I really wanted to like this film, but I found it technically disappointing. The depth of field was very narrow. Things in the background where out of focus and during many of the rapid movement scenes it was impossible to see the objects surrounding the main characters because they were a complete blur. The white queen's castle was a bit gray throughout the film and the sound quality wasn't much better. Many times during the film I found myself adjusting my 3D glasses because it just didn't seem to me that the movie was in 3D anymore.

It appears that if anyone should have been allocated the task of re-inventing the world of Alice and her trip to Wonderland, Tim Burton was the only director suited to do it! His amazingly textured film is equal fairy tale and still macabre in it's vision -- exactly what fans have come to expect from Burton and his work. The performances are never lost and only enhanced by the flick's special effects. In 2d or 3D the film is a masterpiece to behold!

I was thinking that this movie was going to be as dark as other movies Tim Burton has done. I was totally wrong. The time flew bye and I never heard a peep from the audience other than ooohs and aaahs. The 3D effects were awesome. Even better than Avatar and I thought it was awesome too. Johnny Depp played a part similar to the one he played in all the Pirates of the Caribbean movies. That of a man who acted crazy most of the time but always was looking to get the upper hand.

Depp & Burton do it again. My 7 year old daughter loved the movie. It is not too scary (per some reviews) for her. She has read the book and loves it, The movie is in-line w/ the book w/ a few twists, but that is what Burton & Depp do. The rest of the cast delivers as well.

A great experience! TIme constraints led us to the 2D version and it was fabulous. Johnny Depp is a genius! Helena Bonham Carter did a magnificent job and Anne Hathaway was just dazzling! I even loved Tweedle-Dee and Tweedle-Dum! Mia Wasikowska had just the right amount of child-like innocence and warrior woman pizzaz when the situation called for it. She has a great career ahead of her! Recommend it to families, little old ladies like me and anyone who lovs an engrossing tale of fantasy and "right makes might!"

The acting and special effects make this movie worthwhile. Mia Wasikowska is particularly good as Alice. Recommended for anyone who likes going to the movies just to be entertained. If you only like deep and meaningful films, this one probably is not for you.

I'm not entirely sure why, but given the option, I would give this movie 4 1/2, not 5, stars, maybe because one performance seemed not quite right: Anne Hathaway's. I love Anne Hathaway, but her rendering of the White Queen (whether the result of her own or Tim Burton's ideas), was appropriately odd but somehow lacked the polish and naturalness that the other characters produced. That said, the movie itself, overall, was a delight, great fun; It worked: the plot is great, the dialogue is hilarious, the film is a visual pleasure, and the gags (visual, verbal, cultrual) nail it. To critics who are harder on this gem from our beloved Tim Burton, I say, "Off with their heads!"

My wife and I liked the movie. The main reason we wanted to see it was because of Johnny Depp. And he did not disappoint us at all. It was great to see a few moments of the Jack Sparrow character show up in this movie. The storyline could have used a few surprises to try and throw you off a little. This was a GREAT movie. The actors did an excellant job and the graphics were awesome. The only problem is it's NOT a children's movie. I took my four children (ages 5-10) and the 5 & 7 year old cried through the movie. This is not your typical Disney kid movie. I've been a Tim Burton fan for over 20 years. While the visual style of the movie is great, I never made the emotional connection with any of the characters in the movie. I think it's a double edged sword that i had read reviews before going and seeing. Because, at least, my expectations were lowered enough so that I wouldn't hate the film.
All in all, I enjoyed the movie. And I hope there is a directors cut on the DVD. Due to my son asking who my favorite character was and I couldn't answer, I realized that Alice is this decade's "Planet of the Apes".

Critics seem to universal in their condemnation of this film! I don't understand their issues. Everything about this movie was top-notch. (Except maybe Helena Bonham Carter)(but I have difficulties with her in anything)(I guess being married to the director has its perks) I absolutely adored the Cheshire Cat,Doormouse & March Hare. The move is a eye candy no doubt, the visual effects are good. The cast creates an expectation of some good script and character development. The thing that I found so profoundly interesting and perplexing about this film was how Tim Burton (known for such fantastically dark masterpieces as Edward Scissorhands and The Nightmare Before Christmas) was actually able to take what was a rather creepy movie in its original Disney incarnation, and drain the life out of it. It's not particularly dark or even imaginative. I thought, Johnny Depp, Tim Burton, OK here we go! But, please don't make the same mistake I did. Watch it once it comes out on DVD.

Colorful and exciting! Loved by all ages. We watched it twice. The 2nd time to see it in 3d. Especially liked the fact that it was Alice grown up. The Red Witch was FABULOUS!

This movie was awful, we left before it even ended. Have obviously read book and seen other versions of movie, this was the worst. Isn't this a drug movie, why so many kids in the audience?Johnny Depp was ok, a little overacted. Crispin Glover was a shock to see. Anne Hathaway looked like she was in bad drag. Movie was corny, wait for it to come on cable or rent it from redbox.

Are you kidding me? This movie is all bark and no bite. Tim Burton has let me down and Johnny Depp isn't mad enough to be the Mad Hatter-- I need more crazy! I felt like I was watching more Peter Pan than Alice in Wonderland. Effects were okay, but overall I was sorely disappointed. There was so much potential for this film and I'm sad that the man who COULD make it an amazing ride down the rabbit hole just doesn't deliver.
