Shutter Island is a very watchable movie, however, if you're expecting a thriller with a real unexpected twist re---The Sixth Sense or A Beautiful Mind, you wil be disappointed. The major roles are very well acted, and the cinematography is great, but the plot is not a winner.

the movie had a different story line from what i thought on the previews. Sometimes that difference is good, but this time it was boring. I could hear comments in the theater about how confused some people were. Better rent this one.

Please don't waste your money on this movie. It will be 2 hours of your life you cannot get back. It's predictable from the beginning, has 1 5 second action scene at the very end. If you don't like someone, recommend they see this.

Was hoping this was as compelling as The Departed and others that Marty and Leo have done, but we were disappointed. The story was disjointed and the creepy factor outweighed the suspense we anticipated. It had some great "Hitchcockian" elements, especially camera angles and lighting, but it was clearly overkill on the green screen and CGI usage.
Ben Kingsley gave the best performance. Leonardo was very inconsistent in his "Boston" accent, seemed like he'd forget he was in character in some parts. External and internal shots of the location buildings were excellent, though.

I must admit that with 3 months of hype, I was slightly disappointed. It wasn't as much of a thriller/scary as I thought it would be, based on the previews. My boyfriend loved it but figured out what was going on in the very beginning (which sort of spoiled it for me). Overall though, a pretty good flick.

This movie was really great. It seriously kept you guessing up until the very end of the movie. As soon as you thought you knew what was happening, something else happened to make that not true. I would definitely recommend this movie. The only thing is, if your not one of those people who likes to go and actually sit down and listen to the whole movie and not talk through it, don't go see this then because you will never understand it. Everybody else, go and see this movie. You won't be disapointed.

Previews and trailers portray this as a scary movie. It isn't scary. But it is suspenseful and pretty darn good. The characters keeps you guessing who we should believe and the story turns several times during the movie. Well done and enjoyable. I don't know why they decided to keep the trailers this way... this movie is better than that. Unfortunately the mis-leading may backfire and disappoint people who expect horror. If you like the Sixth Sense and Momento you should go.

Good acting from Leonardo DiCaprio & Mark Ruffalo, as well as great cinematography throughout the film. However, the movie didn't live-up to the hype: it was confusing, with a jarring ending. Perhaps a second viewing would make more sense, but I'll wait until it's released on DVD to view again.

I'm not just saying this because I'm a big fan of Leo's work, but the movie was amazing! There was never a dull moment and the 2hrs 18min. flew by. The twist is great, and I really would like to read the book after seeing the movie. I give it a million thumbs up - suspenseful, thrilling, emotional and SUPERBLY acted.

I normally don't like horror films, but this one is more a suspense than a gory slasher films. There are gruesome scenes, but they leave much to the imagination. The cinematic style reminds me of the Hitchcock films. The plot line reminds me of The 6th Sense, in that the ending reframes the whole movie. My wife and I both enjoyed it.

Very well done film. Typically the viewer can get some sort of fell of when a story has a twist in the story line but I honestly didn't see it coming. The story line flowed very well and this movie really does absorb your attention. Go see it... Its a good one.

Very well-crafted and engaging throughout. Scorcese's style pulls you in and keeps you guessing until the very end. Great performances, striking images, haunting soundtrack.... a movie you'll want to see a second time! (I know I do!)
I do think the trailers were misleading, and judging from the reactions after the film -- particularly from teens -- I think many were expecting a Saw-style horrorfest instead of a thought-provoking suspense thriller.
But if you're expecting a solid cinematic experience from some of the industry's top players, you won't be disappointed.

Shutter Island dies from a weak, nonsensical story. From the opening frames, it's obvious there's a gimmick to the story and the film plods along through pointless paranoia-inducing scenes until it reveals what's really going on. And unfortunately, what's really going on isn't vaguely interesting to begin with. Scorsese indulges his talent for grandiose imagery, but completely bogs down in his attempt to bring meaning to a completely forgettable story.

I read the book twice, and it was amazing. I definitely didn't think the movie could live up to the book. I was very pleasantly surprised, I gotta tell ya. The movie was everything I hoped it would be. Considering it was Scorsese and Leo, I can't imagine why I'd have thought otherwise.
