I expected to see a great movie. After all, it was directed by Martin Scorsese and stars Leonardo DiCaprio along with a great cast.
Wow! Was I disappointed! Poorly shot, no compelling plot, one interesting twist at the end but it never grabbed me and pulled me in.

Overall I thought the movie was very well done. Solid acting! The plot was somewhat predictable for people that either work in the mental health field or have experience with mental illness. Despite being predictable, it still left my wife and I (who also works in this field), trying to determine the the actual diagnosis for Leo's character based on DSM-IV criteria. (Schizo vs.Disassociative disorder). For people w/o any experience around mental illness & forming expectations based on trailers...may be disappointed (the trailer misrepresents the true nature of the film). Rating 4/5. I would recommend it to my friends that can appreciate issues related to mental illness and traumatic events.

First for those who are worried it's a horror movie, it's NOT! Go see it! It is truely captivating. Both Scorsese and DiCaprio did a wonderful job in their roles. I told everybody on Facebook that if they are going to see it- don't let anybody tell you about the plot. That will ruin it for you. It is extremely intense and rivets you. My 17 exchange student, my husband and I all like different movies and we ALL loved this one. The last fourth takes you on a wild twist and turn and run through the Island. I won't say more except I could see it several more times just to look into the details of the plot and actions. It is truely a MUST see. Don't let somebody elses damper talk you out of it!!! In two words: JUST GO!!!!

I wanted to love this movie, but I came out alil disappointed. It was a good movie, just not one of Leonardo Dicaprio's best... I have seen him in better roles. It was a mind twister, but at the end it all makes sense. I do have to say though that Michelle Williams role in his movie was really stupid though...can't say more as to not ruin it for those who haven't seen it, but I didn't like her role in this movie. Glad I went to see it though, but I won't be buying this DVD when it comes out.

Slooooowwwww and boring. The tired plot was too easy to figure out and has been repeated by many other movies. It was just too long. I was ready to leave after the first hour. Took forever to get to anything even remotely interesting. The scense were more reminiscent of a Boris Karloff movie. And .. if this is New England ... particularly Boston Harbor Islands ... I would say that is a real stretch. I'm not aware of any area in and around Boston with that kind of landscape. Save you're time and money.

I thought it was great but I think that about EVERY Scorcese movie! Leo was awesome and so was Mark Ruffalo. I know the critics weren't that thrilled with it but I thought it was riveting & exciting. Coming out of the theater some said they predicted the end well, I never saw it coming. And if you DID predict it? How they got there was really cool. It was very true to the book, which you don't see that often. I HAVE to see it again, and if you saw it, you'll understand why.

From the trailers I expected a quasi horror film and only went half-heartedly. A total surprise!
From the dark music foreshadowing doom, and the Alfred Hitchcock/Orson Welles camera angles and shadows, to the brilliant performances, this is a film that takes you on the twists and turns of a journey that has you shaking your head when it's over. I'm still not sure who to believe in this deep dark mystery. It's not so much a "whodunnit" as it is a "who'sdoingit".
It has award after award all over it.
Scorsese and DiCaprio have done it again...only better. The entire cast is terrific, especially Kingsley and Von Sydow.
My only criticsm is the trailer does the film injustice by portraying it as a scarey horror flick.

This movie was not what I was expecting at all. It wasn't really scary, but quite disturbing. It is a pretty accurate description of how those with mental disorders were treated in this country ot long ago.

The movie was way different than I expected. Two hours went by fast. There were so many twists and turns. You left the movie still thinking about everything that went on. Reminded me of how Sixth Sense went. I am still thinking about everything that went on. I would suggest that you go see it.

Beautiful scenery and cinamtography. Thought Lenardo did a very good job with this complex script. The drifting from reality to delusions was a bit confusing, but the ending seemed to paste everthing together. This is a movie one needs to watch twice to actually understand.

Very slow movie. My father fell asleep during it, my husband kept asking how much longer it had till the end and I couldn't get into it. Yes there is a twist at the end but my husband and I had figured it out half way through the movie. I won't watch it again.
