I give the movie a thumbs half up. Glad I saw it but wont purchase on dvd.

To me, who is not a vampire devotee, I would call this movie a darker version of Shark Boy and Lava Girl. I went alongside my husband, and we were both disappointed. Please do not take your children under 13 to see this movie. My 11 year old, who is pretty mature, would have been grossly bothered by many of the images in this movie. A complete and confusing mix of a childrens movie with very graphic adult special effects. It was a very predictable, generic vampire story with the "freak show" gang as the "twist?" Not my cup of tea.

I was really excited to see this movie, alot of the scenes from the trailer weren't even in the movie. The editing was horrible and this really should have been released on the Family Channel for the 30 days of Halloween or something like that.
I want to seen more of the story though, hope they make another one, even if it's straight to DVD.

Great actors and acting. Not a fast paced action thriller. It is an entertaining approach for a teen and young adult crowd. Doesn't play down to it's audience. It relates to them. Great special effects, make up, and costuming .

It was alright I guess, but I couldnt escape the feeling that they decided to make the movie from the book series now instead of any other time to milk money out of the Twilight-induced vampire fad while they still can. I guess I'm biased, but I really hate it when they make a movie simply to jump on some bandwagon. That fact alone tarnished the movie for me. But I'm sure people who watch it with an open mind will enjoy it for what it's worth....its a fun movie for any occasion.

Although not in the top 2 at the box office, and killed by the critics (overpaid retards that wouldn't know a good movie if it bit them), I thought that this movie was what I wanted. I was pleasantly surprised by this movie. I thought the casting was excellent. I went to see it with 2 friends, and we all enjoyed it.
I liked the touches of intelligent humor and mature cynicism. A lot of the characters were intriguing, especially the wanna-be musician "snake boy" and the villainous "Mr. Tiny". Mr.T was both elegant and genuinely creepy, like Voldemort grew up and gained weight. (And maybe produced the snake boy after getting drunk with Salma Hayek's character.?)
I especially liked the absence of nauseating teen romance goo. Compared to Twilight, this one wins hands down.

I took my little sister to this movie (she's 14). We had no idea it was based off of a book series until the opening credits. I have no idea how it compares to the books but as a movie we both thought it was pretty fun. I thought the casting was good, the plot was interesting and it kept my attention throughout. I thought all of the characters were well done; I really enjoyed the performances of all the actors. I thought the little guys in the brown robes looked a little too much like Golem from LOTR and would have enjoyed them more if I wasn't constantly reminded of the other movie. But, my little sister and I will definitely see the sequel and I'd recommend the movie to my friends.

I like John C. Reilly and Ken Watanabe as character actors. Their abilities combined with the original vampire/monster/freak plot we were "teased with" in trailers had me "geeked a bit" I admit for this movie. While the movie is worth seeing (for just those reasons) my expectations were not met. The potential was certainly there. The first 45 minutes were A+. The movie loses some steam midway through and drags even a bit more at the end. Too long by 15 minutes. Editing should have been tighter and crisper. Overall - a worthy effort and fun.

When I went, there were more adults than children. I went with my 12 year old son who has read all of the books. For someone who knew nothing about the series, I was able to follow and thought it was a very good movie. I actually can't wait to see if they come out with another one from the series! Effects excellent, Acting really well done. Much better than I expected. 3.5 - 4 stars. Just good entertainment. No smut, no language, well controlled violence. Leaves you looking forward the next one. You can take the family to this one but leave the little ones home.

I read the books when I was younger and fell in love with them. And the movie was great. It had good humor and action. It should have a sequel considering there are 12 books in the series and this was the first 3 books. Worth seeing in theaters. I've seen it twice so far. This movie was pretty good. I laughed a few times and really enjoyed the whole movie. There was enough action to keep my friend and I excited for the whole movie. The ending was left a little too open for my taste though. Unless there is absolutely, no doubt about it going to be a sequel then they really made a mistake there.

I went to see this movie with ambivalence, but I LOVED IT!!! It was funny, moving, scary, exciting...totally worth the price of admission. It's a great movie for kids, men, women, everyone!
