2012 had amazing effects, but most of all it hit the nail on the head when it shows how much our government hides from us. This was a great movie, but could have been shortened by at least 20 min. or so, it was really just too long. Movies are at their best at about an hour and 45 min or 2 hrs, any longer gets to be too much.

If parting the red sea in the Ten Commandments was an iconic movie moment, then 2012 is a quantum leap in movie magic for all-time. For some, the disaster sequences will make you think what you'd do at that very moment; after the movie you might have that same conversation with your friend(s)/wife and or family. While Danny Glover brings a level of moral authority to his character, Chiwetel Ejiofer and Oliver Platt morality play forces one to think whom they would side with in trying to save the human race. Additionally, Woody Harrelson adds a level of needed quirkiness. The russian characters are over the top sterotypes; John Cusack performance could have fallen in the ocean like the west coast.

This movie was all that I expected it to be & more. John Cusack gave an amazing performance as always. I wish we could have seen more of Danny Glover but he did an awesome job as well. Chiwetel Ejiofor's performance as the supporting actor in this film was suburb in his role. The suspense of this movie had me setting on the edge of my seat the whole movie! Being a Sci-Fi nut I totally enjoyed the futuristic ending aspect of this movie. I will definitely add this to my DVD collection once it comes out!

2012 is the best representative of the Disaster Movie genre since Armageddon. In Jackson Curtis (John Cusack), you have the perfect hero. He is a flawed man dealing with his own problems who is thrust into greatness. He did not ask for it, but did not turn his back when others needed help. The effects were stunning and sometimes scary. I spent much of the movie on the edge of my seat and chewing on my fingernails! Way to go!

Contrary to many of the reviews I've seen posted, I thought this was a good movie.
(Thankfully, I didn't use reviews as my decision making)
I was on the edge of my seat from about 10 minutes in almost until the end.
My only concern was the association of 2012 with the title. In fact it's really a modern day version of a Noah's Arc movie, including the animals. Despite this obvious similarity, in my opinion, it's not a religious movie in any way -- unless you count ALL religions!

A movie that needs to be seen in digital format for the effects. The story actually was very interesting. I thought it would just be good effects but there was actually a lot of conflict and getting to know the characters. Woody Harrelson and John Cusack played the parts well. It is always nice to see Woody playing in a movie. You actually felt for the characters in the movie. The kids in the movie were played well, you felt for them with the divorce thing. Overall great effects and a pretty good story to follow. I love how they did the ark with the animals and everything.

A complete thrill ride. The movie theater in Pasadena that I saw the movie at was very full and you could count on one hand the number of people that got up to get popcorn or go to the bathroom the entire 2.5 hours. That in itself speaks loud. This was a very entertaining movie that everyone should see on the big screen. The movie got a big reaction out of the crowd when during the movie the new crew reports that the entire city of Pasadena had been wiped out. Especially when we were all sitting in Pasadena watching it. Go see the movie, you can't help but like it.

If you love epic action movies that also manage to have a heart (think Titanic), this is the movie for you. Jam packed with seasoned actors like John Cusack, and Woody Harrelson who give great performances there are also a lot of unfamiliar but notable performers in this movie. From start to finish this movie delivers stunning action sequences that are definitely appreciated on the big screen. This movie, although sometimes predictable, makes you care about the characters even if you see their inevitable demise coming. Close to three hours in length this movie had no lulls but tons of white knuckle moments. Definitely worth its price of admission.

Better than "Day After Tomorrow". Not as realistic as that or "Titanic". Great special effects. The whole destruction of LA will be iconic, like Paris was in "Armageddon".
Bad hero relationship. John Cusack did the best with the weak role . The doctor/pilot plot was excellent.
Science unrealistic, as well as manufacturing the ships on the down-low. Poor realism on the in-the-water scenes. I would like to find enough water to raise the sea level worldwide by 20000 feet.

Some of the effects were really great, like part of California being swept into the sea. But when our hero and his family drive a stretch limo and just are able to jump over crumpling roads or barely under falling buildings, it gets stupid and too implausible. When a pilot who has hardly flown takes a twin airplane and narrowly misses one catastrophe after another, the movie loses its suspense. Due to significant lack of plot and minimal character development, I feel this movie is a caricature of better films such as Independence Day. I actually started looking at my watch half way thru the film.

The movie plays on some real theories of resurfacing that affects other planets in our system and maybe someday, in the very distant future, our own.
The visual effects were excellent, for that alone I gave a star above average. The plot was easy and the characters were just ok, except for Woody Harrelson, he was great.
You'll walk away from this movie impressed by the visuals though not affected by the massive amount of destruction and loss of life, you will not get choked up even for a moment and might even laugh as the main characters make witty comments as they narrowly miss death unlike the masses they just passed by.
