Great story telling. Shows the romance of not only his relationship with Billie, but romanticizes the life of a bank robber. In the end you want him to be successful and live, but you know he won't. Good drama, not meant to be portrayed as an action flick.

I was very disappointed with this film. Based on the interviews I have seen and read from Johnny Depp I thought this film was going to go much deeper into the character of John Dillinger. I was anticipating a movie the caliber of Goodfellas, but with Depp's awesome talent. the camera angles were very distracting. when the camera is so close to Johnny's face, that I can see every one of his pores, it's time to back it up! I had high hopes for this movie, considering the era in which the movie is set. There were many disconnects from the time period. Plus I couldnt stop seeing Johnny's ear piercings, which could have been covered up. The movie was a big all over, but considering this was a Michael Mann movie, this was typical. I really enjoyed this film on many levels. It was historically fairly accurate and well written. Johnny Depp was mesmerizing as Dillinger. Some of the other cast members were downright scary. Christian Bale was severe as Purvis but had a small hint of humanity. J.Edgar Hoover was totally believable and a complete nut job. I would recommend this movie to people who enjoy action and a good story.

The John Dillinger story has been re-made several times by Hollywood and this one is better than a couple of the others I have seen. Without diving into too much detail this story does share more of the FBI side of things and how eventually they would get Dillinger. It also shows you how the law's worked back then. Johnny Depp did a great job getting across the complexity of John Dillinger.

It kept you on the edge of your seat the WHOLE time; it also was a good history lesson. I did not know ANYTHING about John Dillinger; when I came out of the movie theatre, I was better informed. It also helps when you have a fiance that is a history buff; he filled me in on some facts about Dillinger's case.

I really enjoyed this movie a lot. I find this period of American history riveting, and I had read that they were extremely faithful to the facts, so that made it even more interesting to me
I also had read that the camera work was jerky, and I'm extremely sensitive to that (I can't stand the Bourne movies for that reason) but this movie didn't bother me at all. Some of the hand-held shots were so realistic feeling that I felt like I was standing right in the middle of the action, but I never found it nauseating.
I do have to admit though that I had a hard time telling people apart, especially in the action scenes. There are only so many white guys with fedoras that you can easily distinguish at a fast pace.

My most anticipated Summer film lets me down. I expected a good gangster flick, but what I got was a remake of Heat set in the 1930's Chicago. Just like Heat, both leads perform the best they can based on the writing & directing. Just like Heat, the stars only have one scene together. And, just like Heat there is a great shoot out. I though this would be a great movie for the big screen, but the Chicago settings just didn't look that grand. A caveat to the review, my wife really enjoyed the love story with Johnny and Billie. On a scale of $10, I would give it $6. For home watching, I won't be buying the blu-ray, but will watch it again on HBO.

I have to agree with most all of the reviews that I have seen, though how this one got a 74% approval rating I don't know. I guess there are just that many "shoot'em up" types still out there who got excited by this pic. As far as period pieces, ya gotta give kudos to the prop man. This was researched to the max and well planned out, but the actors don't live up to the message, if there was one. Perhaps it was just a bad choice as far as bad guy biographies. the Marquis De Sade had already been done...
I got stuck on the front row of the theater, so I am not the best person to trust on reviews, but this was a guy flick, particularly, a "just back from the war" or "redneck guy" flick.

It was a period piece, the action was short and sweet. It followed both Christian Bale and Johhny Depp equally, and it was good. Can't think of another movie to compare it to off the top of my head but it went at a decent pace. There were a couple parts that made the audience laugh/frown at the police. I would not recommend if wanting an action movie but for a life story/period piece movie.

Johnny Depp was absolutely in his element, here. He is so versatile. I was convinced he was really John Dillinger in the movie. Marion Cotillard was beautiful and convincing, also.

I liked the movie, but I did think they should have done more background building up to the part the movie started. He gives about a 10 second speech about how he ended up being the way he was. There isn't any character relationship build up either. I've read books about him and knew who the other guys where, but if you hadn't read anything, I think it would be confusing. Johnny Depp and Christian Bale are always good in anything they are in. It was worth going to see, I just would have liked a little more information.

Movie was too drawn out and really had no story to it. Just a bunch of people shooting each other with no good story to tell! BORING!!!!!!!

Superb acting, Wonderful photography takes one into the 1930s era of the Chicago Gangsters. I thought I knew the story, but most was new to me. The only thing that bothered me was trying to keep track of who was a "good guy" and who a "bad guy." With the dress of the day, long coats and fedora hats, it was hard to keep the gangsters apart from the FBI agents. Along the same lines, I had trouble identifying who got blasted away in the intense gun fights. Was Baby Face Nelson killed? Oppps, guess not, as he shows up in the next scene alive. (I think). All in all, a great thriller that might gather some awards, but not the top ones, imho.
