The movie was very entertaining, while it was of a serious nature it kept enough small points of humor to keep it real and enjoyable. Not a slow movie in any way, great effects and great flow. The only thing not real was the fact that as the world goes to h@ll, your cell phone will still work.
The cameo role by Woody , will be a classic for ages to come.

While the special effects were quite good the story was quite predictable. The message I got was if people don't grow up,stop the greed, hate & selfishness, something WILL grab us by the neck & shake some sense in us. Mr. Cusack said it all. Worth seeing if you get what it is saying to us!

From about 5 minutes into this movie, I was sitting on the edge of my seat. While some effects were stretched as far as possible without snapping (driving thru the collapsing building??), the entire movie was full of eye candy (sorry Mrs Peet, while u are attractive, I meant the visual effects). John Cusack was really good too & I'm saying that even though he blocked me on Twitter for blending a bad government comment of his with the Cute Fuzzy Bunny Gang.
This movie is definitely worth catching on the big screen & then catching again to catch the things happening out of focus of the main characters. Be sure to use the restroom before seeing it, and don't purchase the large drink before sitting down. Otherwise you WILL miss something!

If this movie starred Dolph Lundgren and was written by the writers of Disney Channel sitcoms, I'd still recommend it just for the pure visual spectacle. Watching most of the world destroyed with such amazing effect was breathtaking.
That said, the storyline was a little weak. There was not much at all about the Mayan predictions of 2012. The characters weren't much to speak of. And the acting was a little spotty at times, although honestly I like John Cusack enough that I could probably watch him watching paint dry for a couple of hours.
It didn't have quite the emotional impact of Emmerich's Independence Day or even Day After Tomorrow. But it is still absolutely worth seeing.

This movie has non-stop action. Some of the scrapes the main actor escapes from are kind of hard to believe but the special effects are great.. King Pins Roy Munson (Woody Harrelson) has a small part in this movie as well.

I thought that I would be going to another movie that showed all of it's special effects on the trailer, but this was not the case. Special effects are excellent and run all through the movie. There was a nice story line along side of all the action. Perfect high concept movie.

When i went to watch this movie, i was expecting something really good. well that's what i got. it was good all around. it has a nice story that makes you want to think in some parts. it also has really good special effects. if this is suppose to be what it might happen in the year 2012, it is pretty unrealistic. its probably not going to be a disaster that bad in next few years. if there was, we would already know about it now. all in all it was great movie!

Of the movies I've seen this year "2012" is the worst movie. There was absolutely no substance, and it was such a waste of an opportunity to present some solid history on the Mayan calendar. All there was were special effects and flaunting of class status and typical government conspiracy scenarios that just meshed together badly. There was a 2-second mention from a reporter on a TV screen that said something about it could be happening as predicted by the Mayan calendar. I'm sorry but wasn't that the whole premise of the tragedy happening in 2012? Maybe if the creators of “The Da Vinci Code” and “Angels & Demons” movies would've tackled this we could get some substance. Garbage!

Less craptastic than the Day After Tomorrow.
Some of the effects were cool. But that's about it.
They should've gotten a bunch of no-name actors and spent the savings working on the storyline (e.g., drop the whole "divorced family" device, the conspiracy theorist, amongst other things).

Does the term, "Been there - Done that" ring a bell? This movie made me feel like I was watching every single "END OF THE WORLD" movies all at once. The plot was so tired that I would have slept throught the entire thing 'cept for the action scenes. Amanda Peet just loses her husband and five minutes later she's ramming her tongue down Cusacks throat. I KNOW they used to be married, but give me a break! This movie gets an A+ for digital effects. The genre for this movie is HORROR. Not because of the special effects which by the way are very well done, but because I will regret wasting my time in such a stupid story, script that any 10 year old could have written, is terrible. I first wondered about those smart people who decided to make this movie or fund it, what were they thinking? Based in not only one, but many simmilar quality movies and seeing that many people likes it, makes me wonder what is the average IQ level in this country or even the world. Sorry guys. We should not go to see this kind of movies. Make me laugh, make me cry, surprise me. 2012 only frightened me. What is going on with the audiences? 2012 only shows the end of good taste and Hollywood.

This movie is exactly what you expect. Over the top destruction and mayhem. No sense of reality whatsoever. Blockbuster in every sense of the word. This is why people go see Emmerich movies. It's why I go, anyway. Know what you're getting into and have a very fun ride.

Very entertaining with great special effects. A bit hokey at times but that was part of the fun.
