I took my wife to see this movie and we both laughed so hard through many parts of this movie "as did many other's in the theatre". This is a great movie for both male and female. As we were driving away from the Theatre my wife told me she wanted to go see it again, and so I asked her when she would like to, and she replied "NOW"!

I went with my boyfriend to watch it the day it came out and we are both comedy fanatics. We just expected a couple laughs here and there for entertainment. It turned out that this movie was the most that I had ever laughed in a movie theater. In my opinion, this is the first movie that is a comedy romantic that is made for men to enjoy that is not too sappy and lovey-dovey. I would recommend this movie to EVERYONE who is old enough to watch a rated R movie.

"The Ugly Truth" is offensive, insulting and salacious. The women who wrote this trash should be ashamed of their portrayal of a female character who on one hand they try to sell as smart and sensible, but who follows ridiculous advice and debases herself. I thought this movie was extremely funny. Yes, it's very raunchy, but there is definitely some truth to the tale. I've actually seen it more than once and I know from the audience reaction that I was not the only one that found it entertaining. The audience laughed throughout and I thought it was telling that much of he laughter was from the men in the audience. This is not your typical rom/com. Katherine Heigl is beautiful and Gerard Butler is charming/handsome. I think they had great chemistry, so what more could you want?

Unlike a lot of people I actually enjoyed this movie. I payed attention to the preview and sawthat this movie would be about a high-strung woman who met an obnoctious man who preached manliness when in reality he was a total softy but was afraid to be hurt once more like he had been in the past.
I admit that the movie was a tad bit predictable towards the end, but it was still quite hilarious.
If you don't enjoy some guy humor and girl humor at that then I don't suggest seeing this movie.

I suppose I shouldn't complain - it's not like I wasn't warned that it was going to be ugly.
I thought about walking out - but really wanted to believe the film would redeem itself. Seemed like it wanted to (the nephew character, the implied broken heart behind GB's character)...after the first 15 minutes - I'm not sure there's a way to redeem this kind of story.
I can see the pitch meeting in my head: it's Hitch in reverse... it's Someone Like You crossed with When Harry Met Sally and Cyrano De Bergerac (or the 20-year old movie rendition of it: Roxanne w/Steve Martin & Darryl Hannah).
What bothers me most is the idea that people will take the message too much to heart.

This was a horrible film. It was beyond vulgar (because when you don't have romantic chemistry or a good plot, turn to vulgarity!) and if you have ever seen the movie Someone Like You, you'll know the entire movie was a COMPLETE rip off of that. It is a truly average movie. It wasn't super funny (there were some funny parts), super sexy, super surprising, or super in any other way. It generated some interesting conversation after the movie, so it is fun for a couple to see. I didn't think the movie was that vulgar. 'The Ugly Truth' could have been a very cute romantic comedy, but there was much more vulgarity used than necessary to give credibility to the premise that the truth can be ugly. There were gems of truth about relationships between men and women, and some very funny moments. They just didn't need to pound the coarseness drum as often as they did to get the message across. If the over use of words that were formerly used for their shock value doesn't bother you, by all means see it.

Excellent comedic chemestry between Katerine and Gerard. When the whole audience is laughing incessantly, you know its a good movie.

It was certainly a funny movie but pretty obvious only because 95 percent of movies with two rivals of the opposite gender end up liking each other by the time the story is over. From the previews I could tell how the movie was going to be but it had some pretty funny parts in it. I'd recommend it for a good laugh.
