Enjoyed this movie a lot. It really kept you thinking and the length of the movie flew by--no dragging here. Twist wasn't really unexpected, if you'd been paying attention throughout the flick but I'd say the very ending even left the best of us guessing...

I enjoyed the plot of the movie; it kept you guessing and had some nice twists. Cinematically, it was shot beautifully, especially the more dramatic scenes. I don't normally go to movies with Leonardo in them, but I was very pleased with his performance, as that of Ben Kingsley. And Max Von Sydow was great to see! All in all, well worth my money and I will recommend it to others.

Can you spell O-S-C-A-R? Brilliant captivating, suspeseful and eery as only Scorsese can produce. DiCaprio performs outstandingly, but the support of Kingsley connects the talents of the entire cast. Then again, maybe I really din't see it and only imagined the film (sic).

Really like the fact that the trailers make this movie out to be a horror flick but is actually a thriller of sorts. The twist in it really threw me. I wasn't expecting the outcome. Still, not as good as "The Book of Eli", but good all the same.

The professional reviews indicated that this would be quite scary, but I didn't find it so. It was actually rather cerebral, and the ending was somewhat predictable. That being said, it was very engaging, and if you like your creep-outs on an intellectual level, then you'll certainly enjoy this movie. Highly recommended for those who like the lines between reality and psychosis rather blurred.

The plot is pretty predictable and there's a bit of a lull about 2/3rds through the film. These mild setbacks are trumped by fantastic acting, engaging cinematography, and suspenseful moments that will keep you on the edge of your seat. Definitely worth a watch.

I would safely give this movie 4 1/2 stars.
Shutter Island was a well crafted psychological thriller which showcased the talents of its excellent cast and whose atmospheric cinematography and locations were almost equal players in the proceedings.
With its many twists and turns and the guidance of old hand Martin Scorsese, it keeps you guessing until the end, although the many clues throughout make you go back and say "aha....I should have seen that coming."
The lead roles as well as the supporting cast were top notch. If you like thrillers, you'll enjoy this movie.

I thought the plot was good. The disturbing story kept you guessing, but I thought this was supposed to be a scary movie. It really wasn't, so I was a little disappointed in that aspect, but overall, I liked the movie. As long as your going with the perception that this is a psycological thriller and not a scary jump out and get ya movie, then I think you'll like it. Worth seeing and of course Leo's acting is flawless.

Movie was fantastic! Kept you second guessing yourself the entire movie! There were actually times in the movie you began to think you were going crazy hahahahahah! This movie was fantastic and I would recommend it to anyone! Scorsese DOES IT AGAIN!! BRAVO

Became bored 75% of the way through. Character obviously did not make sense and the scene switching was done to produce mystery when none really existed. Knew the character was delusional but which delusion was the only intrigue. Waited until the end to find out what the delusion was but overall poorly written. Sad to see these great actors in a really bad film.

The story is so convuluted and unbelievable that I just did not care as they attempted make the story make sense. Didn't buy any of it.
One of the main characters at the start of the movie says he's from Seattle, WA, but has a Boston accent. That gave me a clue as to how much sense the rest of the movie was going to make.

I was going in the hope of seeing a scary movie and there was nothing scary about it. The preview is very misleading.
It did however turn out to be a good suspense movie with a twist at the end.

First. I need to state that mine is not a complete review because i left after 50 minutes, as the flick was so bad. And my sister left about 10 minutes after I did.
That said, for the 50 minutes I did see, I was very disappointed. I found the film confusing and hard to follow. DeCaprio's character drops 3 or 4 names trying to solve a mystery, and I couldn't connect how these related to the story and quickly became lost. A huge waste of my time.

Problems:
From time to time the dialogues felt a little strained. There were also certain shots that felt a little awkward in conjunction with the choice of editing. I must admit I've never seen a Scorsese movie with any editing problems. this was definitely the first. Editing in Scorsese movies are nearly flawless. But, altogether this was definitely one of the best movies I've seen this year.

The track record of Scorsese/DiCaprio collaborations doesn't measure up for this film. First, the run time is too long for this dreary psych fest. Second, the story has many holes where I wondered why the character did or didn't "do" something ... We're led down a seemingly terminal road that goes 'round and 'round so long that I didn't care much what the ending would reveal. Interesting final twist and certailnly leaves questions about mental health care, but I was hoping for something more robust.

This was a complete waste of time and money. Most of the movie was just boring. I also figured it out 1/4 of the way into it. I was really looking forward to seeing it, too! My daughter, age 10 1/2, had NO idea what was going on, and I doubt she was the only one (and I'm including adults)! What a disappointment.

I thought the movie was great. I had read ahead that it wasn't going to be a horror film and was glad. I found myself thinking back to the movie again afterwards...the twist was somewhat reminiscent of Beautiful Mind and Sixth Sense. I recommend this movie!! Leo is such a great actor too!!

Starts out okay, really boring in the center, then very diappointing twist in the end. This movie is a let down. The trailers make you think it will be a scary but good movie. It could have been better if it wasn't so contrived. Decaprio was very good. But the story line was so so. Something was missing in the story. Some parts made no sense and could have been eliminated without affecting the plot. I was disappointed. The ending was not interesting. It might make an okay dvd.

Mood, atmosphere, cinematography and acting are all top-notch in this psychological suspense thriller! Scorsese applies his deft touch and considerable skills and presents us with an entertaining, dark tale of obsession and madness. While I have never read the book .... this movie version's only weak spot comes in the way it often "telegraphs its punches" which dilutes the impact in the second half and the third act. DiCaprio, Kingsley, Ruffalo and the rest of the cast do such a great job with their characters we remain enthralled to watch what we know is coming. It's winter - so put on your "padded jacket" and run to your nearest sanitarium .... I mean theater .... to catch this one. Listen to "that voice in your head!" See it!
