GREAT MOVIE I do not care how long the movie if ADAM SANDLER and SETH ROGEN is in it, people need to learn that you need to appreciate Judd Apatow (director) and the time he put in this movie. It is in my top 5 favorite movies of all time. I cant wait to see the Green Hornet in theaters next summer

After seeing the commercials, I expected Funny People to be joke after joke, considering the stellar cast. It really was more of a drama/chick flick/comedy cornucopia. I would still recommend it, as it has some great stand up and is a good feel-good movie, but don't expect the same kind of constant hilarity as in The Hangover.

I thoroughly enjoyed both The 40-Year Old Virgin and Knocked Up so I naturally thought I would fall in love with this movie. Although there are good one-liners and one really funny seen with Ray Romano and Eminem the movie fell short. The main issue is that it goes on forever, 2hrs 20min! Although hilarious Apatow movies like the two I mentioned earlier are approx. 2hrs long they're way more entertaining. Parts of this movie of just very slow and even depressing. I would see it if your an Apatow fan, but I would think twice otherwise.

A touchy - feely movie with current and everlasting themes... 20- 30 somethings that wear Logo t-shirts with monikers of yesteryear some overpaid, for no good reason, others scrapping to get ahead and all envious of each other . Cameos of comedians that you remember in something! The "you're dying" thread doesn't hit too hard, yet enough the lead actor has a life changing realization . A good pic with "FUNNY PEOPLE" in it.

I was in the mood for an uplifting, funny movie. This movie was really far from funny and way too long. If dark humor is your thing, you may enjoy this movie, but there are parts of the movie where you find yourself thinking 'come on already, get on with the show'. It's as if the writer, Judd Apatow, of this "movie" had several jokes, mostly about balls, and decided to craft a whole LONG movie around scrotem jokes ( spelled wrong- had to fool the censor). Bad idea. Adam Sandler is supposed to be dying from cancer but his performance never gives any real credibility. Leslie Mann is bland and adds nothing. Many of the scenes in the movie come off as overly fabricated and pretentious. The actors wear tee shirts with different dumb sayings thorough out....it is juvenile. As is this movie.

Amusing scenes were few and far between. In fact only funny scenes were those in trailer. A total lack of plot, entirely vulgar and indecent., Not suitable for adults let alone teenagers. I spent the entire length of the movie wanting to leave but stayed only in hopes that in might have some redeeming quality. Unfortunately it had none. This movie was so ridiculously obscene that I will now screen my movie watching to make sure I am never insulted by watching a movie with any of the primary stars in them. This movie was very funny at parts and features a very solid cast. That being said, it is movie in search of a third act. It is funny and relevant until about halfway through the script, at which point it begins to meander in search of an ending, or even a point. Is this movie trying to make a point or is it really just another very tired look into challenges couples today face? Is this a sad commentary into the lonely lives of comedians, or just a vehicle to get as many of Apatow and Sandler's friends on-screen roles? I don't know if anyone else will agree but my husband, my sister and I went to see the movie on opening night and although there were parts that were laugh until you cry funny the overall movie was not what I expected. The movie lasted over 2 hours. I think that the director could have cut out at least 30 to 45 minutes of fluff in the movie. Don't get me wrong the premise was good and they did deliver on the laughs, but it lasted to long and by the end it seemed that the movie really started to drag.

I really enjoyed this movie, and appreciated a movie from Sandler that really had some heart in the midst of comedy. This movie pays homage to stand up comedy in a way that only Jerry Seinfeld has. Despite the vulgar jokes and profane language, the movie was really, really funny. It was a movie that made me laugh and think at the same time, and I would recommend it to anyone looking for more than a brainless romcom or dude comedy.

My husband loves Adam Sandler so we expected a funny and entertaining movie. Wrong! This movie was very boring--especially in the beginning. I really like Adam Sandler and have enjoyed all of his movies up to now. This was just ok for me - it has some pretty funny stand up routines throughout the movie but a little bit dark undelying plot for me for an Adam Sandler movie. You go to see a Adam Sandler movie just to forget about things for a while not contemplating death. Too many comedians want to prove to the world they are true actors and do a deep drama. I loved Adams role in this movie. I feel like this is his character in real life. Sometimes I find some of his sense of humor silly and not so funny but this movie I felt had some great comedy. Not the funniest movie I've ever seen in my life, but entertaining. It did get a few laugh out loud moments from me. I would say, however, that it was a bit longer than it needed to be. I think about 3 1/2 stars would be more appropriate... but unfortunately I couldn't give half stars. :)

One of the best movies I've seen in 2009, seriously. I really believe Sandler should get nominated for his performance. I know comedies don't often get the nod, but this was not a comedy. It was a drama with funny aspects. Being a 30 something with kids this script hit home - I have friends grappling with the same issues as Sandler's character of career, health, messed up relationships, etc. All the actors were spot on with their deliveries. Although I felt the last third of the movie could have been tightened up, overall I enjoyed it. This was more along the lines of Punch Drunk Love, not Happy Gillmore. There is more to the script than meets the eye. I would definitely rent this later just to absorb all the layers going on.

The first 1/2 of this movie was great - funny and clever with a lot of great writing! Good mix of humor and seriousness. However, the movie went on for way too long! Second 1/2 got pretty stale - the jokes were much less crisp and the characters became a bit annoying. It would have been much better final product if it was a half-hour shorter.

Overall, I enjoyed this movie and would recommend people see but I would suggest renting it rather than seeing it in the theater. The movie was way too long; Apatow could have cut out a lot of the time at the ex-girlfriend's place. I thought that it was really funny for the most part; I really enjoyed Jason Swartzman as always. I enjoyed the concept of the movie regarding seeing how someone like a stand up comedian deals with dark/sad issues. Hopefully, if Apatow does another film like this, he/his editor will make sure the job gets done right this time.
