Exciting, suspenseful, awesome visual effects and a very reasonable plot. If you want to be well entertained for 2.5 hours this is a movie you should see. I find it amazing that some people have written that ther is no plot ! This is a story of the world comming to an end and the plot is how a certain family struggles to survive. There are practically NO boring moments. It is non stop action that will keep you on the edge of your seat. I had reservations about giong to this movie because of some of the reviews. If I had known "2012" was going to be this good I would have certainly have made a special plan to see it. If you liked "Independance Day" and "Jurassic Park" you probably will love this movie

Reading some of these critical reviews it comes to mind that expectations can taint the movie. I had no expectations and enjoyed the movie from start to end. It was totally un-realistic to the point of being absolutely hilarious. It was almost as though this happened in a comic book. Think Raiders of the Lost Ark. The special effects were well done and i thought spaced out just fine. If you want to go see a serious movie avoid this one, but if your just looking to be entertained then by all means watch the end of the world.

This is a wonderful film. There is so much action and you just cannot imagine what will happen next. It is very realistic and shows how quickly things can change and how hard some people can be against those less fortuneate. Special effects alone are worth viewing this movie on the big screen. Story line is not bad , the whole world humanity thing. Does get cheesy towards the end but they need to appeal to the masses. Like "The Day After Tomorrow", don't go to this film expecting to encounter anything even vaguely resembling an understanding of basic science, nor in this case about the Mayan astronomical calendar. That's not why most people would go, anyway, but it's a bit disappointing that there's not even a hint of research or reality. Furthermore, everything about the plot is very sadly predictable, and I rolled my eyes quite a few times. Still, it's a great, rolling romp through disaster; the special effects are super fun and I thoroughly enjoyed the film. It's not good... it's just fun.

Less than halfway through, my entire group of 8 was WISHING the world would end so we wouldn't have to see the rest of this terrible movie. John Cusack is one of my favorite actors, but to see him and other talented people have to LABOR through this terrible, cheesy script was too much to bear. Sure, the special effects were awesome...but they should have taken half the budget spent on those effects and used it to buy a better screenwriter!!!!

I thought this movie had very good special effects. It also had a good story line, although some of it was unrealistic. That is the case with a lot of movies though. I would say that the plot and story line we've all seen many times before. Armaggeddon, the Day After Tomorrow, etc. But the special effects are very good and the acting was good. There is also plenty of action which is needed since it's quite a long movie. I would recommend it to friends. All in all, while it was a good movie ,it wasn't a great movie.

Let’s start with the special effects they were spectacular. This movie keeps you on the edge of your seat throughout the complete movie. I did not even notice the time. There was a couple of lame parts, but for the most part what an eye opener of the possibly of what could happen in our future to come. This movie was really good and needs to be seen on the big screen to get all the effects. This would have blown you out of the water if it was 3D.

This is a really good action/adventure movie which would be excellent if it were 38 minutes shorter. It had me on the edge of my seat almost the entire time. I know there's a plot here here somewhere. It even shows up once in awhile.
For action and special effects this movie stands out as one of the busiest movies ever. For social interest or moral fiber it also has a lot of that.

It would be more satisfying to see a disaster movie that at least "could" happen. After awhile, the fireball dodging, falling building dodging heaving pavement dodging antics turn the mood to parody instead of intensity. Cool CGI and special effects will be enough for some, but to really attain the level of memorable, there does need to be some character development and depth of plot. Andy why on earth does every single movie coming out of Hollywood have to be deconstructionist? Enough already. How about heroes and protagonists that truly are admirable, not terribly flawed with a few admirable inklings thrown in? It was so overdone,overdramatic, unrealistic, just aweful! If you're gonna make a movie about the end of days, make it REALISTIC! This was by far the cheeziest movie!! Yuk! 1/2 a star!

Slow. I was ready to go by the second hour. Slept off and on during the movie. The effects were well done, but too few too spred out. They should have cut the movie in half and then it would have been great. Will say Woody Harrelson rocked in his performance. My group talked about his character all night.

Even though the movie was almost 3 hours, I was never bored and never looked at my watch. I found the movie refreshing, in that one could enjoy this movie's details without the restriction of time and be able to deliver a great story about an event that could really happen! The visual effects and acting were excellent, as was the cast. I give it 5 stars.

Great movie! I don't get to the theater very often and was very pleased that I made it to this one! I must be getting old but was glad to see a great movie without all the bad language and nudity! I can go see it again and be able to take my kids to a very exciting movie. I also tend to fall asleep during long movies but never batted an eye!

Although the special effects were spectacular, they could have delivered the same storyline in about 1/2 the time. Movie is almost 3 hours long and starts to wane by the 2nd hour. Would not recommend wasting the money or time at the theatre. Rent the movie so you can FF through the scenes that are redundant.
