I thought this movie was overall Hilarious! BUT- I have to to say I had no clue about the Cancer thing by watching the TV commercials for the move. But- it touched me, and I thought the funny parts made up for the sad parts. My husband and I cracked up the whole time. We are 35 years old, so maybe the bad rating from others were from the younger crowd who haven't really experienced "Life" yet. I love Adam Sandler, he is just so naturally hilarious and real. My only negative comment would be that it got too long, and I thought the Fight Scene at the end was a little far fetched. It could have been 20 minutes shorter, and I may have given it 5 stars. That's it for me!

This is the second review I am writing because in the first one I used a lot of the words in the movie to describe the movie and the review rejected it because of all the foul language. That pretty much sums up this poor excuse for comedy with weak story and lack of skill to make something funny without using every body part of the male and female to try and get a laugh.
It is geared to age 15 or anyone emotionally and developmentally at age 15 who think grossing out the audience is cool.

I thought this movie was very interesting. It wasn't what I expected going into it but it was funny smart and made you think. It was a side of Adam Sandler I hadn't seen and didn't know he could play. Seth Rogan is very funny as is Jonah HIll. I would recommend it and really enjoyed it.

Quite possibly the worst movie made in 2009, and perhaps 2008 as well. Not only was it not funny at all, but it was completely depressing. Entirely too long with the same joke over and over again, which wasn't funny the first time around. Please don't waste your money or time--it's over 2 hours of your life you'll never get back.

First off, it was a good movie. I also thought that the movie went about 20 or so minutes too long. All of the character's were very lovable and I knew going in that this a comedy/drama, and it would not be solid laughs. I love Adam Sandler in the serious roles as well as the comedy, but the people who are on here saying that it is his greatest role ever have not seen Reign Over Me. I am still furious that he did not get a Oscar nod for that role. All in All go see it, you will be entertained :)

Not quite as hilarious as I was expecting/hoping, but a very good movie. I really enjoyed the performances by both Rogen and Sandler. Lots of flawed characters, but a movie about the human element and not just frat-boy humor, which was nice to see.

Went with my 14 year old nephew and my husband. I laughed the most at the beginning when Sandler was younger. We all liked it but each of said the ending was to long and not that funny, during the scenes with his love interest. I actually really liked Seth Rogen. More interaction with his roomates would have been great.

Funny People had many moments of funniness, but it was also a little too long. Adam Sandler was great as always. The movie started out great. The characters were well defined. The plot was interesting. The movie got long towards the end while Adam Sandler was following after his real true love. This is extraordinary work. The first 2 Apatow movies showed some high art above the basic jokes (especially 40 year old virgin) but this one is not only split gut, knee slapping funny and full of wry wit, it had a basic foundation of real love. I really enjoyed the movie, it was funny but also realistic. This movie is a great portrayal of those who are struggling to become a successful comedian. There's a good chance you won't walk away from this movie filled with happy feelings, but it won't make you want to kill yourself.

First if you expect waterboy or little nicki stay home, those are anti-matter equivalent of this movie.
This is a movie that i loved, but there is a big question as to whether its a comedy or not. Yes it has laughs and lots of them, but its more like a drama with questions about life and lifes choices than anything else. Its an insiders tale of a comic, and like any other life it has its ups and downs, its stresses and sacrifices. There are no true villains or heroes but people who can be selfish or generous, but just people in the end. Its obvious that Apatow and crew made this a personal journey, that alone should make you have respect for what they are trying to say.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

hilarious and touching, but needlessly gross.
sandler is great as a gloomy comedian and rogen, so so adorable. sandler could've been more dramatic at times and more funny at times.
however it's distracting to have so much profanity which doesn't push any part of the story. where's the wit and tastefulness?

the movie was funny at times early then it just really dragged and thought i was watching jerry springer the last hour and 20 mins. Wait for dvd and then wait for it to come off the new release list, then rent it.
