They could easily have cut 20 minutes from this movie without affecting its quality. The underwater scene was interminable and probably not even needed. Don't hold your breath. Otherwise, it was a great movie if you're looking for escapism and special effects. I don't really look for great acting in a movie like this, which is a good thing.

2012 has some of the best and most amazing special effects that I have ever seen. The eruption of the caldera beneath Yellowstone was amazing. Unfortunately a movie is not made by special effects alone, it needs acting; which this one was lacking. Okay the whole premise of the world coming to an end is very old hat in the science fiction realm, but they tried it again with the Mayan Calendar angle. Did it work? No! It was simply an overused story of how some survive worldwide disaster. I’ll admit I was entertained, but it wasn’t worth a full priced movie ticket.

I forgot I bought snacks at the concession stand. There were a few bad acting moments, but they were short and it got right back to the action. I've told all my friends it would be a waste to wait for this movie to come out on dvd. Definitely one to see in the theater.

This was just what a disaster movie should be: thrills aplenty, excellent special effects, and even some good acting. As with all movies of this kind, one must go along for the ride, and not think too hard about petty details, and implausibilities. Just sit back, enjoy the spectacle and have fun.

I rated this movie based on believability. The animation was a little over-the-top, while the chances of a vehicle, private or commercial plane successfully making it through such catastrophe, miraculous to say the least. At that point it went from a glimpse into the future, to an action-packed roller-coaster ride. Never a dull moment. Go see it for the special effects. Not to be confused with reality. Ending concept excellent.

OK, I knew this wasn't going to be one of the best movies of all time from seeing earlier reviews, but I did expect to at least be entertained for a while. NOT! The charachters were totally unrelateable, never got emotionally invested in them at all. The special effects (which were the only reason I wanted to see this in the first place) were not even close to looking believable. I've seen better special effects in animated films!!! They were not at all what I expected.
Bottom line, don't waste your hard-earned money on this dud, even if you thought the special effects were worth seeing on a big screen - they're not. Wait for Blu-Ray!
