I wanted to give this movie 4 1/2 stars only because the director caved in to the Muslim Faction and didn't destroy the Muslim Cube in where ever it is like he destroyed the Christian sites, the Vatican , etc. Special effects are GR8, the story line is so-so but the effects make up for it. See this one , you will like it

If i hadn't been waiting eagerly for so long to see this movie, I think it would have been even better. Some parts of the movie didn't quite make sense, but then again I wasn't looking to see a scientifically correct movie... I was looking to see a good "end of days" type movie. Success!

This movie was an awesome experience for my family and myself. The kids wanted to see "New Moon" (again!) but I convinced them to see "2012". I'm glad I did. I entered 2012 expecting SFX and got them. A LOT. Now a movie of such apocalyptic vision can be expected to be a little over the top, but this went a little too far.
This movie just made a mockery of the possible. The car escape, the small plane, etc. - just WAY too unbelievable. In the midst of all this destruction, I was almost laughing at how ridiculous the scenarios were... Apart from the obvious plot holes that can be expected in any sci-fi film.
I would still recommend it. But with the caveat that you go in expecting nothing more than the elaborate roller coaster thrill ride that it is. With a little restraint, this could have been a MUCH better film. YMMV

Terrific mix of terror, humor, realism, ridiculousness and Hollywood schlock. This movie manages to maintain real heart which keeps it from feeling common or cynical. Many fine performances and surprisingly complex characters for what ought to be nothing more than a summer blockbuster. A real roller coaster of a disaster flick. Money well spent.

This movie sets you on the edge of your chair and keeps you there. The special effects are spectacular! Some of the science is a little bit off, but that doesn't spoil the excitement. John Cusack is the perfect lead for movies like this, but Chiwetel Ejiofor steals the show. The 2 hrs 38 min flies by & feels much faster. See this one on the big screen to get the full effects and sound. Highly recommended.

Granted this is a very extreme view of what could happen type movie and the lead characters narrowly escape ever time their lives are on the line, for 2 hours and 38 mins. The CGI is fantastic and science behind the disaster is more probable than I had expected. Not a perfect technical story line but still enjoyable for the sci-fi watcher. I will purchase this in Blu-Ray when it comes out.

We should have been warned not to see this movie. Repetitive escape scenes. One in a car, one in a small plane and then one in a bigger plane. Preachy dialogue throughout and a thirty year old scientist calling all the shots for humanity was just ridiculous.
No, I do not recommend this movie.

The special effects in this movie were fantastic and well worth the ticket. John Cusack filled the role but didn't shine like a star should. The best acting was that of Woody Harrelson and the fellow that played the Russian billionaire..... both very memorable.

This movie had everything, a great story line, special effects were awesome. It also leaves a little to the imagination as to what would happen if such an event ever occured and how man in general would handle.
