This guy can do no wrong as far as I'm concerned. I don't think I've ever seen him not put 110% into a role, and this one is no exception. The movie grabs your interest from the beginning and doesn't let you go. Some of the user reviews are comparing it to The Sixth Sense, and I see the similarity, but this is a totally different movie. Ben Kingsley is great, with an excellent supporting cast. This movie explores mental illness and the (mis)treatment of it in the 1950's. It was well worth the time.

Great movie - my husband became caught up in trying to anticipate the twist - I just became caught up in where the movie was taking me minute-by-minute. DiCaprio and supporting cast are excellent. The big screen does justice to the setting of Shutter Island. Don't wait - see this one at the theatre.

... is a very worthwhile movie. It's beautifully shot and features one great performance after another. It managed to keep me fully engaged from start to end which is commendable since I was on a date with a girl I really like. If given one word I'd describe it as "nightmarish", it has it's own logic and parts of it are very grotesque but it sucks you in entirely and holds you there.

This trailers and ads for this movie lead one to believe it's a supernatural/paranormal-based thriller. It's not - it's a study in insanity.
If I knew that before sitting down to watch the movie, the suprise twist in at the end would not have been as disappointing.

3/4ths of the way into it the director did a great job with the story line and the plot as well as setting and special effects. The problem I had was the ending. And without ruining it for those of you who have not seen it, it came across as too easy of a way out for such a complex plot. I expected much more. Unlike Departed where you felt revenge was a perfect ending with the justified murder of one of the characters, or Casino when the whole enterprise came to a crashing end, such was not the case with this film, and when you see it you'll know what I am talking about. I hate scoring this film with one star but being honest with what I expected from this film I think it's appropriate.

The previews intrigued me as a possible paranormal movie. The start of the movie does not do anything to change this. As the movie progresses the plot moves along and the realization of the movie actually being a pyscho drama. Thought this was a great psychological thriller that was disturbing and suspenseful. Leonardo DiCaprio was amazing, as usual. Scorsese did a great job. It was Scorsese in look, feel and sound. Story was one you could not sink your teeth in.
Kept interested only because the film looked good- Leo was very good, supporting cast excellent. But overall story was just thin. The audience was jumpy from the start, giving me the impression that the trailers helped set the tone before you even arrived at the theater. I was ready to be scared and anxious, but I frankly was bored. Not a bad film just not as good as expected.
