I love gangster flicks! Godfather and Goodfellas are the cream of the crop, but this film is right up with some of the best, like Scarface, Carlito's Way, and Donnie Brasco. This movie had the right amount of guns and violence. It even had high drama as well, and I especially liked the ending and the message it sends, that crime is a hard way to live and die!

Johnny Depp's performance is workmanlike in this graphically violent and long gangster tale. There were parts of the film that really inspired/moved me and others that left me really flat....had the acting not been as good, I think my review would be horrid, but it's not.....there is something 'up' with the script, I just haven't figured out what it is. A fantastic portrayal by Johnny Depp, exactly what you expect from him. The characters were strong, and the love story managed to stay in the forefront even though it was not often on screen. This movie is definitely about the men more than the events, and while it lacked a little in the insight you would have liked to see in some of the peripheral characters, it will reel you in. I enjoy all the nostalgia. But the movie was too slow moving. Thought the portrayals of the characters were good but it was difficult to follow who was who. Other than Depp all the other guys blended in together and their characters weren't developed throughly. I would definitely wait for it to come out on DVD rather than see it at the theatre.

I was disappointed by the movie. Johnny Depp and the lady playing his girlfriend were fantastic. Christian Bale was TERRIBLE. Chritian's tough guy with the accent was just not believable. This movie was about John Dillinger, but if his surrounding characters had been more developed, it would have been even better. Had huge expectations for this movie. The cinematogrophy is simply true to the 1930's and beautiful. The end of the movie is true to the biography and amazing capturing the moment. But, overall the whole of the movie is quite dull and they don't let you know who the characters are. Consistently throughout the whole movie there are men running all over the place and I have no clue what their importance is or who they even are. A little bit of a snoozer, would like more depth, should've waited for this movie to come out on dvd instead of wasting money at theatre.

Too long; too slow-moving. Plenty of style but little substance. None of the characters were fleshed out. Depp did his best. Bale was (as usual, IMO) horrible. Plenty of machine-gun shoot-outs, if you like that, but far from a Hollywood "action movie", so if you're looking for that you'll be disappointed. You'll also be disappointed if you're looking for a character study or an interesting plot. The use of HD and hand-held camera work was dizzying at times. I was ready to leave half-way through.

Johnny Depp continues to be my fav actor, he had a great preformance in this movie. Its hard to make a movie about a historical moment, everyone already knows the ending. They did a great job making this movie, I luv'd it and others will too.
