Great to watch a comedy that didn't go for the juvenile laughs - in fact it laughed at juvenile comedy. A little long - I say this only because I looked at my watch 3/4 of the way through, but very enjoyable.

I agree with many of the other reviewers of this movie. Had it been cut to about 1hr 45min I think it would have been much more enjoyable. There were just too many slow periods without laughs. That being said, Seth Rogan is hilarious.

I was very much wanting to like/love this movie. I enjoy these actors and actresses and their previous works along with the those of writer/producer Judd Apatow. I was so excited to see another Adam Sandler movie until I started to watch. I was ready for some good laughs but there really weren't any. I think the constant references to male body parts and the constant f-word was boring and got old really quick! Looked like a movie that was slapped together without much thought. VERY DISAPPOINTING!! Hope Sandler will go back to his old sense of humor and make another GOOD movie!!

When Jerry Lewis did "King of Comedy" you understood the darkside of comedy and of the man. Adam Sandler has decided to let us see his darkside in this overly long, loosely edited, mixed bag of a movie. To the extent that the sight is disturbing and genuine one can't help but applaud. Sandler's performance is too convincing not to contain a heavy dose of truth. I suspect it will be hard for him to return to the kind of movies which made him rich and famous after this one. It was a courageous role. I wish it had been in a better movie.

Apatow's latest is good, but schizophrenic--it starts off as a genuinely funny depiction of the seamy side of standup comedy, and with Seth Rogen and Jonah Hill at the helm, it's hilarious. But then it goes off the rails when the focus shifts to Adam Sandler's illness and subsequent rekindling of an old love affair. Blecchhh--pretty soggy. And, for the record, not very believable. Sandler is sometimes funny, but it's Seth Rogen who saves the movie, with his combination of humor and pure sweetness.

A well-intentioned effort by Apatow and his cadre of actors. This is a serious movie sprinkled with bits of humor....but humor is not the crux of this film. The flaw is the unnecessary indulgence with "teenage boy humor" (flatulence & intercourse jokes & f-bomb lingo). Why inject this drama with an over abundance of this stuff? It is distracting....like eating your favorite dinner at a really nice restaurant and finding a long hair in your food mid-way through your meal. You want to like the food....it's great food....but....a hair! Dad blast it ....the hair diminishes (if not ruins) and otherwise perfect meal! All this and it is still worth seeing as Sandler & Rogen show us what they are capable of!

I love Adam Sandler and usually think he is hilarious. But this movie was not funny, it was corny. Unless you think the continuous use of vulgar language is funny, you will not get much enjoyment out of it. In addition, it was too long and everyone in my party was glad when it was over. I found this movie poorly acted by Adam Sandler and the writing deceptive and angry. Disappointing portrait of struggling comedians and how they treat each other. I won't enjoy stand up at all anymore. It was a much darker comedy than I expected and am disapointed in the malipulative hype.

I'm glad Adam Sandler has grown out of his 90's funnyman stories. This movie was very funny, and I enjoyed it's portrayal of the average comedian trying to make a living. It ended up being too vulgar to see with my grandmother.... I should have looked at the R rating. I suggest you see it, it was very funny :)

This movie was more serious than I expected and I think seeing a different side of Sandler was wonderful. The movie was very funny, but also sad and had a real story to it. It shows the side of a comedian that people don't actually see. It is a very long movie, but I enjoyed the entire ride. I really enjoyed most of this movie. Sandler show good range playing a believable serious role while still showing his humorous side. The movie was long but I wasn't in any hurry for it to end...
I was a little turned off with all the sophmoric (sp?) peni$ jokes & obvious over-use of the "F" bomb just because they could. I don't any of this actually offensive but it's a bit too obvious that it's just in shock/humor for the younger crowd.

I enjoyed this movie -- it was definitely more dark and serious than your usual Apatow fare, but the performances by Seth Rogen, the Apatow girls and Leslie Mann were very heartfelt and poignant. Adam Sandler is also very memorable as a star who is used to getting his own way, and has been living in such a world for a long time (maybe too long). That being said, the movie did bumble along for a while and waver between what direction it wanted to go in, but it's not a bad experience -- not in the least. Watch this film for the stars and their wonderful performances. There will be moments that you feel down, but the laughs will grab you in the gut.

What a dumb movie. Obviously, Adam Sandler is begging for relevance in an age where people don't really have time for lame actors and Republicans, both of which accurately describe Adam Sandler. This was much more serious than I expected, but I happen to like Adam Sandler in serious movies, I think he's underrated in serious roles. Because he's a comedian and the name of the movie is Funny People, I think people had the impression this was a comedy. I mean, Adam's character was alone and sick, how funny is that? Not very. I liked how the younger characters began to grow up throughout the movie and in the end Adam's character grew up a little as well.

Out of the latest Apitow movies I think this was deeper than I expected. Alot of laughs as well but not the laugh out loud funny his other movies have been. My fav was "Knocked up" which was sort of deep as well but much funnier I think. Keep it up though. Love the whole revolving cast and those kids are just the cutest!!

We loved this movie. It was smart, touching and very funny. Given what I had read, I almost didn't go. The performances have really stayed with me. Adam Sandler gives his best performance yet. Seth Rogan was wonderful. The New Yorker review was right on target. See this movie and then tell everyone you know. It deserves to be seen!

It is a funny movie, but also has moments that can really touch you. The stand up routines in it are hilarious.

the funny parts were very funny. in true apatow fashion, there's a good mix of crude/potentially offensive humor/language and emotional depth. fairly complicated for a d!ck and f@rt joke movie, not as depressing as dancer in the dark. i think this one leaned more toward drama than comedy, in comparison to 40 year old virgin and knocked up. i would've liked more comedy, but again, the funny is funny. it can be a bit of a bummer at times, but worth seeing.

To put it bluntly, this movie sucked. It was too long, the story (such as it was) was a mess, the characters were so unlikeable that you had no one to root for, and few jokes were actually funny. And let's not forget Apatow's self-indulgent casting of his real life daughters (even going so far as to include footage from one of their home movies). Personally, I couldn't wait for this film to be over. Don't waste your time. Skip it!!!

Just cause Funny is in title, doesn' t mean it's a comedy. It's a drama with funny lines and a cast that can't help being funny. Overall, I applaud Apatow for taking a risk and not giving the film a 'movie' ending. It was sad and realistic. Adam Sandler was consistent the entire movie and Eric Bana was a nice surprise.
