After the disappointment from the last Terminator movie, this 4th installment in the series is pivotal to the franchise – and it scores a big hit. Indeed, this film is well paced, balancing good storytelling with mesmerizing action sequences. It is also full of surprises, which will make you smile (or scream with approval as many did at the midnight premiere). The acting is excellent, though I would prefer Christian Bale play John Connor with more composure. The direction also gets high marks for staying consistent with Terminator lore. Overall, this is good enough for fans of varying backgrounds.

I left the theater terribly disappointed. There were so many interesting directions this film could have gone in but instead they went with the highly predictable. Special effects do not make a good movie on their own. You still need character development, a decent plot, and you need to stick to some degree of realism (or create believability through your story). I was more than willing to suspend my disbelief for the sake of the story; sadly, I wasn't given story worthy of that.

I had a lot of expectations for this film and I have to say that for the most part, they all were reached. My only gripe would be that this movie wasn't long enough! I know that most people should be familiar with the story behind terminator by now, but you'd be lost if you had no background knowledge. The movie is fast paced and it's one scene after another of action. Great Movie in my opinion.

It was OK. Being a California resident it was hard to see the likeness of Arnold towards the end. I used to love these movies because of him... Now they make me sick because of him. Christian Bale had a VERY unimpressive performance - I did enjoy Marcus' character though. I thought we'd get a deep story, an epic movie, another one for "the ages" after a TERRIBLE Terminator 3, but alas this movie was just a good summer spfx movie with poor to mediocre acting. Check out Angels & Demons or Star Trek.

If you just want an action movie then this is a good movie. After that though its just ok. Rumor was that Christian Bale didn't want to do the movie and whether that is true or not you can pretty much see it in the movie. He's not even really the main character in the movie, Marcus is and as a fan of Terminator somehow I just think John Connor should be the main character in the future. Why is it that the man who is leading the war, supposed to be our saviour has never been the main guy in anything, not really any of the movies or even the TV show. What really could have been a great premise for a Terminator movie, Connor after Judgment Day, turned out to be just incredibly anticlimactic. Go for the action but don't expect much else.

My rating is mostly for the summer cotton candy sugar rush of whiz bang action scenes and mostly cool spfx. The robo-Ducatis were my favorite (yes, they were Ducatis, check the end credits). Like all good candy, it tastes great, but after the inevitable crash, it's "what's opening next week?" Bale was channeling Batman the whole time. Kudos to Sam W for bringing some real angst to his role. Looking for anything thematically deep, even T2 level, then drop one star and take it as is.

Someone needed to save me from this movie. Yeah the action sequences were cool and there was a hot chic to watch and some hot dudes to watch, but did I care about any of the characters? Was there ANY character development for any of the "real" humans? Did I feel like I couldn't go to the restroom in the middle of the movie for fear of missing something? The answer to all these questions is "no." Just go see Star Trek a second time and spend your money and time wisely.

This movie had no redeeming value to speak of. The plot was horrible and ridiculous. You can't detonate nuclear material with conventional explosives. Transplant surgery w/o a donor match, let alone done in a field hospital in the middle of the desert.! And terminators wouldn't know how to find airfields loaded with airplanes and bombs and missles. There was so much ridiculousness to this movie it was sad. The best thing that this movie ever produced was Bale's angry rant during production. His acting is absolutely horrible,. I could go on, but will let others voice their opinions. I just want my 12$ back!

The film sets in place the how Kyle Reese is saved from certain death and leads up to his being sent back to plant the seed required to make John Connor. Mr. Wright is the twist in the film, he was on death row. Fast foward he has been resurrected, and its the year 2018 judgement day has happened. He finds the young Kyle Reese, he rescues Kyle Reese and he brings him to John Connor. Movie was great stuck to the script, witha little flip in it.

I went and saw this movie twice with 2 completely different groups of people and the general reaction was much like mine it was good but not great. They could have work on the story a lot more and add much more depth to the characters (but i did hear that 30-40 mins were cut out so maybe that's where it all is at) But the action is top notch.. I loved all the action pieces..and the effects were great as well. I just hope that this movie does well enough to warrant the next 2 films that they want to make.. I would love to see more!

Terminator Salvation in several ways departs from the old hat Terminator movies and looks at John Conner as the leader of the human resistance. Furthermore, this movie makes SkyNet not just some sort of blunt object that sends out robots to smash and kill. In this movie SkyNet is much more sinister and cunning. As a parent, I would warn that some of the movie’s story line might be a bit much for kids, but its fine for teens. This is a great movie!!

Though the movie was engaging, it did not take advantage of the urgency created by Sarah Connors in the first two movies. I remember much more urgency in her prior to Judgement Day than I was in this entire post-Judgement Day movie.
The movie was a little meandering at times, but I think anyone who saw the first two (the third doesn't deserve much mention) would be compelled to see this one and will most likely be satisfied.
But, it could've been sooo much better.

There are a few minor flaws of logic as there is in any movie. Just keep saying to yourself it is only a movie.
Machines bad. Humans good. You want the good guys to win. Good acting complements the great special effects.
They can keep milking the cow as long as results are this good. This is the best movie of the summer so far.

Anyone who compares this new Terminator movie to the previous ones is missing the point. There's a huge jump in time between this movie and the others. It's not all about a solo terminator chasing John Connor endlessly. It's essentially a guerrilla warfare flick and Connor isn't even the main character, Marcus Wright is. I believe this is the beginning of a new but very different trilogy. If you're into the Terminator lore and mythology you will enjoy this movie; if you're a nitpicking geek that looks too hard, you will not. I don't see how everyone could love Star Trek despite it's many flaws, but just dump all over Terminator Salvation.

LOVED IT!! Terminator Salvation was pure entertainment. Amazing special effects. Lots of fun to watch. I really liked the tie-backs to the original Terminator movie, such as the arrival of Arnold, the setting of a scene that was virtually identical to the factory battle scene and the arm-crawling 1/2 terminator pursuing the main character. I didn't catch any tie-ins to Terminator II, which was OK with me since that movie, although very good, was slick and shiny and Terminator Salvation goes back to the industrial, gritty, war-themed scenario. Terminator Salvation is back on the right track and hopefully Terminator V will be just as good.

As my wife and I left the theater, she pointed out that she was disappointed because there were so many missed opportunities to make the story better: There was no consequence/cost for the human terminator to leave skynet. There could have been linkage between his life and the life of Skynet. John Connor had too easy of a time outsmarting the machines, and the whole heart thing was a cheap shot. It could have been handled more poignantly by having him be badly wounded and reprogramming the stuck terminator to help him and allowing Sam Worthington to help Kyle and then have everyone deal with the conflicts of terminators among men.
It seemed like it was written by a 25 year old who hasn't studied story-making.

some good action seens and effects but the overall story didn't really jive. I dont remember the exact story from the first,but in this movie, the son John C. is alive and (older) than his dad Kyle Reese,so I assume Kyle will grow older and go back to the future to meet John C's mom, but if he did that, which was supposed to "change everything" how is the storyline still going??? Also, wouldnt that change to an alternate future or just be a repeat of history???they should have explained it better. The main character being a robot that skynet created ... huh....? they dont explain enough. I guess if you are just a dimwit who likes explosions and action, its good, but if you want to understand, eh, its whatever.

First....I LOVE the Terminator series!! The whole time travel thing opens up SO many creative story lines and opens the door for unimaginable creativity.
But that didn't happen with this move. I actually got a little bored about 2/3rds of the way through this movie. This just proves that a movie can not be successful on action sequences and CGI alone; it needs a compelling story line.
I think Anderson could've done a lot more with the John Connor character; but chose to put him action sequence after action sequence instead......yawn.
I think I would've rather watched Christian Bale's melt down on TMZ.

Great Effects. Action Packed. Story content? Not so much...There were parts in the story that really didn't make sense. It seemed the story was made to 'fit' the action sequence and what resulted was a plot that was light on content. Ask yourself this..During the chase scene into the lake, why didn't JC use the jammer signal to stop ...well I won't go on...If you got some time to kill and want to see great special effects...go see it...

I had a really fun time with this film. Sure it was a bit predictable, but exciting none the less. CGI Arnold is better than no Arnold at all. Especially since he is naked, as in the first film. Action sequences were exciting and I did grab onto my seat arm rests more than once. It is not an easy movie to understand if you have not seen the originals, so I would recommend seeing at least 1 & 2 before going. My 13 year old daughter has already seen it twice and comments, "the guys in this movie are too great looking" Great praise indeed.

I was so disappointed in this movie which was a shame because I LOVED the first 3. The story line was so poor and there were serious gaps. The acting was pretty good but that could not keep the story together.

Great action sequences, several times I wish I could rewind and watch again. I really felt for the Marcus character. I didn't love the ending but I see why its necessary to setup sequels.

Both my wife and I thoroughly enjoyed this movie. The special effects were awesome, and it wasn't predictable at all. We only had one real question about the plot. When JC is in the holding area for the prisoners. And the machine is pursuing him, why does the Arnold machine rip the first one apart to go after John it'self? Other than that, we loved it.
