If you're a special effects nut, you might find yourself liking this movie. Other than that...I understand you have to suspend your belief system somewhat, but the action scenes are so over the top incredible (LA falls into the ocean and they just drive out of it? Really?) that I almost had to laugh. Even in disaster flicks, the poignant moments should bring a tear to your eye, but the actors (especially John Cusack) seem to have a hard time believing what they're doing. So, I didn't fall asleep, but I won't be seeing it again.

The movie was good fun. Turn off your brain and just enjoy the show. The premise was laughable, the morality diatribes were sanctimonious, but the movie was entertaining without a doubt.
If you want something with some intellectual depth, or with a realistic story, or that doesn't preach at you, this isn't the movie for you. But if you want brain candy and eye candy, it's great.

2012 was better & more balanced than what I anticipated. One of the arguments prebrewing was that 2012 absolutely was declaring that the world was ending which is 180 degrees opposite from Mayan knowing. The movie did not show the world ending but a new beginning with the old disappearing. One profound TRUE line mentioned was that Mother Earth knows what is going on and knows who She will keep and who not. Love and the heart decision of ,'Loving Ones Neighbor as Themselves ' is also yelled upon the housetops. Even Hollywood is getting the message of love. Go see it!

Listen, its fun and entertaining, computer graphics are incredible, story lines and plots are okay, but lets face reality, if you buy a ticket to see this movie its because you want to see the world destroyed, and not to see an academy award performance! And this movie delivers in destruction! The LA scenes are tense and exciting, even though I knew it was all fake I was on the edge of my seat trying to take in everything that was happening! This movies CGI is complicated and beautiful, and well worth the money to go see again to catch the action you missed the first time around. Enjoy!

For its genre, I thought 2012 was very entertaining, and the visual effects were simply stunning! I didn't go to the movie expecting an Oscar-worthy storyline or acting performances, but it was surpisingly fun and purposely kitschy. I also LOVED the song that ran over the credits, "Time for Miracles." Such a big movie required big vocals in its theme song, and that song was beautiful and powerful enough to stand up to all the epic, towering visuals in the film. The chorus keeps running through my head!

Cool effects, and imaginative... but mostly undelievable and unrealistic. I love these kind of movies, but i think that more respect should be paid to the truth of these cataclysms and how impossible it would be to escape them... it's silly to think a camper or limo could just escape them by driving fast. Also very cheesy at many points which made me laugh.

If it weren't for all of the cheesey Hollywood movie speaches - "we must be kind to one another and save humanity, blah blah," I could have tolerated this movie a bit more. The special effects were awesome, but the dialogue was SO aweful, it was a bit painful. We laughed quite a bit during the movie at its stupidity, and longed for more of the excitement and special effects. Overall, I was pretty bummed with they hype.

I expect sci-fi films to have good science. The premise for the calamity is based on good science and not a flimsy no explanation catastrophe. However, if this film was made after the election of Obama in 2008, there are some casting and plot points that do not fit with 2012, which will be the last year of Obama's first term. The Black president is too old, a widower, with one adult daughter. The film spends most of its footage on the destruction of US cities. I would like to have seen more international scenes. In the end, we learn the fate of one continent. But, in the final pull out into space, other land masses can be seen. Editing would have left time for a more satisfying conclusion.

Incredible, funny at times, amazing. It wasn't just explosions and chaos; it had decent acting, awesome effects, and I think it was 2h38mins f my life well spent. The movie was Awsome! But do yourself a favor educate yourself first on the "Dark Rift", "Planet Alignment", "Solar Flares/Cycles", "Fracture Quakes", and of course "Pole Shifts". Of what they are first, before seeing the movie. The movie assumes the majority of the audience is up to speed on these subjects, and they kind of miss out on "the message". And just stare at the screen like it was just another zombie movie. The movie is highly entertaining, but its also very educational on a "What if scenario?"

I am getting extremely tired of Hollywood trying to indoctrinate us through entertainment of their political views (especially because they all seem to be of the leftist, marxist variety). John Cusack and the kids actually made the movie worthwhile for me to sit through to the end. I find it extremely ironic how the director chose to only show Christian monuments being destroyed and not any muslim monuments because he didn't want to 'offend anyone'. Yet the whole salvation of humankind was based on the Book of Genesis and how God used Noah (the kid's name) to build an ark to save his family and any he could convince to join him along with the animals. Funny how that worked out.

2012 is just plain fun! It never takes itself to seriously and is able to make fun of itself. Yes the dialogue is corny, yes the story line is weak, and yes there are plot holes galore. But Director Roland Emmerich simply has fun destroying western culture. The special effects are tremendous. John Cusack and Amanda Peet do an excellent job. And newcomer Chiwetel Ejiofor is great!
Go see it on the big screen. If you don't take this movie more seriously than it takes itself, you'll enjoy the special effects, you'll get into the narrative, and you'll laugh. This isn't a movie you're going to buy on DVD or watch two years from know on a Saturday afternoon.

I went to see this movie for the special effects, not the story. Suffice it to say that there's no need to develop a character when the end of days is upon us! So, see this movie for fun and not intellectual stimulation and you'll enjoy it. Popcorn is a must!

An hour (or more) too long. Slow, cheesy acting, copy cat plot (Independence Day, Titanic, ,etc.) and a ho hum ending. The effects were so ridiculous they were silly. Save your money. If you are still interested, wait for the DVD.

With all the hype centered around this movie, I was really looking forward to seeing it. This movie was a bust. The script was poorly written and the plot went no where. Although the visual effects were cool, they were not enough to keep you interested in this dreadfully long movie. Would not recommend seeing it in the movie theater. If you want to watch it at some point, wait until it comes out on DVD. Trust me, you'll be glad you didn't waste your money or time at thee movie theater.

Too often people go into movies expecting way too much, I mean it is about the potential end of the world. HA!~
Great special effects. Liked the storyline. A few cheesy moments, not many, and some I think were accidental.
Recommend to see in the theatre for the special effects. Not worth seeing a second time though.
