I've seen this movie twice now. The special efx are amazing and yes, while you have the regular Hollywood hero/love triangle, it worked. Even with John Cussack as the hero...I took some fiends with me the 2nd. time, who work in the industry and were a bit skeptical. They LOVED it!!! If you wait to see it on DVR, you'll miss so much. Amazing on the BIG screen!!!

We went in skeptical that this movie could keep our attention for two and a half hours...I mean really, how much destruction can you see without it getting old? But, WOW! Were we blown away. The special effects were truly incredible and the story was pretty decent. It kept us riveted until the end. If you like action with a double-heaping of special effects, this is the movie for you.

Plenty of action from the beginning of the film. Reminded me of one of the disaster films of the 80s. My family and I enjoyed the film and I know I thought about it after we left the theater -- that's a good sign because the film stayed with me.

Go for the action and not for the story or writing. By far exciting when it comes to visual effects and that may make it worth $11+ a tix if that's what gets you off. But if you're looking for a plot that goes beyond the Hollywood, cliche-rich standard then you'll be disappointed big time. I would not recommend taking any children under the age of 10 to this. Though it doesn't show gore or much blood, you do see some serious devastation and loss of life; after all, billions of people die in horrific ways all over the planet and it may be too intense for young viewers.

Overall, my family rated the movie a B-. It begins very slowly with the use of a lot of technical terms that quickly bored my pre-teens. The action sequences were unrealistic. There's no way that Cusack's character could maneuver a limousine so deftly. Neither could the pilot later in the movie fly through torrential winds and volcanic ash with only 2 flight lessons under his belt. That stated, the special effects were pretty impressive and Woody Harrelson's played the wacko genius brilliantly. Those two highlights are what kept us in the theater long enough to see the ending.

Amazing what computers can do. Sure I rather not see REAL effects that would cause global warming and such. It was the same story line played out over and over again. The part where Danny Glover (The Pres.) looks up out of the ashes and sees the big wave and carrier crashing down on him was espcially silly but movies like this are suppose to be silly. A *very* silly movie, as expected, with "science" that a 12-year-old would question and plot holes the size of a Russian jumbo jet. The human-scale parts of the movie were as forgettable as with most disaster flicks; Woody's performance was the biggest exception--he was just obnoxious, and Thandie Newton was fine in her small role. As for the disaster scenes, though, they were amazingly-well-choreographed and "filmed" (must be near 100% CGI) with exciting view angles and the required near-misses around every 3-D corner with everything falling apart at a fast pace. This was the first film I'd seen at a CineMagic theatre with its digital projection system, and it was a real eye-opener--well worth the 75-minute drive!

I figured this would be all flash and no substance...those types of movies have their place. I was pleasantly surprised about how much I got into the movie. It helped that the theater was full and we had to have a 2nd row seat...I think being immersed in the movie helped me get into it.

I love how this movie is getting horrific reviews because people are terrified that the world will end in 2012. No, the world will NOT come to a close in 2012, yet that is not a reason to dislike this film. The special effects are superb and the acting was amazing. Although this movie could have been shorter, it is an edge-of-your-seat thriller that everyone (with the exception of very young kids) can enjoy! Would Highly Reccomend.

Want a great fun ride? 2012 works! Of course much of a "logical" stiryline is missing but who cares? This was a fun diversion and I can't believe that the ending won't have you holding your breath.
