The best part about the movie was that it lacked the burden of any expectations since Terminator 3 had almost been the death knell for the franchise. I was expecting the worst but was more than surprised to find McG actually can direct! It's a whole lot of fantastic fights and explosions, and the only time T S falters is when you have to follow the "plot." The time travel thing is silly, unlike Star Trek. (I can't believe I just said that.) It's very Mad Max what with the mute child tagging along... All that said, it looks great, it cooks along at a rapid clip and it's going to make Sam Worthington a BIG STAR. Bale is merely so-so but now I can see why he was extra crabby on the set.

The visual effects were excellent. It had an interesting storyline. It helped to know the background story of John Connor, I would like to see the future of Skynet and how it still affects the human race.

Overall the movie was a good flick, worth seeing for fans of the Terminator franchise. Non stop action with plenty of explosions and other general mayhem. It has a good story line as well, doing a good job as a prequel introducing John Conner of the future and how he came to lead the resistance.

It seems to me that the critics dissing this film had unrealistic expectations. As Terminator movies go, this was quite good. Effects were very impressive, action scenes well-done, and the dialog and story were just fine. Sure, some things were a bit over the top and McG indulged in a few action movie cliches, but there were moments that exceeded my expectations. If you're expecting more than the other three Terminator movies, this will disappoint. If not, you will like it. It may also be that some critics are too accustomed to seeing Arnold in a lead role. Here Christian Bale holds his own, Sam Worthington is excellent, and Anton Yelchin, too.

Probably one of the worst films I've ever seen. Very disappointed that I wasted 2 hrs out of my life on this. Absolutely no plot. The fit that Bale had while shooting was probably due to his realization that the film was going to be an utter failure .

You don't have to be a follower of Terminator (even though I am) to love this movie. The action, special effects and story line were awesome. It's really amazing where we've come in "Movie Magic". We were on the edge of our seats the whole time. My husband even said for about 20 minutes, I was clinching his arm. Great, Great movie. I would see it again right now!!!

Great action movie. I was on the edge of my seat most of the time. Ended on a hopeful note and even had a great underlying moral message. Didn't top the orginal and part 2, but I think that's impossible. Still a great runner up and better than part 3 for sure.

I didn't expect too much because I figured the creators of this film wanted to go their own way with this franchise. I respect that and expected nods to the past and those nods are in this movie. My biggest gripe however, is the brownshirt, national socialist party paraphernalia. I kept expecting someone to yell comrade, nien or, "the proletariat struggle will prevail," or something crazy like that! Anyway, the special effects are incredible and I really appreciate the scale of the robot animation and how the actors interacted with the robots. The actors did a good job but the writers were tripping.

Action sequences are reminiscent of his Mission Impossible work. Bale brings his Batman intensity, falling short of tearing all the lights down. Worthington plays the strong quiet type admirably, giving Eastwood a run for his money. Plot, as usual, is riven with time-travel paradoxes. Script is riddled with one-liners and cliches. Arnie makes a crowd-pleasing "appearance." However, the producers seeking to drain the franchise of every last ounce of energy leave things open for future Terminator outings.

As entertainment goes, this is it. Great special effects, well crafted action sequences, and explosions aplenty (everything explodes). These movies have thier place in everyone's collection. But if you're looking for an amazing plot with clever references to the past Terminators and deep exploration of human nature, you will not find it here. The plot for this film is kin to such plots as Matrix Reloaded; find the key maker and fight everything in the way. Again, the movie is very entertaining, but with sizable plot holes in the little plot it has, it's not much more than a 'cool' movie.

Was expecting a lot out of this movie, hoping that Christian Bale was going to be able to save this franchise as well. This was not the case. There isn't much of a plot, as the director, McG, watches too many Michael Bay films (and believes that loud explosions equal a gripping plot). The movie was good. Not as thrilling as Star Trek in my opinion but it was good enough to hold my attention the entire time. From the trailer I thought this was going to be the last one with an epic 40 minute battle with both machines and humans militaries throwing everything they have at each other.
Another disappointment because of a misleading trailer.Only got few skirmishes Next time I believe they need include as part of the ratings disclosure the number of minutes the battle(s) will last.
Again generally hollywood is so cheap with their movies these days. Transformers aside, I have not seen one movie with a long epic battle in many years. What happen to the old days when they had balls to make movies like LOTR or Matrix, or Blackhawk Down, or Private Ryan .
DO NOT go if your expecting an epic sci-fi war movie.

I'm not saying it sucked out loud. Problem is it had no depth. Robots taking over- we get it. We've heard it in a million movies. There's no spin. That's it. Thwart the evil robots. Got it. What they lacked in any interesting personal relationships they made up for in explosions. I don't think 3 minutes went by without something getting blown up. The concept of changing all we knew will keep the franchise alive (just like Star Trek - go figure) - spins your head trying to keep up with space/time continuum. Like Marcus Wright - Uh? Keep Worthington, loose Bale.

The special effects in this movie are crazy good. The storyline is solid and engaging, and the action is riveting. I agree with another reviewer that the movie was a bit dark, but I guess that's to be expected with a post-apocalyptic war movie. Good acting too. Love the references to T1 & T2.

Not knowing anything about the terminator series other than who the stars are and the basics, I though this movie was AMAZING and the most entertaining movie I've seen in quite a while!!

This was like an 80s movie, made with updated special effects. At random intervals, there's some fire, and some metal in strange shapes, and some skinny girls with makeup on (yes, people still wear makeup in 2018, even if the machines have taken over).
My advice: skip this one, and wait till a new Batman movie comes out for your action flick fix.

Not the deepest movie ever, some plot holes, and Bale occasionally dropped into that batman growl, but in general this was a fun action flick... and can I emphasize "action".
