Like others, after reading some of the top critics reviews I wasn't sure I would like this movie. So I was pleasantly surprised at how good it was. It is funny, but takes some dark turns. It is a coming of age story - both Sandler and Rogen's characters are stuck in adolescence. There are flatulence jokes. There are enough “male member”jokes to make you gag. They are kids in the very competitive, sometimes back-stabbing real world of professional comedy. There are times when you don't like these characters very much but you hang in there with them as they work it out for themselves. Personally I think this is one of Sandler’s best performances – there is a depth beyond the goofiness that we don’t often get to see. I give the film 4.5 stars.

This was a great movie and even though it was long, there weren't any slow parts. I'm surprised other reviewers were shocked by the language. It's comparable to Apatow's other movies and more importantly it's exactly how comedians talk. I would have hated it if the language was like an episode of Friends. People who didn't find this funny probably have no sense of humor. The ones who didn't laugh in the theater think Jay Leno is the epitome of humor.

Comedian George Simmons (Adam Sandler) life is suddenly destroyed when he find out he has a terminal, inoperable disease. After he bombs a live performance he befriends an up and coming comedian (Seth Rogen) who he hires to help him through the ordeal. Funny People is one of my favorite comedies this summer. The acting is great and it's a bit smarter than some of it's competition currently in theaters. The supporting cast was amazing as well. Leslie Mann, Seth Rogen, Jonah Hill, Jason Schwartzman and even Eric Bana are all hilarious and overall do a great job with the film. I really loved this film .

At 2 1/2 hours (including previews) your time with Funny People will leave you feeling empty. It is not much of a comedy, and Adam Sandler character is never likable or compelling. I found myself wanting to see Seth Rogan become the Green Hornet and knock all of his detractors off their block. At least he would get a fair shot! The situation with his roommates is never resolved very well, and the resolution of film really is one of the least convincing of any film I have seen this year. Give Apatow credit for aiming high, but he stumbles here.

It was ok. Funny in certain spots probably funnier if you enjoy the Adam Sandler crass and juvenile humor. I personally find it a little tiresome but my husband seems to be able to appreciate it more than me. Adam Sandler plays a famous comedian who is informed that he has a lethal disease and also discovers that his life lacks any meaningful relationships. Seth Rogen has the better role of a sweet, caring, struggling comedian who ends up becoming Adam Sandler's personal assistant and probably the only one that really cares about him. The movie is a little slow towards the end. I wouldn't run and see this movie , I would probably wait until it comes out on DVD.

Funny people was an average film. As the trend seems to go lately, many of the funnier parts were in the previews. Here's a movie that is hobbled by its length and by insufficient editing. Adam Sandler is superb and nuanced; Seth Rogen balanced and maturing---but both of their performances are sabotaged by a long, draggy and self-indulgent script that was never given the benefit of rigorous editing. As entertaining as Eric Bana's character is (for a minute or two), the entire subplot featuring him and Lesley Mann became unendurably drawn out. Multiple cameos ultimately give nothing to the movie except the certainty that Judd Apatow has an an impressive Roladex.

Don't advertise that it is a movie from the makers of two comedies and then show the 3-4 jokes in commercial and then you spend a lot of money to go see it and get a serious drama about a guy dying. This is like the 3rd time hollywood has done this and I'm not happy about it. I love going to movies to feel GOOD so please don't false advertise a drama as a comedy. Plus the acting wasn't good either. These "funny" guys need to stick to comedies.

After my son and I watch this flic I remarked to him that it was not really a comedy at all. It was a drama and a romance about comedians. Okay, since there is so much dialogue from the comedians, I guess the movie qualifies as a drama/romance/comedy, and it does all three things very well. Character development is well done. The plot is compelling. The acting is good. This movie won't be winning an Oscar but it is well worth seeing. I doubt that I'll see a better flick this summer.

I was expecting a great comedy from the same people who made "Knocked Up" and "40 Year Old Virgin", but "Funny People" was quite different. FP is not a comedy, it's a dramady (half drama, half comedy). At one point I thought I was watching a remake of "Brian's Song" with stand-up comics instead of football players. A good movie, but the ads are misleading.
