I went in thinking this would be "just another run-of-the-mill annihilation movie" but instead found myself brought to tears many times throughout movie. Besides the excellent special effects, beautiful scenery and generally good acting (except for the "token" Russian man, whose character does not develop), the movie makes you THINK. As a Christian, I believe that only God knows when the world will end, and we will not have the opportunity to prepare the way the chosen few in this movie were able to do so. However, I found myself reflecting on my family, friendships, relationships and myself, wondering whether or not I will be prepared when the end arrives.

Obviously nothing ended up on the cutting room floor. Parody movies will have wonderful new fodder. Was an overblown, stupid, Christian hating movie. Did I laugh through most of it? Yes. Was I on edge of my seat? No. Was I ready to slap Cusacks & Peets characters and feed them to lions? Yes. And according to the movie, white men are either stupid, cruel, selfish (oh and fat) or all four. And nope I'm not a white man.

2012 was a rollercoaster of visual effects. I enjoyed it, especially in the wake of all other boring titles at the boxoffice. The only complaint i have is that i think i've seen it all before...oh yes "The Day After Tomorrow" it has the same feel: world coming to an end, nothing we can do, chosen few survive...the end.

Special effects became boring, story totally unplausible. As usual, husband made to look like insensitive man who neglected his family (typical hollywood story). On the bright side, the 7 year old doesn't have to wear pull ups anymore. Oh brother. Don't waste your money on this one.

My husband and I saw 2012 last night and thought it was the most brilliant special effects movie ever. We didn't go for the plot or storyline so our expectations were not disappointed. One of the parts that got me was about the super volcano in Yellowstone National Park. I had a vision back in March 2009 of it exploding and obliterating everything (which I completely forgot about until I saw the movie.) I was already on the edge of my seat from previous movie scenes. Imagine me now trying to fathom TWO scenes: the one on the screen and the one in my spirit! I kept telling my husband "That's the vision I saw months ago!!!" He remembered, too. This was the ultimate "Six Flags" in thrills!

I went into this thinking it was just another movie, but I was wrong!!! The Special effects are AWESOME, the whole movie is great, ties together well. It is long, but you do not feel like you are sitting there for almost three hours! We took our 9 year old and 5 year olds with us, and they were watching the whole time! They really got into it! Aside from some language, I think it is okay for the younger set. I was explaining to the 5 year old that "it's just a movie" and she seemed okay with that. This is MUST SEE.....

This is just ok. It really is. If you liked (in the '70's & '80's) Poseidon Adventure, Earthquake, etc., etc., you'll like this. But it has some impossible to believe things in it... w/6 billion of us on Earth, the same people keep bumping into each other but on completely different continents. (slappin' muh forehead) And a guy that's had 1 or 2 pilot's lessons can magically fly a twin engined plane like a fighter pilot through falling debris. The special effects are great! Five stars for those folks! Woody Harrelson plays a funny, very entertaining (albeit short) role that you'll enjoy. Best seen on your 47" LCD at home w/the stereo cranked & a bowl of reasonably priced popcorn. This is NOT a $9.50 ticket & $10 for popcorn/drink movie.

Let me start off by saying I did not enjoy The Day After Tomorrow, a previous film done by Emmerich. The movie 2012 was a cliche disaster movie. Don't believe comments saying it was "award worthy" or even "good". I assure you it was NOT any of those. And PLEASE don't bring your toddlers to this movie. That's just plain bad parenting regardless of the quality of the movie. Let me finish by saying I think The Day After Tomorrow was better than this movie.

I had a deja vu moment 2 hours into 2012! It felt very similar to the feeling of numbness I felt 3/4 of the way through Transformers II after watching giant robots fight for 2 hours - same noises, same basic visuals & same great special effects. Endless giant robot fights vs. endless scenes of pavement buckling, buildings collapsing & landscapes sinking into chasms. I liked these special effects better because they did show variation. Not much story here. Not much plot or dialogue. Not much subtlety....but that is not the objective. A+ for special effects and C- for pretty much everything else for a final grade of B/B+. See it on the biggest screen possible for the "you-know-what"! A wild, earth-shattering, white-knuckle visual ride!

If you have any children, you will want to go home and hold them tight... I LOVED the movie and think that it should get some great awards for special effects and to John Cusack and Amanda Peet. I guess you got to have a family and feel the extreme "what if my children don't have a future" to feel the true guilt of this movie. I am looking forward to getting it on blueray and holding my grandson close.. very close.

woody was the best part.....it's a good movie.....i would recommend it......but they only explored too few avenues about what 2012 is all about......its definitely extreme point of view......but weather should of been more involved like hurricanes and tornados.....those things are what is missing in the movie.......they needed more weather related effects....then just earthquakes and one super volcano.....there is much more to 2012 then those things. i give it a B.....there are close but not just right

2 hours and 38 minutes of....stuff
Seemed like easily a full hour and a half of special effects that would have looked great in IMAX...but less than stellar on anything else.
Then of course we have the political over/undertones to deal with as well ranging from the "we did this" to destruction of every major christian religious symbol but not a single Islamic symbol.
Regardless, it was watchable.

Uhhhg, I I wish I had an aisle seat so I could have left earlier. I was in the middle of the row and felt stuck. Dummmb story and special effects that we have all seen for over 10 years! I am so glad I didn't get the large popcorn I was tempted to get. 800 fat claories plus a horrible movie. That's double jepardy!

3 1/2 stars really- it wasnt a great masterpiece but it kept me wanting more- that is until 2 hours of what seemed like a live action video game that wouldnt end- my friends and i called it the never ending story...part3- visually it was awesome- mind blowing- because of that fact i was able to look past all the movie cliches it was throwing at me- at least there wasnt crazy comic relief through the whole film like transformers2- (witch was one of the worst movies ever made) but all and all i was entertained- it was mindless entertainment- there was no thinking required for this film at all- so if thats what your going for- go see it- you'll have fun

DO NOT DRINK A LARGE DRINK WHILE WATCHING THIS MOVIE! This is a fast paced, thrilling movie that you won't want to miss a second watching. Just about every minutes has a something you will find of interest. The pace is perfectly spaced with moments to catch your breath. The graphics were unbelievable. I wonder how they are able to make the impossible seem possible. You'll leave the movie feeling that there is hope for mankind even in the most disheartening situations. I would recommend this movie to those over 13 who aren't too fearful. People who worry that the world will end might find this movie to be TOO realistic.

GREAT CGI. The effects in this movie were brilliant, but the story and characters were not any different then any other end of the world movie that has come before it.
