A gorgeous movie and a worthy addition to the Terminator mythology. It does much to de-emphasize T3 and bring the franchise back up toward the standard set by the first two movies.
Cons: The Arnold cameo was forced and pointless. The ending was flawed. There are some unanswered questions. Insufficient character development.
Pros: The post J-Day world was portrayed perfectly- dark, gritty, and scary. The Skynet hardware was gorgeous. We got our first real look at a world only glimpsed in the other movies. T:S created a great precursor to the future scenes we've seen in the other movies, and had many, many subtle (and not-so-subtle) tie-ins to the other movies. McG and crew clearly care about the franchise, and it showed.

Really enjoyed it, but had issues with the hollywood-ized combat and visual inconsistencies. Dumb things a successful guerilla fighter wouldn't do. (blind himself with a flare at eye level, ruining his night vision) Boulders visible in long shots magically disappear when marcus' body skips down the river. Explosions that don't effect ears and balance. Clothing and hair that remains unsinged by blasts and flames. The heart donation was an unbelievable device I would have expected from a movie 40 years ago, before people were knowledgeable about tissue matching and rejection. You just can't ignore science when you write a science fiction movie. Good acting, mediocre writing/editing.

I've been rather quite skeptical of sequels. Lately the quality of films coming out of Hollywood has been less than impressive. This movie breaks the mold. A great sequel/prequel/alternate timeline continuum. I'd recommend that everyone go see this even if they haven't seen the others, although it will mean more if you've seen the others.

I guess some didn't enjoy it as I did, which I don't know why. I think the action scenes were good, lively, and engaging. Though the acting could have been a bit more intense, (but then again, how intense do you need to be if you are running from killer robots?) it was a believable story for a post apocalyptic world. I think it was great! Go see it!

This movie was good in filling in the story from the past Terminator movies. The only thing I can think of that I didn't like was after the helicopter crash scene when the terminator pulls of John Connor's boot he magically has his boot back on 2 seconds later.

There was potential within this film, but I'm sad to say it didn't live up to it. I don't know whether that is the fault of the actors, the writers, the directors, or a mixture of the three. Sam Worthington was great in this, as was Anton Yelchin and their characters were the most interesting. Christian Bale on the other hand was god awful, if you want to see him doing that bad Batman voice for two hours go see this. I'm beginning to think the guy is seriously overrated. The plot holes were big and glaring, even if this was a reboot of the franchise it should have either gone all the way like Star Trek did, or stayed faithful to the material of the other Term films or the cancelled tv show, instead it just kinda does everything halfway.

I knew it was risky when I saw this lame director on the project and the movie was true to form. Unfortunately it was the his form. Which is meaningless narrative, terrible dialogue, out of sync with the narrative and cheesy score, all laid over some very pretty shots. It's nice looking, some of the machines are neat, and the surprise cgi guest cameo was the best thing about the movie, but my Labrador could have written a better script and the narrative more holes in it than Charlie's angels. This clown should never be allowed to direct anything remotely serious. I'm a big fan of the franchise, but this is a setback it may not recover from. Ultimately, it's a bad movie.

I have never been so hyped up for a movie in my whole life. When I went to go see it, I was simply amazed by McGs work. He surpasses T3 with flying colors but he fails to meet expectations of the first two entries of the Terminator franchise. The action awesome and it met to my expectations. The acting was terrific, Sam Worthington was fantastic to say the least and Christian Bale is the best John Connor so far. The tone of the movie was a lot darker than the previous three and the places where McG took it was simply amazing. This is the only movie that has ever encouraged me to write a review about a movie. I really recommend that you go see this movie and enjoy it as much as i did!

Weak. If I wanted to watch an homage to the Terminator series I would just watch the trilogy over again. The story was weak at best, which forced good actors to make more out of the script than was actually on the page. The throwback lines of "I'll be back," the digital Arnold, the use of motorcycles, made me feel like they were spoon feeding me CG sugar. It seemed like the director knew the script blew and had so much money to do stuff with that they just threw in junk from movies they thought were cool. If you are a 13 year old boy you might like the movie, other than that save your money or go see "Star Trek" again.

I went in prepared for Terminator:Salvation to suck. Despite some less than great writing (which makes for somewhat wooden performances) the distinctive visuals were enough to compensate and make this worth watching. Anton Yelchin's performance as a young Kyle Reese provides the emotional core for this movie and distinguishes himself among a sea of mostly 2 dimensional characters. There are moments in which the CG is a bit obvious, but there are some really cool robots to look at. If you liked Aliens, The Road Warrior & Apocalypse Now, you might actually enjoy this flick.

My friends and I really enjoyed this movie, never a dull moment and had hot action scenes. The new terminator is a hottie and even though terminator had a few corny moments, overall, it was a great ride and I plan on buying it on dvd!

For the second time in less than five years, Christian Bale has revitalized a dying franchise. Terminator Salvation is the Terminator movie that I have been waiting for: One where John Conner is a grown up and is facing the detiny that we've only heard about for the last 25 years. We see the machines, we see the battles, we see the factory where Arnold's character was built. Also, Sam Worthington does an excellent job as the cyborg protector of both Conner and Reese. That man has a bright future ahead of him.

This is the first time I have ever been motivated to review a movie online. In this case, that is because the film is so utterly horrendous that I want to save others the pain of sitting through it. I use the word "pain" intentionally... this was absolutely PAINFUL to sit through. Horrible pacing and direction. Terrible overacting. Plot holes everywhere... Swiss cheese doesn't have anything on this plot! Do yourself a favor: skip it--in the theaters AND on DVD. My vote? Terminate the terminator.

Terminator Salvation was an excellent return for our hero John Connor. The story line was fluid, and the twist on the terminator in this one was excellent. Throw in a CGI Arnold cyborg, and its done, really looking forward to more of this series.

Couldn't help over hearing some critics pan the movie and would not read the reviews in the papers. Normally don't listen to them and I am glad they were so wrong. All the stars had about equal time, dialouge and plot made sense. CGI! Review title is it, WOW!! Trouble is it was just a little too short, when it was over I was still vibrating from the rush and wanting more. That's why only four stars. Dedication to Stan (Inventor of the T-800) Winston was perfect. Can't wait for the next one, oh yea, it leaves you with that hole to be filled. Here's another one for my DVD library.

It did not compare to the first 2 Terminator movies which is a shame because Bale is a much more capable actor than Arnold. Weak plot and storyline and poor character develpment. Hollywood movies are such grabage these days! They are essentially glorified video games. Being 46 I have seen decades of Hollywood movies. Things are supposed to get better not worse!

I'm not familiar with Christian Bale's work (this is the first of his movies I've seen), but I thought he was flat and wooden as the John Connor character. The Blair Williams character added the only significant plot tension when she released the Marcus Wright character and saw his essential humanity under the cyborgian overlays.
Overall, better than the third Terminator movie, but still mostly predictable, mindless fare. No wonder I don't go to many movies.

They should have left it as is with Terminator and T2 Judgement day.
This movie never drew me in as a viewer. The CG was absolutely horrible and looked so fake. The make up on Marcus looked like a high school halloween contest.
Christian Bale always seems as if he's trying way too hard and thought his role as John Connor was very mono. I thought Anton Yelchin (Kyle Reese) did a better acting job.
How many more spin-offs of "nice" Terminators can you make...

I could've waited until it came out on DVD/BD. Some of the action scenes/special f/x were a bit to fast leaving me wanting more. Even my 9 & 14 yo boys thought the previews were better then the actual movie. Was I supposed to figure out that Wright was metal near the beginning of movie? Dont get me wrong, I'll probably see the next one. PEACE!

I was impressed and thought this movie was great! The simulation of the 1980's Arnold was incredible and helped lend to the authenticity of being a true "Terminator" movie. They even got an actor to recreate the younger Kyle Reese who sounded like Michael Beene did in the original "Terminator". This was a great movie and, after seeing all the "Terminator" movies in the theater, this was a definite topper!!

I loved the movie because they added the story and it all fits at the end and how they added Arnold S. in the movie. It was my favorite terminator yet.
