I sort of enjoyed the movie, but I definitely don't feel that it was worth paying $11.50 to see. The storyline and feel of the movie is from the '80s with some mixed use of CGI. Some of the CGI is good, some pretty bad, but the bottom line is that the storyline doesn't overcome the movie's short commings. It also fails to suspend your disbelief on more points than it succeeds. I gave it a 3 for trying, but a 2 may be more accurate.

My 9 year old son and I read the Lightening Thief together and he was a huge fan. The original story is a coming of age saga akin to Harry Potter. I was sorry to see that they aged the characters and the story was more geared toward a 14 year old. It seems that the movie would have appealed more to the twilight audience then the 9 year old audience that the books were intended for. Nevertheless, the special effects and the opportunity to see the modern day Greek mythology on the big screen was delightful. As an adult, I enjoyed the movie more then my son who critiqued many of the differences from the book.

I was entertained most of the time, but it did get slow after the first hour. I would recommend it because had the theater I went to been more comfortable I might have enjoyed it more. Overall, my family thought the film was good.

I took my 12 year old son to this movie. i read the books, buut he did not read this one yet. (he read #3.). Loved the mythology but was disappointed that they left out major characters (Clarisse, Eres) and made it more Harry Potter-esque witht the map and stuff. On its own however it was good, the effects rocked and he enjoyed it -- which is all that matters.

I saw this movie with my son, and we both liked it very much. It was full of action, surprise, and had a good story line. I would caution very young viewers...there are some parts that may be scary for the very young ones.
We have not read any of the books, and so we were able to take the movie at face value and enjoy it. But, the movie has inspired us to want to read the book.
This is a great family movie that I'd recommend to anyone. It's really nice to have an entertaining movie to take the kids to and know there will not be any parts that are inappropriate. THANK YOU MOVIE MAKERS!

My son read this book in Language Arts class. He liked it so much, he read the entire series. He has been anxiously awaiting the release of the movie. While he thoroughly enjoyed it, he said it was very different from the book. I understand that movie makers use creative license when adapting books, but it would help if they were a little more true to the storyline.

While I was all excited after seeing the previews before watching Avatar, I made the fatal mistake of reading the book first. omg was there a lot of material they left out or changed! The movie, in and of itself, is a solid foundation if they decide to create the rest of the books into movies, but be warned.....if you read the book, be prepared to be disappointed. I will not go through the list of some of my favorite sequences in the book that were left out (or changed altogether).

Great clean movie. It still had love and adventure without graphic language. I love the mythology and my kids (8 & 5) REALLY stayed in tune with it. My oldest daughter just keeps on asking questions about all the characters...I would see it again and plan to purchase it when it comes out

Friends and I brought our kids, 8 and 9 to see Percy Jackson. We had all read the first book before the movie, and were so excited to see it!
While, as some reviewers have already said, some parts of the book were left out, on the whole we loved the movie and can't wait to see the next one!
On a side note, this series actually has my 9 year old discussing Greek Gods and myths with familiarity!

I think this movie was terrible. It didnt even follow the books added stuff and took stuff from the other books. Plus, the actors didn't even look 12 and Annabeth was all wrong. Over all they should have had someone else direct it or not have made it at all

This movie did not meet my expectations.
Visuals were nice. The lightning bolt was cooler than in the books.
Acting, ok. Dialogue, not so much. Key characters like Clarisse and Dionysus were missing.
The plot was mixed with pieces from later books. Many changes were unnecessary. The prophecy was ignored; the Big 3 had no ban on children. All the gods were forbidden from talking to their kids. This puts all the blame for the lack of contact on Zeus alone. Not having unclaimed kids in Hermes cabin (and Percy going directly to Poseidon's cabin) took away angst.
Overall it was worth seeing, and I will get it on DVD. I hope that future movies will be made, sticking to the great storyline Rick Riordan crafted!

I found this movie to be fun and exciting. It is reminiscient of the old "Clash of the Titans" story line and "Harry Potter" action. I felt this was the beginning of a new fantasy genre. I sincerely hope the writer/producer/studios consider creating sequels. While some plots where inconsistant with greek mythological history such as Medusa being alive, the drama and action was great.

I had high expectations for this movie. After reading all of the books I was very excited to see how they were going to translate it to the big screen. Unfortunately, my expectations were not met by any means. The fact that they left out some of my favorite (and very crucial) parts of the book really upset me. What happened to the sisters of fate on the bus? What about the fight with ares at the end? They completely twisted the story and I'm not sure how they are going to be able to follow the other books now that they have butchered this one. When this movie is not compared to the book, I think it is a fairly good movie filled with sarcasm and some cool special effects.

While not may adults (I'm 49) have read the books I have and the movie did a great job staying with the books. I recommend this movie to those who liked the Harry Potter movies and have some minor interest in the Greek gods.

i took my 3 kids to see this; they're ages 14, 11 and 9. we all enjoyed it though it bothered us all that the plot veered far away from the book. special effects were really cool but acting was just so-so. knowing that the movie was going to be different from the book, i went with little expectations and just enjoyed the fun.

I haven't seen Harry Potter movies....any of them, so I guess that is what this movie is most related to. It also steals a page from the original "Clash of the Titans", I'm sure of which none of the current moviegoers will have seen, since it was made so long ago. A skinny nerd can be a hero through the use of CGI....A lot of CGI. OK story. I guess I just miss the movies when a hero looks and acts like a hero, instead of a brat with a overinflated sense of self entitlement.
No, I do not recommend this movie.

This movie is good for all ages. My boyfriend (thirty one) and I (twenty five) both enjoyed it very much. It was interesting and easy to follow. Even after two hours of sitting there it felt like just minutes had gone by. The special effects were great too. The way the animals were combined with humans was better than anything we've seen before. Also the film crew and cast couldn't have done any better. The writer, producer and director must have thought it was the best show they had ever been a part of.
