It was good, but not great. there was not enough of a story about Dillon -- which is great, and I think way more just shooting and blood. A lot was left out that should have been put in the movie to make it better. Johnny Depp is great, no matter what movie he is in. He gave it the great that was in it and I would see it again. He looks great in the suits =-)

Public Enemies, is a downright Good movie-it is not a great movie. The acting is excellent. John Depp as John Dillinger. His acting is flawless, Christian Balle, as Melvin Purvis is almost perfect. The only problem; with this movie; it tries so hard to focus on the time in History, it missed the era?? It did'nt focus at all on the Depression, or his relationship with his father. "Side note" Dillinger introduced Billy, as his Wife to his father! Well worth the Money!!!

i loved this movie. it was incredible and didn't even feel like a 140 minute movie. johnny depp was amazing, he portrayed dillinger incredibly. plus part of the movie was filmed in my hometown and i've been to many of the other locations where they filmed so it was cool to see the final result after watching the process.

Public Enemies is a great disappointment. The film is just too long. (I was ready to shoot Dillinger towards the end, just so I could leave.) The handheld camera work was way over done as well. Every scene was shot in some sort of closeup. It was hard to watch at times. With that being said, I thought the cast was on the money. C. Bale is wasted here. Depp is Dillinger.... The locations, clothes, cars were tremendous. In short, everything about this movie was great except the film direction... Mr. Mann, you blew it! What a shame.....

I just wanted to see how JD would pull this off because he is such a great character actor. Tom Hanks- Road to Perditionand even Bruce Willis pulled the "Gansta role off. What went wrong with this film was that you could not identify with any cahracter- good or bad. What was the point of throwing in Pretty Boy Floyd or Baby Face Nelson, or Frank Nitty if they don't add any muscle to the film. What can I say, i spent my $$, keep yours in your pocket and go to the Taste.

One of the best of its genre in many years, Public Enemies is almost a transport back in time to the great films of the 40s. Depp's performance is so intricate and nuanced it mesmerizes you from the outset. You find yourself glued to his eyes as they provide so much of the underlying messages of the character. There is no Johnny Depp in this performance, it is all John Dillinger to the point that you forget who the actor is. My one complaint is that the soundtrack in the theatre I saw it in was strangley botched with dialog almost impossible to hear in the beginning, though it improved as the film went on. I think this one will become a classic and I plan on seeing it again as there is much more to get from it.

Johnny Depp put his heart into this role showing how great of an actor he is. He shows his emotions and strengthens in the different events of John Dillinger's life. Excellent film for anyone that wants to learn about John Dillinger and see him portrayed the way he should be on film. Christian Bale is superb in his role as the determined FBI agent tracking Dillinger. A must see for anyone who loves history!

Public Enemies does a good job of visually taking you back to the look of the 1930's era. The actors do a nice job with what they're given to do.
The weakness here is that this is a very plot-driven movie, with little insight into Dillinger, his gang, or even the dogged FBI agent pursuing him. They also barely mention the ongoing hardships of the Depression of the time, which certainly played a role here in this story.
For die-hard Depp or Bale fans, or fans of the Tommy gun, you'll likely enjoy it anyway.

This film was wonderful to look at, especially with the likes of Johnny Depp, Christian Bale, and Marion Cotillard on the big screen. Fabulous cinematography, wonderful costumes...The pace was a bit slow for my taste.
One of the film's highpoints came at the end when the Public Enemies' audience was watching the audience of Manhattan Melodrama...Kinda cool how Michael Mann crafted it.

I was expecting greatness based off of the previews I had seen. I was greatly disappointed. Johnny Depp put on an amazing show, but the characters were hard to get attached to and the movie was too long and quite frankly, a little boring. The main reason I saw this movie was to see Johnny Depp as Dillinger so, naturally, I was not disappointed. He effectively conveyed the reputed charisma and grace of Dillinger and provided a strong rooting interest, particularly when played against the typically stiff Christian Bale.
Spoilers follow. Historically the problems begin with the opening scene and the killing of Pretty Boy Floyd which, regardless of the debate of who actually shot Floyd, happened months after the death of Dillinger even though Dillinger/Depp references the killing. The film also has Baby Face Nelson being killed during the escape from Little Bohemia. This did not happen and, much like Floyd, Nelson died months after Dillinger.

Wonderful - animalistic action romance... and you can't forget the touch of classic comedy amazingly placed throughout the film... this is definitely a film to see. Depp and Marion had amazing chemistry, and Depp knew how to make you hate him to the point of breaking... but right at that point he pulls you back on his side... a different actor might have broken this film. There's alot going for it. Bale also having an amazingly subtle performance. Crudup and Stephen Graham are amazing with their character's dialects... and the action is very vivid and real. The machine gun fights rang Iraq war in my ears, and the slaps and punches in this film were literally shocking... Come see Public Enemies! It will be worth it!

Not surprisingly, Johnny Depp shines in a truly deep and complex character, but he is supported by fine acting from Cotillard and Bale as well. The cinematography is interesting, giving the film even more of the 30s look than just sets and costumes, but don't sit too close or you'll feel nauseous. Excellent movie, mixing psychological with action instead of just a bunch of gansters committing crimes.

This movie is excellent. I plan on seeing it again and again. Johnny Depp is perfect for the part of Dillinger. He has you on the edge of your seat one minute, laughing the next and crying in the end. Only Johnny Depp could make you love a gangster! Christian and Marion are also perfect for their roles in the movie. The fashion, sets and locations were absolutely beautiful and very fitting for this period film. Way to go Michael Mann!

This is an excellent film. Johnny Depp does a wonderful job conveying John's displeasure with the banking system and politics of the 1930's Depression-not unlike today. As John's Dad said, "John is a loving and respectable man who could be a good citizen." It is amazing to see how corrupt and ruthless J. Edgar Hoover's FBI was at that time. Much of the film was shot on location-Crown Point, Indiana-Little Bohemia Lodge on Spyder Lake, Wisconsin-and at the Biograph Theater in Chicago. It is a wonderful historical motion picture, and I had the honor of seeing it along with about 30 of John Dillinger's remaining family still living in Mooresville and Indianapolis, Indiana. God Bless John Dillinger, may he rest in peace.

This was a great movie. It captured all of the key moments of Dillinger's life in the 1930's and was played very well by Johnny Depp.

Great film - all action, the time went fast. I loved that all you see is the story line (great period detail) and that without a lot of dialogue to distract from the fast pace the intimate personal information about the principal characters is clearly communicated.
Of course I am seeing it again, soon!

Good flick if you want lots of action without a lot of plot development. I was expecting the relationships between caractors to be more interesting. I would recommend renting it for a few bucks, but not paying 10 a person to go to the movies.

This was a great movie visually, clean and uncluttered from the typical Hollywood blockbuster style. At first you are wary and then you are pulled into John Dillinger's life and times. Excellent.

I was somewhat disappointed in Depp's performance. His character was overly constrained and communicatively transparent compared to the articles I have read about John Dillinger. I also felt that some of the action scenes were simply unbelievable, more suited for a Sci-fi thriller, e.g., the "shoot-out" at the lodge in Manitowish Waters, WI. Period detail and blending with current events was excellent. J. Edgar Hoover's character resembled a comic book portrayal of him. Worth seeing, but I will be surprised if it receives any nominations.

Movie was excellent ~ Went with 2 other couples and all of us thought the acting was great, they got enough of everything in to really make it something everyone would enjoy. Johnny Depp has never looked beter and he played Dillinger to perfection! ** Some people had told me who saw it earlier that my 9 year old would be fine seeing it.... So happy that I did not take him. Do NOT recommend it to children! There is nothing for anyone at least under 16 to get from this movie!
