The movie was very good. I enjoyed the first 45 minutes where we get to meet the characters and there are some nice moments, then the action kicks into high gear, the scene where Cusack and his family escape from L.A. in his limo is an epic scene. The movie is long at 2 hours and 38 minutes, but it's necessary for a movie about the end of the world.

This movie captures your curiosity because everyone has imagined what the end of the world would be like. Seeing the world fall apart was great and they did an excellent job. But the remaining portion of the movie left you feeling like you got robbed as the plot was pretty dad-gum simple. Is it a good way to spend two and a half hours? Sure, but you won't be blown away saying, "Oh my gosh that was awesome!".

Really a fun show to watch on the Big Screen, which is why I didn't wait for the DVD release. The special effects were out of this world & I found myself glued to the screen. The script & acting rapidly became cartoonish. The premise of the bloodthirsty human sacrificing Mayans having some special glimpse into the end-of-the-world is preposterous, but at least the movie wasn't antagonistic towards Christians or the Bible . Also quite a nod is given to Judeo Scriptures with the inclusion of the new-beginning hope-for-all-humanity Arks at the end of the movie. Perhaps Hollywood could learn quite a lesson here: STOP being antagonistic towards this nation's majority faith (Judeo-Christianity).

Movie is a bit long and the actors do a good job given what they're got to work with.
Let's be honest, you're not going to see this for the acting. You are going to see this for the sheer spectacle of the earth's destruction. On that point, you wont' be disappointed. The combination of visual and audio effects is amazing.
Should you see it? Yes, but do so while it's showing in a large auditorium with a good sound system. Do that and you'll get what you paid for.

This was a great movie overall. One of the best movies I have seen lately, I wasn't disappointed at all. Although it was totally unrealistic at times not unlike most 'end of the world' movies, the special effects were so good that I didn't care that it wasn't realistic. It was also a great movie for my teenage kids to go to. I was on the edge of my seat for most of the movie! I did actually go home after the movie and looked up the Mayan calendar online.

A very simple idea of a movie in which the world prepares for its end and politics shows its ugly head..Mankind shows that they it can be both human and inhuman and science points the way to salvation.. The action generated by modern movie magic certainly appears real as the world falls apart, literally . The characters were a little hollow but there is a limited time to reveal any great depth. You will recognize the true flavor of the human soul as you see the movie unfold that maybe the focus on character depth is not needed. The movie was rich with special effects that were original. However the movie was typical of all movies that deal with the end of the world. At certain parts the movie does keep you on the edge of your seat! I do think the movie was dragged out a little too long. But overall it was a good movie. "2012" gets a split decision. The Special Effects, Cinemotography and Visual Effects get 5 stars and the storyline receives 1 1/2 stars. There was no storyline or plot, plain and simple. There is an unexpected catastrophic disaster that nearly destroys the world as we know it. I wanted to like this movie but, sad to say, it was dumb. They should have spent more money on character development script writing and less on special effects. However, if you like constant CG and, "Oh my gosh - we just got out of that one" type movies, this would be the movie for you. I do like special effects (and this movie did have some good ones), however, I also like to care about the characters and this movie did not manage to promote that caring. I came away from the movie thinking: "So what". The DVD will not make it into my permanent collection.

I think in my opinion this was a great movie. Most people that give it a low rating are people who dont know or researched the possiblity of crust displacement, and its effects. I already knew the storyline and actually enjoyed the characters in movies previously, so just them on the screen was enough for me. I can agree there are parts of the movie that i dont seem to think can actually happen(most of it is them flying like they are combat pilots having minimal training) but in overall this movie is the illest. Must watch.

The special effects make this movie worth watching while the dialogue is often lame and the story-line is fairly implausible, especially the conclusion. The oveall suspense is made full and complete with the carefully crafted underlying relationships questions about the meaning of family, of life, of love. The movie wove in the aspects of religion and science in a very plausable way. My only distraction was the Woody Harrelson character. He didn't get the disturbed fanatic feeling that would have made sense and instead you are left wondering why he was necessary at all. But, then the amazing CG would redirect your attention and you forget about that transgression. Amazing graphics layered on a carefully crafted and meaningful story sitting on top of some of the best suspense ever.

Decent scenes but the limo driving through all that destruction was a stretch. Danny Glover as the President was the WORST selection EVER of a president in a movie. First, he's a terrible actor and second an anti-American Socialist follower. Should be banned from the US. I would not have bought a ticket to see the movie if I knew he was in it. I will do a better job next time of screening who is in a move. MY FAULT.

The writing and acting were HORRIBLE. The only thing worth spending any money on were the special effects and Woody Harrelson (as the crazy guy who had it right all along). Even the special effects became ridiculous when you realize that John Cusack really can't be that good a driver, avoiding all lethal obstacles, and his ex-wife's boyfriend couldn't be that good a pilot with only a few lessons on a small engine plane to avoid all fall magma. Completely impossible but stunning to watch.

John Cusack was brilliant. I love his acting it's always great. Thank God the Producer/Director chose John Cusack, because any other actor lead role, the movie would of suck and sunk under water. The stroy-line was amazing, everything made sense, the graphics were crazy good, various parts of the movie made me feel like I was in a Roller Coaster. The movie overall was exciting, it had everything; you're going to cry, smile, laugh it up, and even cheer... It seriously focuses on the fact that you eihter have to be very important, work in the white house, be very smart, have lots of money, or know somebody that knows somebody in order to survive. The movie was AWESOME!!!!
