Watching 2102 was a life-changing moment. As I exited the theatre I commented to my friend, "I have now seen the most over the top motion picture ever produced." ...not that I am saying that this is necessarily a good thing.Everything that has been learned about science, astronomy, geology, and history through the course of humanity's rise, has been ignored by the writers and makers of this film. But, it's lively!

Last night we watch 2012. Did it live up to the hype? We constantly have our world disaster movies, and many of them are pretty good. My favorite is Day After Tomorrow and Armageddon.
2012 had excellent special effects, but the story was lagging. The usual divorced man with kids, and is then reunited with his family story is getting a little old. And this movie didn't help.
Overall, action was good, lots of special fx, and edge of your seat moments, but the story could have been better and many of the tense moments, could have been more realistic.

If you are impressed by good special effects, this is definitely the movie for you. The story line is kind of cheesy & predictable, but after the first half hour, becomes an edge-of-the-seat action-packed adventure. Maybe a few too many situations where the main characters barely make it through alive, with the secondary characters dying but I can't say it wasn't exciting.

Great movie and plot with superb graphics and effects. Ending was slightly unreal when massive archs bumped in to rocks and survived.

I must admit that it started off well but once I got to the middle of the movie i was like come on get to the point! They totally ruined the magnificent concept of the Mayans story of 2012. The effects were great but the actual story of 2012 claims that NO ONE survives it so its kind of dumb how a limo can beat the cracking Earth. Maybe if the movie would have started off with a Mel Gibson's "Apocolypto" type feel to where they actually show the Mayans predicting it, and then gradually ascending to present day THEN it would have been way better and more understandable for the people who do not know the story. The movie was very corny in some part; i.e.. saving a dog while your trying to save your life?? Come on now!

This may be the dumbest movie ever. You have to suspend belief to a "Lord of the Rings" level as it's entirely preposterous.
But... It's definitely a thrill ride.It starts strong and is pretty nonstop action for the first 2/3 of the movie. Lots of great effects and, as a Giants fan, thoroughly enjoyed watching Los Angeles disintegrate.
But it just keeps getting stupider and stupider as time goes on. If you've ever seen a movie before, any movie, the cliches are telegraphed and numerous.
So, if you're going to spend ten bucks on this thing, leave your brain at the door. You won't need it...

If you love this type of movie, you will be blown away by the special effects. A bit preachy and the story line follows the formula, but it is still very well done and will keep you on the edge of your seat during some of the action scenes! If you go in without expectations and just take the movie in for what it is without over analyzing it like some of the other reviewers on here, this is an excellent movie.
The special effects were amazing and sure they were over the top at some points but that was one of the best movies I have seen in a while.
For what it was, it could not have been done better. Go see it.

The meticulous special effects was really the star of the movie, everyone else was in a supporting role. Glad to see Danny Glover again. What I notice is that there's a scene where they claim that all ground communications are down, only later then that a character will call his friend via cel phone. I suppose one cel relay antenna survived the earthquakes and tsunamis. The rich Russian character stole the show.

Great graphics and special effects. I appreciated that the movie ended with a glimmer of hope. There were some parts that lacked plausability. You had to leave your sense of reason at the door. But the movie contained a lot of action and was very entertaining.

It does have a lot of action. The plot is conceivable. But, how many times do we have to see two hung up divorcees bantering over their children, with an interested third party waiting in the wings? Too bad the monk didn't have a bimbo on the side! That would have been novel! Movie is too long, but worth it for the computer graphics and scenery. I really got off on the wave coming over the himalayan mountains.

great special effects and action. However, at times the dialogue was not up to the level of the effects. There were some good shots in the movie, but then there were some dumb shots which looked like some reality show shots taken with the Handycam.

The premise, though barely plausible seems improbable and the final salvation seems unlikely. That said, it's a typical disaster movie filled with amazing special effects and an over-abundance of hairs-breadth escapes - after two hours I was pretty numb to it. This is a movie that did keep me on edge for a large portion of it. The effects were awesome, and the movie was certainly better than most. The ending was a bit of a let down, however.

If you like roller coasters you will love this movie. The special effects in this movie are awesome. However, some of them were too incredible to be believed. The storyline is a good morality tale. I would see it again.

Over all this movie did not live up to the hype. But the special effects did. And it was jam packed with those goodies. There were moments of held breath and even a few sniffles but it was also overly sappy and implausible. Bottom line, I was glad to see it on the big screen - it was worth the pirce of the ticket.
