This movie had me all shook up! I was laughing! I was crying! I was completely moved by the innovative characters and unpredictable story!
It's nice to see a holiday move from a Latino perspective. Especially when John Leguizamo and Luis Guzman round out the exceptional cast!
Nothing Like The Holidays captures the love, drama, and comedy of the season. And you don't have to be Hispanic to relate and enjoy.

This was a family interaction theme with a mix of humorous, sad, moving and dramatic moments. The interplay of the characters felt real. Acting was good throughout the cast. The conclusion had a touch of "happy ever after," but then again, with its shares of disappointed dreams and one real tragedy. Excellent treatment of a topic usually overlooked - the life of hispanic America. The message was as it should be - hispanic Americans have a rich culture, loving family life and deal with the same problems as the rest of us.

I look at this movie as "This Christmas" from a Latino prespective. A family gets together for the Christmas season as they welcome back one of their own after serving in Iraq. The story line was funny, dramatic and heartwarming. If you want to check out a Christmas-themed movie this year, choose "Nothing Like The Holidays". You will have a great time.

While portions of the movie are heartwarming, most of the movie is typical of a made for TV movie. There are no true surprizes since most of the plot twists are telegraphed to the viewer way before they happen. Freddy Rodriguez is the strongest actor/character in this movie. This movie contains lots of different family elements, from the actress looking for her big break to the Iraqi veteran. Several romantic relationships are chronicled throughout the movie. And there is one touching scene where the Marine recounts an incident in Iraq. It was a good, clean movie. There was no sex and I don't recall hearing any cuss words. If you liked "This Christmas," you should also like Nothing Like the Holidays.

Every year many of us look forward to the latest collection of Holiday fare. This year offers several. Nothing Like the Holidays is exactly the kind of movie I love. While some like ridiculous movies where the characters are rude and mean-spirited like in Bad Santa or the Kranks, I tend to like warm hearted films like this one. No matter what your ethnic background this Puerto Rican family is just like any other family in America. It is a blend of people who love each other despite their differences and who come together at Christmas time each year to share and reminisce. If you love sweet holiday movies, this is one you should not miss!

If you think this is going to be your typical holiday family gathering movie you are wrong. This is a depressing drama amongst a spanish family set in New York. It has an occasional glimmer of humor here and there. I had to struggle through the first half of this one until the story took a turn toward the latter half and then rendered it not half bad. I still cannot understand why they casted Debra Messing, but am thinking it was to capture the american audience? . But if you are not familiar with the spanish traditions during the holiday this movie spells it out. I found that part of the film rewarding. I would give it 2 1/2 stars.
