The film was directed by the same director as the first two Harry Potter films....that's where the greatness stops. The film is great for children, we could have waited for this to make it to TV. I felt the story tried to tell too much, in too little time, forcing everything to rush. Some things were cute and some were hokey. Take your kid if they want to go.

I took my 11yr old Twin boys to see this movie being that I recently purchased the books for them. I must say it was Great Movie. I was pleasantly surprised and the kids were really enjoying it too. I hope that more Percy Jackson movies will be made in the future. The boys and I are now official fans!

Took my 17 yr old and 9 yr old to this movie. Its overall a good movie, though the plot could have been a little deeper.
Some viewers missed the ending~too long of a delay from cut off of movie to the ending snippet.

My kids and I read the book and were excited to see the movie. The movie omitted most of the better scenes from the book like the water park and St. Louis. Those were probably the more expensive ones to create but would've made the movie fun. The actors weren't true to the characters either: Percy was 6 yrs too old and Anabeth was supposed to be blonde and cerebral. Clarisse and Ares never appeared and had livened up the book. The studio saved dough but lost out on making a memorable movie.

I too my 7 and 10 yr olds to see this as they'd read the books and really enjoyed them. They both thought the movie really strayed from the book and wasn't all that great. Before we went and I saw who was directing it, I wasn't impressed. He did several of the Harry Potter movies; showing the constant cheesy close up smiles and no depth in the characters. I wasn't disappointed in my thoughts. It was exactly the same as the Harry Potter movies he did. I'm hoping with the next few books (if they make movies of them) they change directors.

I brought my 10 year old nephew to this movie. He and I completely enjoyed it. The previews shown on television did not do the movie justice. I found the movie to be very refreshing as far as morality goes, which is something movies and real life do not celebrate today.

if you have read all of the Percy Jackson books you will be sorely disappointed. like most movies cast off a book it had left out vital information and gapes. Based off of what i saw they couldn't possibly do a second third forth or fifth book because the main underlying in the first book was left out which was Kronos the father of the gods who was the real colprite behind stealing the lightning bolt. Without this tie i do not see how they could possibly finish the series in motion pictures. The Guts, to say, have been left behind, thus the master piece of this imaginative story was lost in translation.

I took my daughter (10) and son(14) to Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief. Both have read the series and did notice that many details were missing; however, they did enjoy the movie and would like to see more.
The movie, itself, was entertaining and suspenseful. If positioned better - with more marketing exposure - I think they could chase the Harry Potter series' success. Hopefully, we'll see the next books turned into movies.

A good movie, fairly true to the book (books are great by the way). While the story revolves around Percy, there are good female role models in the story too -- making it entertaining for both boys and girls. My son (11) says, "Throughout the movie, after every exciting part, there would be a moment of still action, then a sudden monster or something swoops down and attacks them, making the movie a real enjoyable action movie."

And, actually, this was a pretty good flick. I've not read the book it was based on but the movie still made for a fun ride. Yes, it suffers in comparison to the Potter films as this one was clearly ushed and had a lot in it that was obviously skipped over or compressed for the sake of getting it on screen.
Still though, the film was well done, had a solid cast, and was fun to watch. Not grand or fantastic but not bad either.

I took my class to see this movie. They are 10-14 years old. We have been studying the Olympians. The class thoroughly enjoyed it. I was happy to see that they infused it with the same stories that we have been reading. There is a lot of action to keep the kids entertained. All in all a good movie for this age group.

I have not read the books myself but my 14 and 12 year old daughters have. I took my whole family to see the movie, including my mother and father and overall we really enjoyed it. It was quite entertaining throughout. But listening to my daughters afterward about how very different it was from the books is disappointing. I understand creative license but why didn't they follow the book more closely? How hard would it have been to cast a blonde Anna Beth, and more? It's as if they cared nothing about the already existing fans of the series.

Im glad I dont listen to critics cause this movie is was nowhere near as bad as they say. I say anything that will make my adhd 9 year old sit still for 2 hours is alhright by me. Its a good action movie for kids that doesnt take itself to seriously and remains entertaining throughout. I enjoyed it, 4 stars.

Not terribly entertaining or coherent, MAJOR stuff was left out or changed from the books, which WERE reasonably entertaining; I kept wondering how they'll do the sequels if they leave it all out. I took my two boys (4 & 8) Not knowing if my 4yr old would stay sitting down but even he loved the movie. He did get scared a few time just cause of the creatures on there but other then that we loved it. I would see it again and so would my kids.

I took my 2 boys(7 & 9 yrs old) to see this movie not knowing if my younger one would be scared. Both my boys and myself really enjoyed this adventure. We have not read any of the series yet, but are planning on reading them now. There are a few scary characters. If the kids can handle the trailer then the can handle the movie.

I brought 11 children ages 8-10 to this movie along with three moms. We all thought the movie was great (7 children and 1 mom read the book). I think most people are missing the point by comparing it to Harry Potter. The intent of the author of this book was to make Greek Mythology interesting for all along with illustrating the great lessons that Greek Mythology teaches. Yes, we were disappointed that the movie was not exactly like the book but books are rarely depicted well in movie format so, for us, it was expected. If you love Greek Mythology or want to get your kids interested in its great history, then read the books and see the movie - ITS FUN!

The kids loved it. They had read the book and really, really liked the action of the movie. Also, enjoyed seeing how some of the monsters were done since they had different pictures of them. I also really liked the movie and I did not read the book. As an adult, I thought it was a little predicitable but I also enjoyed the action of the film.
