This is more of an old-school type movie. It's a slow-burning psychological thriller that gives you more questions than answers for a good part, but it all pays off spectacularly. One of the moodiest and most atmospheric movies I've seen in a long time, this is Marty's tribute to Hitchcock and particularly the flawed "Spellbound." Go see it immediately, the first truly adult and worthwhile film out this year. You can't go wrong - the audience I saw it with was quiet throughout and even clapped a bit at the end. A crowd pleaser and a film for serious cinema lovers.

Another Martin Scorcese mastepiece. Leonardo DiCaprio was excellent as always. The story had so many twist and as Martin always does, makes you think you got it all figured out till the end when bam it hits you with somthing you never seen coming.

I was looking forward to seeing this film, but halfway through, I knew what was going to happen and ended up nodding out, as did the gentleman sitting next to me. The "twist" in this one has been done before and it's been done better... like in "The Sixth Sense". It seems that Hollywood has indeed run out of original concepts.

The plot was excellent, but the movie seemed to drag before seeing anything truly interesting. A great acting job by DiCaprio. Also, the trailer for the movie seemed a bit deceiving.

Scorsese does it again! The plot surpassed what I expected. I recommend to see it before people start talking and giving bits and pieces away. I'm glad my son told me not to read the reviews first.

I went into this movie expecting to love it. I love Scorsese and I love mystery/psychological thriller films. The acting was superb, the imagery was awesome, but the story was way way predictable. I kept hoping for the "twist" that was basically given away within the first half, would twist another way and blow my mind. It was really frustrating to know what was going on the whole time, and feel cheated by the story. I just wasn't surprised at all. To compare it to the twist in 6th sense is ridiculous. The twist in this story is implied right off the bat. I will watch it again. Now that I know that my suspicion is correct, I can just sit back and enjoy the story.

Martin Scorsese never disappoints. Even the accompanying music is spellbinding. Leonardo really brings his best work. The movie has a great story and you can rarely guess the next move. You may be scratching head at the end, it's great!

Scorsese does it again with excellence. Shutter Island is a great film reminiscent of Hitchcock and Rod Serling genius. I won't give the story's amazing plot twist away. Let's just say it's worth the 2 hour and 18 minute ride. Leo's acting is impeccable as always. Such a great choice for the story. Also kudos to Mark Ruffalo for superior supporting magic. Ben Kingsley is such a smooth character as the head of the Asylum. Aside from strong story and and incredible A list of actors, the cinematography was amazing and haunting at the same time through the rain and dreariness of the Island. I give it 5 stars. A must see - at least twice!

What a great movie! Leo Dicaprio reveals his true talent as an actor! The movie pulls you into the story before you realize it; doesn't feel like you've spent 2 hours and 18 minutes watching. I really felt sorry for Leo's character throughout the movie, as you could see the struggle he had with the death of his wife. What a shocker when you find out what truly happened, not to mention the truly mind bending turns the film takes. This film has a great opportunity for a sequel. I would highly recommend taking the time to go see it in the theatre!

I was very dissapointed that the movie seemingly had nothing to do with the very misleading previews. My family was very excited about seeing what we thought would be a high-class supernatural themed thriller. The movie itself was slow paced, but interesting in spots. It definitely has a unique style, but I couldn't help but feel cheated thruought. Whoever made the decision on their advertising "spin" should be canned. Ever hear of truth in advertising?

I am still a little confused about this movie. It wasn't the thriller I thought it was going to be according to the trailer. There was a definite twist to the movie. But the ending lacked something. When it ended, I just sat there going, huh? I guess this is one I will need to watch again.(on DVD) I would give it 3 out of 5 stars, maybe even 2.5. Just wasn't the nail bitter I thought it was going to be.

I thought this movie was great! It was suspenseful, well thought out, and not as scary as the previews portrayed it to be. I usually fall asleep in movies, and this kept my interest for the entire 2 hours and 20 minutes!
Leonardo DiCaprio and Mark Ruffalo are both great in this film.
A few editing gaps but nothing that detracts from the overall film.
