This is an awesomely movie with fantastic special effects, non-stop action and an interesting premise. I was not expecting an intellectual thriller, so this film delivered what the trailers promised and more...an over-the-top (literally) view of a worst-case cataclysmic event with a few great surprise twists.

What a dumb movie. This one will be in the $3.99 bin right next to "The day after tomorrow" in no time. Good special effects here and there but it doesnt make up for the 2 hour and forty minute session of p/ss/ng and moaning. Watching incompetent people who place too much value on thier lives scurry about trying to overcome an imminent death is not my idea of entertainment. These big budget films nowadays rely on special effects while putting no thought into anything else. I dont recommend this film to anyone under any circumstances.

There is something to be said for Hollywood's take on the "End of the world as we know it" genre..not too many films can capture the imagination AND basic human feelings. In my opinion, you must watch "Deep Impact" as an appetizer to "2012" for the whole cataclysmic effect in your mind, and how we, as the main species on Earth, can somehow achieve our salvation from impending disaster, at least in a film. "2012" will definitely have you enthralled from the beginning and have you thinking as you walk out of the theater, "what would I do?"

Typical end of the world movie. Everything was cliche and predictable. Special effects were great. Storyline was lagging and recycled. I was having very high hope from this move but it turned out little disappointment. The theme of the movie was good, but after some excitement scene there were some slow scene which finds me boring. I thought the movie will be thrilling but it was not.

The movie only addresses the Mayan prophecy in passing, as a casual connection at best, which is what the whole premise is supposed to be based on…As for the ending, some afternoon fresh air in the sun, I don't know about anyone else, but if I were a survivor on that ark, I'd be pretty freaked out about dealing with 7 billion people losing their lives in the blink of an eye...The movie again examines it in passing - the anguish of lost loved ones, the horrifying realization that the world we knew is gone forever...

This by far has to be the biggest budget disaster movie of all time. All others over the years pale in comparison, as this is not just about 1 earthquake in LA or a Towering Inferno in another city. This disaster affects the entire world. The special effects were done so well that I can only imagine that is how it would be if something like the movie portends will happen. However, so much was happening at one time it was hard to keep up with the fast pace during disaster sequences, which are spaced out pretty good (don't all happen at one time).

This movie was awesome! The special effects will give you chills as the earth gets completely destroyed and you get to see it happen. The story was funny and entertaining, it's not meant to be taken seriously but more to get the movie to the next scene of destruction (it works).
The people complaining about how fake it was or how it didn't talk about the Mayans enough are just movie geeks. Who cares? I wanna see the limo drive through the collapsing building! People cheered throughout, it was epic.

Yes, the first 5 minutes of the movie is great, but it was WAY too long, a bunch of cheesy moments - and the ending, C'Mon, REALLY? I really expected more, I LOVE John Cusack, and he is a great actor, but I was disappointed.
