Ok, I know people think Johnny Depp is hot, and he does do a nice job acting, when you can hear him. Whoever edited the sound for this movie sucked! The gun shots were really loud but often you could not hear what was being said. The plot was so chpped up and the characters were not well definied, sometines you couldnt tell who was on the screen talking, outside of Depp and his girl...Plus, some of it was just over the top, I am pretty sure there is nothing in the history books about Dillinger walking through the police headquarters unfazed. Overall, I cant recommend spending full movie price for it, wait til it goes to the cheap show or DVD, on demand.

The cinematography and acting were amazing. John Depp was very believable as Dillinger. The portrayal of the FBI was very different from what I expected but interesting. I would definitely recommend this to my friends!

I expected the movie to be a lot more intense and fast-paced, but it moved slower than anticipated. There were also few historical inaccuracies, but nothing major. Overall I enjoyed it. The acting was really good, the soundtrack was cool. Go see it.

I have grown up with stories of Dillinger and the 30s. Johnny Depp and Michael Mann nailed this movie in everyway. The authenticity of details was fantastic. A great view of the Depression era and it's antihero. This one should give Johnny Depp an Oscar nomination the voters will take serious and reward him for this fine piece of work. I will see it multiple times.

If you like gangster movies, historical movies etc, this is your movie - if you are looking for non stop action go see Transformers2. The movie story could have been better if they spent some time introducing the characters bios, and painting a picture of what life was back in the 1930's. Slow at times, the movie picks up halfway and gets really good at the end.

Even with all the ear splitting guns fights, that didn't help the plot line. Was slow moving in that area & it was very hard to tell just where they were, in Chicago, WIsconsin - where ? I wanted to know why,when & where Dellinger started his life of crime - NOPE, movie justs jumps in figuring you already know. Of course Johnny was good but I found his man liner to be distracting. Not sure why Christian Bale bothered to be in this movie. His role started out great & went downhill from there.

Parts of this movie were filmed in our hometown, so it was neat to see those on the big screen. However, it did not follow history very close at all, and the cinematography was very poor. At times the photography almost seemed too modern without the filters to give it the historical look, and it didn't seem like the cameraman's hand was too steady. It definitely was not worth the effort to go see it on opening night. Johnny Depp could have better utilized his talents on other movies!

As is expected of Michael Mann, the gunfights were top notch with great sound effects and lots of fire. As someone who holds great interest in John Dillinger and 1930s gangsters, I must say Michael Mann's dedication to accurately portraying the Dillinger arsenal is exemplary. Michael Mann is a gun-nut's director.
The acting was great. The actor playing J Edgar Hoover really showed how Hoover would bypass moralities and anything else in order to catch his targets and gain respect among the government for his still-tiny Bureau... and how much of a jerk he was. Johnny Depp and Christian Bale are great in the movie.
However, the movie opens with the death of Pretty Boy Floyd - Floyd was killed 4 months AFTER the death of John Dillinger.

Time for Michael Mann to go to his chalet and rest on his Laurels. . The editing was hard to digest and the cinematography was convoluted at best. Johnny Depp was probably told exactly what to do and therefore when he did it, the movie lost his presence. This movie had the same spirit in it as "Godfather 3" ........ lots of decorations but no Christmas tree. Finally.. the movie was NOT horrible...Mondane and predictable.. miscast a lot.. Johnny in particular.. I kept seeing him as Hunter Thompson in this movie. Brolin might have been the better choice. but I digress. Marvin Purvis with Bale driving was not believable to me. And the thugs all looked like Pansies... oh well.. I'm in a small town in the midwest so.. it only cost me $6.25

I might be biased because a couple of my friends are extras, but I think this is a great movie. Johnny Depp did not disappoint in any way. He really made Dillinger's character his own and brought him to life. Outstanding acting throughout by everyone. There were a few somewhat gruesome scenes, but that's to be expected of a movie about bank-robbing gangsters. Nothing sugar-coated here...a most believable portrayal of the ruthlessness of Dillinger and those in desperate pursuit of him. A must see.

This movie makes Sweeney Tood look like it was written by Rogers and Hammerstein! For a period piece, there were problems for myself and wife. The opening sequence was good and looked like a good movie. No close emotional attachement developed. Towards the end I didn't care about the final fall of Dillinger. The musical selections occasionally used actual music that would be found from the early 30's. If you're interested in feeling like the time is pre-WWII 1933 this movie did not reach that for us. Some of the cinemagraphic appearance looks as if you took a camcorder and shot it yourself. I've watched a lot of the classic James Cagney, Edward G. Robinson movies of the time and this felt like a simulation.

This was not what I expected - I expected a little swashbuckling, swaggering attitude, some humor and glitz mixed in with harsh reality. This was not sugar coated it was not glitzy and it was not charming - But it was moving, horrifying in parts, a strange love story at times, probably closer to reality than most of these types of movies. Johnny Depp does not protray Dillinger - he becomes Dillinger. At the end everyone left in silence - mixed emotions I'm sure - this is a must see movie.

I am a huge Johnny Depp fan. I also like Christian Bale, outside of his ill mannerred personal life. When I chose to go see this movie, it was with the understanding that they would both at least do something interesting. Well, I was wrong. Neither one of them did anything worthy of note. I found it compelling that this is a Michael Mann movie, and it therefore has a great deal of promise. While Heat was charged and fast moving, this movie drug along to the eventual end of the movie and the end of Dilinger. RIP for both...2 1/2 hours I will never get back.

This movie was very good. The characters were very engaging and the viewer developed definitely a love or hate for the characters, depending on who it was. The plot was deep and thought provoking, and allowed you to relate to times in your own life. all the actors were fantastic, especially Johnny Depp.
However, it was a good half hour too long.
Definitely go see it, it was an awesome movie and worth your time.

Mollie, I'm with you, this was a disappointing film. I may have to see it again but to me it was boring and did not advance my knowledge of any of the characters. I would say that other than watching Johhny Depp for 2 hours, which is not hard to do, there was no reason to make this movie. it didn't add anything to the public discourse on the subject. What motivated him? How did he get like that? No questions answered...See it just to see Johnny, otherwise, save your money.

I was a little disappointed with the pace of the film however it succeeded in running the gamut of my emotions. I laughed, I cried, I was horrified and angered. I do not know the extent of the accuracy of the film but I am not easily taken in by what I see on a movie screen therefore it's ability to move me to tears, laugh and be emotionally caught up in it says the movie was well acted. Despite the slow pace the movie is a go see. I went on a night when the extras from the film were there wearing their period costumes and it gave a little charge to the atmosphere in the theater.

Very disappointed in this movie. Very poor character development. I knew little to nothing about any other characters other than Dillinger. The storyline was all over the place and hard to follow. This movie never answered any of my why questions.

If you are a fan of Michael Mann, you will appreciate his style in this film. It didn't have quite as much of his visual stylings, but you will notice a few of his trademarks. Good characters, nice blend of drama and laughs, and of course, his trademark gun battles.

Worth seeing many times over. The action is great, and it was cool to finally see it since 2 of the robberies were film right here in Oshkosh, WI. I recommend it to any Depp, or gangster era fan.
